We made the last Sunday excursion to Lockenhaus Castle in Burgenland. Supposedly the last "real" knight's castle in Austria. Built around the year 1200, the castle has seen turbulent times. One time it was owned by the Knights Templar and another time the Blood Countess Elisabeth Báthory was up to mischief.
The knight's castle has been extensively renovated and beautifully restored. Of course there are historical rooms such as the knight's hall, cult room, torture chamber, smoke room, ballroom, chapel, crypt, frescos and tavern. You can explore and admire the castle on your own up and down the stairs. Bats also love the castle. In the attic you will find the nursery of the Geoffroy's bat, which grows to a colony of up to 1.000 animals over the summer.
Die Leute damals müssen fit gewesen sein, um in so einer Burg zu leben. Was hatte ich nächsten Tag für einen Muskelkater vom Stufen steigen. Toller Ausflug. Die Fotos der Rose Raubritter sind aus meinem Garten. Ich liebe die zartrosa kugeligen Blüten.
The people back then must have been fit to live in a castle like this. How sore my muscles were from climbing the stairs the next day. Great trip. The photos of the Rose Raubritter are from my garden. I love the soft pink spherical flowers.

ReplyDeleteHi! Happy you like my pictures. Thanks for stopping by.
DeleteWhat beautiful photos... but I got a bit nervous at the mention of bats. Ugh, as much as I love that they eat so many mosquitoes they still give me the creeps.
ReplyDeleteSometimes bats fly their rounds in our bedsrooms in the night because our windows are wide open. And we appreciate that they eat up all mosquitos, bugs and spiders. They never touched us.
DeleteFabulous photos!
