From Spice Rack to Book Display Vom Gewürzbord zum Bücherregal

Ich bin total glücklich über dieses gelungene Projekt. Vom ersten Moment als ich es HIER gesehen habe, wollte ich es haben. 

I am so happy about this successful project. From the first moment I saw it HERE I wanted to have it.

Die Regale sind von IKEA und da dieser auf dem Arbeitsweg meines Mannes liegt, musste er gleich abends vorbei fahren, um mir welche zu besorgen.

The racks are from IKEA which is on the way to my husbands office, so he has to stop by there and buy some.

Ich wollte meine Kreativbücher schön zur Geltung bringen, schwieriger war es einen Platz zu finden. Schließlich wurde ich im Teppenhaus fündig (altes Haus, gigantisches Stiegenhaus).

I wanted to display my creative books but it was difficult to find a place. Finally, I decided to do it on the stairs (old house, giant staircase).

Dann braucht man noch einen lieben Mann, der die Schwerarbeit abnimmt.

Then you need a lovely husband who makes the heavy work.

Ich habe die Regale nicht bemalt, da sie so naturbelassen auch gut passen.

I didn't paint the shelves because the natural look fits very well.

Ich bin total glücklich, dass ich meine Fachliteratur jetzt an einem Platz habe und im Vorbeigehen mal schmökere oder ein Buch mit runter nehme.

I'm really happy that I now have my specialist literature at one place and everytime I walk past I browse or take a book downstairs with me.

Too Good For The Compost Zu schön für den Kompost

Was ist das?

Als ich vor einiger Zeit mein Lavendelbeet durchjätete, fand ich diese Pflanze dazwischen. Sie ist einfach zu schön zum Ausreißen. Kennt jemand den Namen dieser Blume?

What is it?

When I was weeding my lavenderbed some time ago I found this plant in between. It is simply too beautiful to be torn out. Does anyone know the name of this flower?

My Current Projects - Meine aktuellen Projekte

Bin gerade dabei ein weiteres Shirt (Imke) für meine Kleine zu nähen. Spannend!

Just sewing another shirt for my girlie. Exciting!

Und das hier wird auch was ganz tolles, auch wenn mein Mann dabei die Hauptarbeit macht. Ich berichte in den nächsten Tagen mehr darüber.

And this is also a very lovely project, even if my husband makes up most of the work. I will report more about it in the next days.

Photo Deco

Das Spielhaus meiner Kleinen ist im Garten vom Haus aus nicht zu sehen und daher fühlt sie sich dort manchmal etwas einsam. Also haben wir Fotos ausgesucht (von Eltern, Hund, Katze und bester Freundin), sind zum nächsten Drogeriemarkt gegangen und haben sie dort gleich ausgedruckt. 

The playhouse of my little one in the garden is not visible from the house and therefore she feels a bit lonely there sometimes. So we selected photos (of parents, pets and best friend), went to the nearest drugstore and havethem printed out there immediately.

Dann habe ich ein paar Overheadfolien und Klarsichthüllen genommen und mit Stoff und Schrägband die Folien zusammengenäht und abgeteilt.

Then I took a few overhead transparencies and plastic covers and sewed them together with fabric and bias tape and made some section for the pictures.

Ich habe den selben Stoff genommen wie für die Wimpelkette, die auch schon im Häuschen hängt.

I used the same fabric as for the bunting which also already hang in the hut.

Fertig! Ich habe die Fotos einfach eingenäht, man kann das Teil aber sicher auch so konzipieren, dass man eine Öffnung lässt. Aber falls wir mal die Fotos wechseln, dann schneide ich einen Schlitz mit einem Teppichmesser und nähe das nachher wieder zu. Ratzfatz, ohne viel Aufwand.

Done! I sewed the photos in but you can design some openings. If we change the pictures then I cut a slit with a razor knife and sew it together again. Simple, without much fuss.

Die Spielhütte ist innen ziemlich shabby chic, aber das wird dieses Jahr auch nicht mehr geändert. Oder vielleicht auch nie.

The playhouse is pretty shabby chic inside but that won’t be changed this year any more or maybe never.

Summertime

Heute ist es so richtig heiß! Ich hätte fast vergessen wie das ist, wenn die Luft flimmert und man lieber im Haus bleibt. Aber wir haben im Garten einen Easy Pool stehen, der sich auch an den wenigen sonnigen Tagen auszahlt. Unseren ersten Easy Pool haben wir für 50 Euro gekauft und hielt 4 Jahre. Das ist jetzt der zweite und den haben wir auch schon 2 Jahre, trotz Hund und Katze hat der Ring oben bis jetzt nur 2 Flicken. Heute hat das Wasser 28°C und wenn es weiterhin so heiß ist, wird es noch wärmer. Es ist herrlich, wenn man ewig planschen kann, ohne dass einem kalt wird. Ich drapiere zwei Schwimmnudeln immer so um mich herum, dass ich im Wasser schwebe. Sobald die Wassertemperatur aber 30°C erreicht, hänge ich den Gartenschlauch rein, der 14 Grad kühles Brunnenwasser reinpumpt und wieder etwas abkühlt. Da meine Kleine viel herumspritzt, muss ich sowieso von Zeit zu Zeit auffüllen. So und jetzt tauche ich wieder unter!

Today it is really hot! I almost forgot what it's like when the air shimmers and you prefer to remain in the house. But in the garden we have an Easy Pool that pays off well on the few sunny days. Our first easy pool we bought for 70$ and last for 4 years. This is now the second pool and we have it since 2 years, in spite of dog and cat the ring only has two patches. Today the water is 82F and if it is still hot, it will be even warmer. It is wonderful when you can splash around forever without getting cold. I drape our two swim noodles around me that I'm floating in the water. Once the water temperature reaches 86F I hang the garden hose in the pool that is pumping pure cool (57F) spring water in and cool down the water a little. Since my little one is splashing around a lot, I have to fill up anyway from time to time. So and now I am ducking and enjoying this summerday!

Terrific Trifle - Toller Trifle

Mein lieber Mann hatte am Wochenende Geburtstag. Und es gab da schon lange etwas, das ich ausprobieren wollte, weil es einfach so toll ausschaut. Ein Trifle! Das ist ein Dessert ursprünglich aus England. 

My dear husband had birthday on the weekend. And there was something that I wanted to try for a long time, because it just looks so great. A trifle! This is a dessert originally from England.

Normalerweise verwendet man Kuchenreste. Das ist auch etwas, das ich nicht verstehe: Wer hat Kuchenreste? Also bei uns bleibt nie was übrig. Ich habe eine Biskuitroulade gemacht und in Scheiben geschnitten. Dann schichtet man den Kuchen mit Früchten, Vanillepudding und Mascarponecreme (Mascarpone, Zucker, Schlagsahne) abwechselnd in eine Glasschüssel.

Normally there are used cake leftovers. That's something I do not understand: Who has cake leftovers? Well, we don’t. I've done a Swiss roll and cut into slices. Then layer the cake with fruits, custard and mascarpone cream (mascarpone, sugar and sweet cream) alternately into a glass bowl.

Der Fantasie sind bei einem Trifle keine Grenzen gesetzt. Ich habe auch noch Kekse und Konfekt aus der Süßigkeitenlade reingegeben. Das Ganze dann längere Zeit in den Kühlschrank geben, am besten über Nacht. Schmeckt nach ein paar Tagen noch besser. Man kann den Trifle natürlich auch erwachsenentauglich machen, indem man Baileys oder Eierlikör oder sonstiges reinkippt.

Ich brauche wohl nicht zu erwähnen, dass dieses Dessert einfach himmlisch schmeckt.

The sky is the limit. I have also put in biscuits and sweets from the candy drawer. Give the whole thing some time in the refrigerator, preferably overnight. It tastes even better after a few days. One can of course also make the Trifle fit for adults by adding some liqueur. Needless to say that this dessert tastes heavenly.

From Hen Coop to Playhouse Vom Hühnerstall zum Spielhaus

Endlich kann ich auch mal eine Vorher/Nachher Geschichte zeigen. Und zwar unser großes Sommerprojekt! Unser Haus ist über 100 Jahre alt und eines der vielen Nebengebäude ist auch ein alter Hühnerstall, den wir nicht benutzten. Da aber gleich die Sandkiste daneben liegt, wollte ich den Stall schon immer einer Kindernutzung zuführen.

Finally I can show you a before/after story. Our big summer project! The house we live in is over 100 years old and one of the many outbuildings is an old chicken coop, we do not use. However, since the sandbox is next to it, I always wanted to make something for my girlie out of the coop.

Mein Mann schnitt eine Tür und ein Fenster aus und legte einen Estrich rein.

My husband cut out a door and a window and put in a clean floor.

Dann wurde das Häuschen nach Töchterleins Wunsch Lila und Rosa angemalt.

Then the house was painted pink and purple after the wish of our little daughter.

Reste der Terrassenüberdachung dienten als Fensterscheibe.

Remains of the terrace roof served as window glass.

Noch eine Tür dazu und fertig!

Natürlich dürfen ein paar Verhübschungen nicht fehlen.

Die Kleine und ich sind sehr stolz auf meinen Mann, dass er das so gut hinbekommen hat. Ich darf jetzt den Innenausbau in die Hand nehmen.

Mushrooms - Pilze

Wir waren im Wald Pilze sammeln. In Österreich ist aber der Terminus "Schwammerl suchen" am gebräuchlichsten. Also ab in das Wechselgebiet und rein in den Wald. Wir waren auf der Suche nach Eierschwammerln (Pfifferlinge) und die wollten erst mal gefunden werden. Das ist wie eine Schnitzeljagd ohne Hinweise. Sehr spannend, ich liebe es! Auf dem Bild seht ihr, das wir eine Menge Pilze fanden, zwar wunderschöne, aber nicht so genießbar ;) Meine Kleine zeigt auf eines der wenigen Eierschwammerl, die wir fanden. Aber auch einige Steinpilze (Herrenpilze) sprangen in unsere Tasche. Zu Hause gab es dann Geröstete Schwammerl mit Ei und Semmelknödel. Lecker!

We were collecting mushrooms in the forest. In Austria, however, the term "looking for mushrooms" is the most common. So off into the Wechsel area and into the woods. We were in search of chanterelles and they hid very well. It's like a scavenger hunt without clues. Very exciting, I love it! On the picture you can see, we found a lot of mushrooms, though beautiful but toxical :) My little one points to one of the few chanterelles we found. But even some edible boletus jumped into our bag. At home I made Roasted Chanterelle Mushrooms with bread dumplings. Yummy!

Ready To Wear - Fertig zum Anziehen

Ich hab's geschafft. Mein erstes Shirt ist genäht. Ging an sich ganz schnell, wenn ich mal die richtige Sticheinstellung für die Ovi gefunden hatte. Meine Kleine ist zwar sehr schlank, aber ich habe die Antonia doch größer zugeschnitten, soll ja die ganze Langarm-Saison passen.

I've done it. My first shirt is sewn. It was going very quickly if I had found the right spot for setting the serger. My little one is very slim, but I have tailored the shirt larger so it will fit the whole long-sleeve season.

Blackberries - Brombeeren

So wenig ich Himbeeren mag, so sehr liebe ich Brombeeren.

Keine Ahnung, warum das so ist.

As little as I like raspberries, so I love blackberries. No idea why.

Wir essen sie direkt vom Strauch, oder mit Joghurt verfeinert.

We eat them directly from the bush, or with yogurt.
