K wie Kürbis

Kürbis gibt es zwar erst im Herbst, aber jetzt ist das K dran. Wir lieben Kürbis, besonders Butternut und Hokkaido. Butternut weil er süßlich schmeckt und Gerichten einen einzigartigen Geschmack verleiht und Hokkaido, weil man ihn nicht schälen braucht und eine Größe hat, die leicht aufzubrauchen ist. Kürbis macht von Anfang bis Ende Spaß. Die großen Samenkerne sind sehr sprießfreudig und die Pflanzen leicht zu erkennen (besonders für mich botanisches Nockerl wichtig: ich kann kleine hochwertige Gemüsesprösslinge nicht von kleinem minderwertigen Unkraut unterscheiden). Daher bekommt Kürbis immer einen Platz in meinem Gemüsebeet. Ein Ergebnis ist garantiert.

Pumpkins aren't available until fall, but now's the time for the letter K. We love pumpkins, especially Butternut and Hokkaido. Butternut because of its sweet taste and unique flavor, and Hokkaido because you don't need to peel it and it's a size that's easy to use up. Pumpkins are fun from start to finish. The large seeds sprout readily, and the plants are easy to identify (especially important for me as a botanical ignorant: I can't tell small, high-quality vegetables sprouts from small, low-quality weeds). Therefore, pumpkins always get a place in my vegetable patch. A result is guaranteed. 

Unsere zwei absoluten Lieblingsgerichte sind: Kürbis-Risotto und Kürbis-Lasagne. Yummy! Außerdem mache ich manchmal auch Apfel-Kürbis-Marmelade. Auch in Kombination mit gemischtem Ofengemüse als Gemüsebeilage zur Grillerei ganz köstlich. So und jetzt freue ich mich schon auf die Kürbissaison.

Our two absolute favorite dishes are pumpkin risotto and pumpkin lasagna. Yummy! I also sometimes make apple-pumpkin-jam. It's also delicious combined with mixed roasted vegetables as a side dish for a barbecue. And now I'm already looking forward to pumpkin season.
