Today's Culinary Output

Unsere absolute Lieblingslasagne ist eine Kürbis-Lasagne mit Butternusskürbis. Zum Rindfleisch-Faschiertem (Hackfleisch vom Rind) wird einfach gewürfelter Butternusskürbis dazu gegeben und mit Tomatensauce weich gedünstet. Dann Lasagne zubereitet wie sonst auch. Butternusskürbis schmeckt leicht süßlich und ergibt mit Fleischsauce einen tollen Geschmack.

Our absolute favorite lasagna is butternut squash lasagna. Simply add diced butternut squash to minced beef (ground beef) and steam soft with tomato sauce. Then prepare lasagna as usual. Butternut squash tastes slightly sweet and is deliciously with meat sauce.

16 Wirbeltücher habe ich für unseren Turnverein genäht! Ich weiß nicht, ob man sie so nennt. Aber sie haben eine Schlaufe an einer Ecke und ein Gewicht an der anderen und dann kann man sie schön herumwirbeln, ohne dass die Tücher in sich zusammenfallen. Im Jänner findet als Jahresabschluss immer ein Schauturnen statt und alle Turngruppen führen eine Leistungsschau vor. Natürlich ist auch mein Mädel eine gute Turnerin und sie proben schon ein streng geheimes Programm.

In January there is a perfomance show and all groups of gymnasts perform their presentations. Of course, my girl's a good gymnast and she already rehearsing a top-secret program.

My New Flowerbed - Mein neues Blumenbeet

Mein Mann hat mir schon letztes Jahr ein neues Blumenbeet gebaut und ich habe mit Picasa ein Video dazu gebastelt. Das ging total einfach und schnell. Aufpassen muss man nur, dass man lizenzfreie Musik nimmt. HIER findet man einige Links dazu. 
Die dreieckige Form ergab sich dadurch, dass man rundherum mit dem Rasentraktor fahren können soll und auch noch unseren Anhänger an seinen Platz schieben kann. Die gusseisernen Gitter auf dem Beet waren früher im Geschäft des Vaters meines Mannes angebracht, gingen dann an den Onkel, dann an dessen Tochter nach München und fanden letztes Jahr wieder zurück zu meinem Mann nach Österreich. Ich wusste gleich, dass sie im Garten mit Rosen bewachsen toll aussehen müssten. Die Rose ist eine Kletterrose und heißt 'Raubritter', außerdem habe ich noch viele Tulpen in rosa gepflanzt und Allium und Astern in lila. Das Beet ist aus Lärchenholz vom Sägewerk, wie schon meine Hochbeete. Das Holz dunkelt nach und wird dann grau. Es gefällt mir total gut und wurde so, wie ich es mir vorgestellt habe und mein Mann hatte auch seinen Spaß es zu basteln.

My husband built ​​a new flowerbed for me last year and I've made a video with Picasa. That was totally easy and fast. You just have to pay attention to use royalty-free music. 
The triangular shape resulted from the fact that you can drive around with the lawn tractor and also our trailer can slide into place. The cast iron grate on the bed were formerly placed in the shop of my husband's father, then went to the uncle, then to his daughter to Munich and found last year back to my husband to Austria. I knew immediately that they would lokk great in the garden covered with roses. The rose is a climbing rose and is called 'Raubritter' (which means robber baron. Besides I've planted a lot of tulips in pink and Alluim and asters in purple. The bed is made ​​of larch wood from the sawmill, as my other raised beds. The wood darkens and turn gray. I totally love my flowerbed, it turned out just as I had imagined and my husband also had fun to build it.

Ich poste schnell mal den Oktober, bevor ich wieder vergesse. Wetter war OK, aber die Temperatur etwas zu kühl für einen 'goldenen Herbst'.

A Walk In The Park - Spaziergang im Park

In Wiener Neustadt gibt's die Militärakademie, gegründet von der österreichischen Kaiserin Maria Theresia. Unser Interesse galt heute aber dem anschließenden Akademiepark. Wir sind schon oft an der ihn umschließenden Mauer vorbeigefahren und haben uns immer gewundert, dass die Mauer kein Ende nimmt. Heute konnten wir uns bei strahlend blauem Himmel überzeugen wie riesig das Areal dieses Parks ist. Einen kleinen Teil haben wir erkundet und sind bis zum Pionierteich spaziert und auch drum herum. Wunderschön!

In Wiener Neustadt, there's the Military Academy, founded by Austrian Empress Maria Theresa. But today we were interested in the Academy Park, which is nearby the castle. We have often driven past the wall surrounding it and have always wondered that the wall has no end. Today we were able to convince us under brilliant blue sky how huge the area of this park is. We have explored a small part and walked up to the so called pioneer pond and walk around. Beautifully!

Operation Christmas Child - Weihnachten im Schuhkarton

So wie jedes Jahr möchte ich auch heute auf diese Aktion hinweisen. Bis 15. November kann man noch seinen Weihnachts-Schuhkarton für arme Kinder packen und abgeben. Mein selbstgemachter Beitrag dieses Jahr sind ein Bubenschal und ein Mädchen-Loop. Ich packe den Karton immer mit meinem Mädchen ein und immer ihrem Alter entsprechend, also diesmal für Kinder rund um 8 Jahre. 

Just like every year, I would like to refer to this campaign. Till Nov 15 (look up for the exact deadline) you can still pack your Xmas shoebox for poor children. My selfmade contribution this year are a boy scarf and a girl loop. I always pack the shoebox with my girlie with things according to her age, so this time for children around 8 years.

My Magnolia has Berries - Meine Magnolie hat Beeren

Seit etwa 10 Jahren haben wir unsere Magnolie im Garten und gestern fiel mir auf, dass sie Beeren hat. Das ist neu. Nachdem ich gegoogelt habe, weiß ich, dass das der Frucht- und Samenstand ist. Hübsch!

For about 10 years, we have our magnolia tree in the garden and yesterday I noticed that it has berries. That's new. After I googled, I know that these are fruit and seed. Pretty!

Sky Scarf 09-2013

Die Zeit rast! Ich bin im letzten Quartal angekommen. Jetzt kann ich es ja zugeben, als ich dieses Projekt begann, war ich mir nicht sicher, ob ich es auch zu Ende bringe. Vor allem so genau. Bis jetzt habe ich bei keinem einzigen Tag geschummelt. Wenn ich merke, dass ich keine Lust oder keine Zeit habe, den Schal auszupacken, dann mache ich mir eine kurze Notiz im Kalender, wie das Wetter ist. 

Time flies! I have arrived in the last quarter. Now I can admit it when I started this project, I was not sure if I will bring it to an end. Especially as accurate. Until now, I have not cheated in any single day. If I don't want to or have no time to knit a row, I make a short note in the calendar about the weather.

Grape Jelly - Weintrauben Gelee

Ich habe zwei Weinstöcke im Garten. Der eine hat Trauben, die ich mag, der andere hat leider etwas saure Trauben mit Kernen, die sich schlecht vom Fruchtfleisch lösen. Meistens habe ich diese Trauben den Vögeln überlassen. Bis ich vor ein paar Jahren von einer Bekannten Weintraubenmarmelade geschenkt bekam. Habe ich sofort ausprobiert und seitdem ist sie immer auf Vorrat im Haus. 

I have two vines in the garden. The one has grapes that I like, unfortunately the other has some sour grapes with big seeds. Mostly I leave these grapes to the birds. Until I got grape jam as a gift a few years ago from a friend. I tried once and since then it is always on stock in the house.

Door Stop - Türstopper

Unser Esszimmer brauchte schon lange einen Türstopper. Hinter der Tür zur Küche steht ein Schrank, der schon einige Dellen abbekam, wenn das Mädchen vergessen hatte, dass es im Haus nicht Laufen und Fangen spielen darf. Im Zuge der Renovierung bekam der Schrank einen neuen Anstrich und ich ein neues Projekt. Inspiration war mal wieder Poppy Treffrys Buch wie schon hier. 

Our dining room has long needed a doorstop. Behind the door to the kitchen is a cabinet that already getting some scratches when girlie had forgotten that it is not allowed to run and play catch in the house. During the renovation of the dining room the cabinet got a new coat of paint and I had a new project. Inspiration was again Poppy Treffrys book, as already here. 

Cabinet Knobs - Möbelknäufe

Unsere Esszimmerrenovierung hat wieder eine süße kleine Ergänzung gefunden. Diese wunderschönen Möbelknäufe (im original ganz zartgrün) haben ihren Platz an der neuen Kommode und am Schreibtisch gefunden. Beide Möbelstücke sind weiß, aber unterschiedlich gearbeitet und doch sehen sie mit den gleichen Knäufen wie Geschwister aus. 

Our dining room renovation has found a sweet little addition. These beautiful knobs (original color is pale green) have found their way to the new dresser and the desk. Both pieces of furniture are white, but worked differently, with the same knobs they look like siblings.

An Apple A Day Keeps The Doctor Away

Was macht man aber, wenn die Kinder den Apfel einfach nicht essen möchten. Aufpeppen! Mit einem Frischkäse-Dip. So schnell war der Apfel noch nie weg. 

Ich hab's so gemacht: 

• Frischkäse natur, 1 Packung (175g) 
• Brauner Zucker, 1 Esslöffel oder soviel man mag 
• Zimtpulver, 1 Prise oder soviel man mag 

Cremig rühren und losdippen! Lecker! 

But what to do when the kids just do not want to eat the apple. Jazz up! With a Brown Sugar Cinnamon Fruit Dip. So fast the apple was never eaten. Yummy!

Fabric Design - Textilgestaltung

Noch ein Nachtrag vom Sommer. Leider haben wir nur wenige Ferienprojekte zustande gebracht und dieses habe ich erst gestern fertig genäht. Aber Hitze wirkt total lähmend auf mich ;)
Ich habe mal sehr günstig eine Packung Stoffmalfarben gekauft und ein T-Shirt meines Mannes entwendet, eigentlich zwei (kein Mensch braucht 18 weiße Shirts). Das ist jetzt ein Nachthemd oder ein Spielkleidchen, oder was auch immer. Das Mädchen war beschäftigt und es hat Spaß gemacht.

Almost forgot to tell you about another summer project. Unfortunately, we realized only a few holiday projects and this I finished yesterday. But heat has a totally paralyzing effect on me ;)
I once bought a very cheap fabric painting set and I needed a T-shirt of my husband, actually two (no one needs 18 white shirts). Now this is a nightgown or a play dress, or whatever. Girlie was busy and it was fun.

Sky Scarf 08-2013

Ach herrje, man kommt ja zu gar nichts. Hätte ich doch fast vergessen über den Monat August meines Schals zu erzählen. Auch wenn man hier einige dunkle Streifen sieht, so heißt das nur, dass der ersehnte Regen kam und das meistens nachts. Also falls es jetzt schon in Vergessenheit geraten ist, weil das Wetter sich schon sehr herbstlich zeigt, Juli und August waren die heißesten Monate seit Jahren. Ich denke noch gerne daran zurück :) 

Oh dear, I had almost forgotten to tell about the month August of my scarf. Even if you see some dark stripes here, it means only that the long-desired rain came. So if it's already been forgotten because the weather is very autumnal, July and August were the hottest months for years. I still like to remember :)

Kürzlich gelesen und für gut befunden. Was ja sehr subjektiv ist. Habe ich in jüngeren Jahren hauptsächlich Herz-Schmerz-Romane gelesen, so liebe ich seit einigen Jahren Krimis. Am liebsten historische, aber auch Provinzkrimis. Egal, ob Bayern, Allgäu, Salzkammergut, Altaussee oder Wien, wichtig ist spannend und humorig.

Wrapping Paper Storage Bag - Geschenkpapieraufbewahrung

Endlich mal wieder was gemacht, das ich mir schon sooo lange vorgenommen habe. Eine uralte nicht mehr benutzte Bettwäsche musste dran glauben. Sieht aus wie eine Golftasche, ist aber keine. Sondern eine Aufbewahrungstasche für Geschenkpapierrollen mit einem extra Beutel für Bänder und Schleifen. Die Tasche ist gefüttert (Stoff doppelt gelegt), aber nur oben und unten mit Volumenvlies verstärkt. 

Finally I finished a thing what I've wanted for sooo long. I took an old bed linen, not used any more. Looks like a golf bag, but it is not. But a storage bag for wrapping paper rolls with an extra bag for ribbons and bows. The bag is lined but only top and bottom are with interfacing. 

Last Day of School Holidays - Letzter Ferientag

Gestern war der letzte Ferientag von 9 Wochen Schulferien. Weil zu Mittag das Wetter auf Sonne schaltete, wollten wir spontan einen Ausflug machen. Auf der Ostseite des Neusiedlersees gibt es das Schloss Halbturn, das ich mir schon lange ansehen will. Als ich mir die Adresse fürs Navi im Internet suchte, stellte ich fest, dass genau dieses Wochenende die Gartenlust stattfindet. Eine Verkaufsaustellung für Schönes in Heim und Garten. Außerdem besuchten wir auch die derzeit laufende, sehr schön und interessant gestaltete Bernstein-Ausstellung. Es war ein wunderschöner Nachmittag, mit vielen tollen Eindrücken. Das Barockschloss ist ein Schmuckstück, die Gartenanlage wunderschön und unter einer schattigen Linde probierten wir einen Elsässischen Flammkuchen. Lecker! 

Yesterday was the last day of 9 weeks of school holidays. Because the weather turned to sun at noon, we wanted to make a spontaneous trip. On the east side of Lake Neusiedl, there is the Halbturn Palace, I want to visit for a long time. When I looked up the address for the navigation system on the Internet, I found that just this weekend takes place Gartenlust. A sales exhibition for home and garden. We also visited the ongoing, very nice and interesting designed exhibition about amber. It was a beautiful afternoon, with lots of great impressions. The baroque palace is a gem, the gardens are beautiful and under a linden tree (lime tree) we tried an Alsatian Tarte. Yummy!

Banana Bread - Bananenbrot

Es heißt zwar Brot ist aber ein Kuchen. Das ist Kuchen Nr. 2, der erste musste so schnell dran glauben, dass für Fotos keine Zeit blieb. Dem Bananenbrot habe ich noch geriebene Nüsse, Schokosplitter und etwas Buttermilch zugefügt und nur 1/2 Päckchen Backpulver verwendet. 
Zur Zeit regnet es seit zwei Tagen, aber ich finde das momentan noch schön. Der Garten hat sein Grün wiedergefunden und atmet wieder durch nach diesem langen heißen trockenen Sommer. 

Although it is called bread it is a cake. This is cake No. 2, the first one was eaten so quickly – no time for pictures.

Recipe: 
2-3 very ripe mashed bananas
100 g/0,22 lb/3.5 oz sugar
1 egg
4 tablespoons oil (I had canola oil)
300 g/0.66 lb/10.5 oz flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
3 tablespoons grated nuts
2 tablespoons chocolate chips
2-3 tablespoons buttermilk (or milk) 
Put all together, mix well, bake for about 45 minutes with 180°C/356F. 

At the moment it is raining for two days, but I think it's currently still beautiful. The garden finds its green colour again after this long hot dry summer.

Strickmuster Sky Scarf

Sabine fragte mich, wie ich die Zacken in meinen Schal bekomme. Bei der Suche nach dem Strickmuster im Netz bin ich nicht wirklich fündig geworden, obwohl es ein bekanntes einfaches Muster ist, das man vielfach variieren kann. Daher habe ich hier eine Anleitung geschrieben, wie ich meinen Schal stricke. Die Zacken entstehen ganz von alleine durch die Zu- und Abnahmen im Muster. Falls was unklar ist, bitte einfach fragen.

When looking for the knitting pattern on the internet I am not really find anything, even though it is a known simple pattern that can be varied in many ways. Therefore I have written a guide on how I knit my scarf. The waves arise all by themselves by the increases and decreases in the pattern.

Dining Room Facelift - Esszimmer Renovierung

Zur heißesten Zeit des Jahres haben wir unser Esszimmer renoviert. Es hat sehr viel länger gedauert als angenommen, aber uns überzeugt das Ergebnis. Unser Haus wurde 1880 erbaut und damals war es üblich die Räume mit Wandpaneelen aus Holz zu isolieren. Leider alles in dunkelbraun gestrichen. Im Esszimmer, das nordseitig liegt, war es mir immer zu dunkel. Vier mal mussten wir drüber streichen, damit die Farbe endlich abgedeckt wurde. Die Wand malten wir zartgrün aus und verzierten sie mit einer Bordüre in orange. Außerdem werden noch zwei braune Schränke gegen weiße ausgetauscht und neue Vorhänge gibt's auch noch dazu. Wir genießen das frische helle Zimmer sehr und ich freue mich schon, wenn alles fertig ist.

Our dining room needed a facelift and we did it during the hottest time of the year. It has taken much longer as assumed, but we were convinced by the result. Our house was built in 1880 and at that time it was common practice to insulate the rooms with wooden wall panels. Unfortunately, all painted in dark brown. In the dining room, which is located on the north side, it was always too dark. Four times we had to paint before it finally covered the ground. We painted the wall in pale green and decorated it with a border in orange. Furthermore, two brown cabinets will be replaced by white ones and there will be also new curtains. We enjoy this fresh bright room a lot and I'm looking forward to when everything is ready.

Sky Scarf 07-2013

Hallo! Ich bin wieder da. Neuer PC funzt so halbwegs, obwohl Windows 8 und ich noch keine Freunde sind und mich schon ein paar Mal ziemlich reingelegt hat. ABER man kämpft sich so durch.
Viel ist passiert in diesen zwei Wochen, fangen wir am Anfang an. Bei meinem Schal ist der Juli hinzugekommen, durchwegs blau, was bedeutet dass dieser Sommer einfach grandios ist. Bei uns in Österreich wurde ein neuer Hitzerekord erreicht und zwar 40,6°C. Da sind meine Kleine und ich nur auf Tauchstation gegangen. 

Hello! I'm back. I got a new computer even though Windows 8 and I are no friends yet and I was already a few times pretty tricked. BUT one fights through.
A lot has happened in those two weeks, we start at the beginning. In my scarf July is added, all of them blue, which means that this summer is just terrific. Here in Austria, a new heat record was reached and it is 40.6°C (105.08°F). Therefore my girl and I have spent this time in the pool.

Color Collecting Picture Green - Farbwimmelbild Grün

Momentan bin ich völlig durch den Wind. Mein PC funzt nicht. Ob permanent oder vielleicht doch wieder, erfahre ich heute Abend. Zur Zeit arbeite ich auf dem Laptop meines Mannes. Was für eine Wüste! Nicht mal ein Bildbearbeitungsprogramm ist hier drauf. Aber sind wir mal froh, dass überhaupt noch ein anderes PC-Gerät im Haus ist. Daher gibt es heute nur einen Minimalpost. 

Right now I'm completely confused. My PC does not work. Whether permanently or maybe can fixed again, I learn tonight. I am currently working on my husband's laptop. What a wilderness! Not even an image editor is there. But let's be happy that yet another PC device is in the house. Therefore, there is only a minimal post today.

My Couch Blanket - Meine Sofadecke

Das ist meine Sofadecke seit über 20 Jahren. Sie liegt immer auf der Couch, Sommer wie Winter. Zwecks notwendiger Reparaturen hat sie heute das Sofa und das Wohnzimmer verlassen. Und landete dann auch gleich auf dem Rasen zum Fotografieren. Hier sieht man genau, wo der Rasensprenger hinreicht und wo nicht bewässert wurde. Wir haben einen eigenen Brunnen, daher bewässern wir den Rasen direkt beim Haus. 

This is my sofa blanket for over 20 years. Always lying on the couch, summer and winter. For the purpose of necessary repairs it has now left the couch and the living room. And then also immediately landed on the grass to take pictures. Here you can see exactly where the sprinkler irrigated the lawn and where not. We have a private well, so we water the lawn next to the house.

My Sky #3 - Ein Stück Himmel

Für diese Fotos musste ich tief graben. Ich habe sie vom Fotoalbum eingescannt, weil ich damals noch keine Digicam hatte. Der erste Urlaub mit meinem Freund, mit dem ich erst ein paar Monate zusammen war. Karibik, Antigua 1997. Ich lass das Fotoalbum auf dem Küchentisch liegen, dann kann sich mein Mann das später anschauen und auch in Erinnerungen schwelgen ;) 

For these photos I had to dig deep. I've scanned the photo album because I had no digicam that time. The first vacation with my boyfriend with whom I was only a few months together.

Heute mal wieder daran gedacht. Den 12. Tag des Monats dokumentiert man mit 12 Fotos. Mehr zu diesem Thema findet man bei "Draußen nur Kännchen".

Meine Füße rauchen, der Tag hatte es in sich. Zwei Wochen Ferien haben wir geschafft, aber heute stand uns der Sinn nach Großstadt. Also auf nach Wien über die Südosttangente, die am meisten befahrene Straße in Österreich. Außer in den Ferien, heute war nicht viel los. 

My feet are hot, the day was hard. Two weeks holiday past, but today we got in the mood for big city. So off to Vienna over the Südosttangente the most traveled road in Austria. Except during the holidays, today it was easy, not much traffic. 

My Sky #2

Da ich ja sowieso jeden Tag zum Himmel schaue für meinen Sky Scarf, kann ich auch ein Foto machen, sogar mit Schwalben. Mein Schal schaut zur Zeit fast langweilig aus, immer nur Blau. Ich will's nicht verschreien, so könnte es noch bis September sein.

As I do every day anyway, look to the sky for my Sky Scarf, I can take a picture, even with swallows. My scarf looks almost boring at the time, only blue. Hope this beautiful summer weather will last till September.

Color Collecting Picture Pink - Farbwimmelbild Pink

Inspiriert von Carina's 'Random Things That Are' habe ich meiner Kleinen heute die Aufgabe gestellt, so ein Farbbild zusammenzustellen. Die erste Farbe, die sie sich ausgesucht hat, war natürlich Pink. Sie war ganz Feuer und Flamme und hat Unmengen Sachen angeschleppt, wo wir dann die Dinge aussuchten, die aufs Bild müssen. Gute Methode, um die Kinder in den Ferien zu beschäftigen. Wir hatten einige AHA-Erlebnisse, weil Sachen gefunden wurden, die schon lange verschollen waren. 

Inspired by Carina's 'Random Things That Are' I gave my girlie the task, to put together a color image. The first color she has chosen was of course pink. She had a lot of fun searching all the things for the picture. Good method to get children busy during holidays. We had some 'aha' experiences, because things were found that were lost long ago.
