12tel Blick 2026 - Mai

Der Mai war wunderbar, aber viel zu trocken. Wie üblich in den letzten Jahren. Auf Rasen und Wiesen sieht man schon Trockenflecken. Im Garten werden nur die Gemüsebeete bewässert und vielleicht noch ab und zu das kurze Stück Rasen bis zum Poolplatz. Der Pool steht noch nicht. Wir haben keine Poolheizung, also wird gewartet bis die Hitze stabil bleibt. Das Foto wurde frühmorgens aufgenommen, Sonne kommt von links, da ist Osten. Im Mai hat auch der letzte Baum seine Blätterpracht ausgebildet und das ist der Walnussbaum. Im Aprilfoto sieht man hinter dem rechten Hochbeet noch einen eher kahlen Baum, das ist der Nussbaum. Hätte ich nicht eine 12tel-Blick-Fotoserie über den Walnussbaum gemacht, wäre mir das gar nicht aufgefallen.

May was wonderful, but far too dry. As usual in recent years. You can already see dry patches on the lawn and meadows. In the garden, only the vegetable beds are watered, and perhaps occasionally the short stretch of lawn leading to the pool area. The pool isn't set up yet. We don't have a pool heater, so we're waiting until the heat is consistently good. The photo was taken early in the morning; the sun is coming from the left, which is east. In May, the last tree finally developed its full leaves, and that's the walnut tree. In the April picture, you can see a rather bare tree behind the raised bed on the right; that's the walnut tree. If I hadn't taken a series of photos of the walnut tree for the photo challenge some years ago, I wouldn't have noticed it at all. 

12tel Blick 2026 - April

Bumm und grün. April war wunderbar, außer zu wenig Regen. Aber so sind die Zeiten nun mal, es wird immer trockener. Meine Gemüsebeete sind fertig und demnächst wird gepflanzt. Das Schilf ist geschnitten und auch einige Blumenbeete habe ich durchgejätet und geschnitten, aber noch nicht alles. Momentan blühen die Apfelbäume, die Blutpflaume und der Flieder. So schön!

Boom and green. April was wonderful, except for the lack of rain. But that's how things are these days; it's getting drier and drier. My vegetable beds are ready, and I'll be planting soon. The reeds have been cut, and I've also weeded and trimmed some of the flower beds, but not everything yet. The apple trees, the purple-leaf plum, and the lilac are currently in bloom. So beautiful! 

12tel Blick 2026 - März

In der Foto-Collage merkt man deutlich wie grün das Gras geworden ist. Außerdem blüht schon eine ganze Menge. Ein paar Details aus dem Foto habe ich unten größer gezeigt. Mein Mann repariert gerade wieder mein Hochbeet. Alle paar Jahre muss man ein paar Latten austauschen, weil sie verrotten. Rechtzeitig vor der Pflanzung wird er fertig werden. Momentan ist wieder ein kleiner Kälteeinbruch und wir haben Angst um die Magnolien- und Marillenblüte. Der Anhänger vom letzten Mal ist weg und das Holz entlang der Hausmauer aufgeschichtet. Hier kann es schön durchtrocknen und wird in der nächsten Heizsaison verwendet. Immer wieder schön in den Gärten ist die Forsythienblüte. Sie zeigt dem Winter so richtig, dass jetzt der Frühling dran ist.

In the photo collage, you can clearly see how green the grass has become. A lot of plants are already in bloom, too. I've included a few larger details from the photo below. My husband is currently repairing my raised garden bed. Every few years, a few boards need replacing because they rot. He'll have it finished in time for planting. We're having another cold snap at the moment, and we're worried about the magnolia and apricot blossoms. The trailer from last time is gone, and the wood is stacked along the house wall. It can dry out nicely here and will be used next heating season. The forsythia blossom is always a beautiful sight in the gardens. It really signals to winter that spring has arrived.

R wie Rosen

Beim Buchstaben R sind mir sofort Rosen eingefallen. Ich denke immer noch zurück, als wir unser Haus gekauft haben, vor über zwei Jahrzehnten, und ich in den Garten schaute und sagte: "Aber Rosen pflanzen wir keine, die mag ich nicht." Und nun nach vielen Jahren und etwa 20 Rosenbüschen später, bin ich immer noch kein Fan, aber kaufe sie trotzdem. Wie alles in meinem Garten, muss jede Pflanze mit den natürlichen Gegebenheiten alleine zurecht kommen. Bei mir gibt es keinen Dünger oder aufwändige Pflege oder Spritzungen gegen irgendwas. Einige Rosen verschwanden, aber der Großteil hat sich angepasst und blüht trotz der manchmal nicht optimalen Umstände. Sie sind nicht so Diven wie man denkt.

R is for Roses

The letter R immediately brings roses to mind. I still think back to when we bought our house over two decades ago, and I looked out into my backyard and said, "But we're not planting any roses, I don't like them." And now, many years and about 20 rose bushes later, I'm still not a fan, but I buy them anyway. Like everything in my garden, each plant has to cope with the natural conditions on its own. I don't use any fertilizer, elaborate care, or sprays for anything. Some roses disappeared, but most have adapted and bloom despite the sometimes less than ideal circumstances. They are acting less as a prima donna as you might think. 

12tel Blick 2026 - Jänner

Ich bin wieder mit dabei, beim 12tel Blick. Zurück in meinem Garten. Die zündende Idee zu diesem Blick aus dem Dachfenster hatte mein Mann und wahrscheinlich machte er einen Scherz, aber mich hatte es schon gepackt. Unten sieht man noch zwei andere Perspektiven aus dem Dachfenster, aber letztendlich wurde es dieses. Es zeigt den Blick auf unseren Garten in Richtung Süden und wie man sieht ist er sehr schmal, aber auch sehr lang auf den Hügel rauf. Momentan bei Schneelage ist es ideal zum Bobfahren. Wir haben ein Jahrhundertwendehaus aus 1880, also Altbau. Wenn ich aus dem Dachfenster schaue (in dem Fall das linke) bin ich etwa 9 Meter oder mehr über dem Boden oder im 3. Stockwerk eines modernen Hauses. 

I'm back again for the photo challenge 2026. Back in my yard. The brilliant idea for this view from the skylight came from my husband, and he was probably joking, but I was already hooked. Below you can see two other perspectives from the skylight, but this is the one I ultimately chose. It shows the view of our garden facing south, and as you can see, it's very narrow but also very long, stretching up the hill. With the snow right now, it's perfect for sledding. We have a turn-of-the-century house from 1880, so it's an old building. When I look out of the skylight (in this case, the one on the left), I'm about 9 or more meters above the ground, or on the third floor of a modern house.

O wie Obstbaum, Obstbaumblüten, Obstbaumwiese

Wir haben einen sehr großen Garten, ein Viertel Ziergarten und drei Viertel Obstbaumwiese. Auf der Obstbaumwiese stehen Apfel-, Birn- und Zwetschkenbäume. Sie ist ansteigend und bei Schnee kann man super Bobfahren. Die Bäume blühen zuverlässig jedes Jahr wunderschön und geben mal mehr, mal weniger Früchte ab. Und außer Obst klauben, Wiese mähen und alle paar Jahre einige Zweiglein schneiden eine pflegeleichte Sache, daher ganz große Liebe für die Obstbaumwiese. 

Wahrscheinlich haben Wühlmäuse den Baum in Schieflage gebracht. Seit 20 Jahren warten wir darauf, dass er umfällt. Trotzdem produziert er weiterhin köstliche Tafelbirnen. 

Voles probably caused the tree to lean. We've been waiting for it to fall for 20 years. Despite this, it continues to produce delicious dessert pears.

O is for Orchard

We have a very large garden, a quarter ornamental garden and three-quarters orchard. The orchard has apple, pear, and plum trees. It slopes gently, and when it snows, it's great for sledding. The trees reliably blossom beautifully every year and produce varying amounts of fruit. And apart from picking fruit, mowing the lawn, and pruning a few branches every few years, it's very low-maintenance, which is why we love our orchard so much. 

12tel Blick 2025 - August

Ab Mitte August habe ich immer schon herbstliche Gefühle. Es liegt an der Luft am frühen Morgen. Da riecht es plötzlich nach Herbst, auch wenn es dann tagsüber wieder heiß ist. Obwohl ich den Herbst liebe, mehr als den Sommer, werde ich doch etwas traurig, weil es bedeutet, dass das Jahr dem Ende zustrebt. Auch auf meinem 12tel Blick kann man den Herbst schon erkennen. Die Kastanien reifen und der Baum färbt sich ein. Das kann aber auch an der Kastanienwelke liegen. Im Park geht gerade eine Frau mit ihrem Hund spazieren. Der Himmel zeigt sich von seiner bezaubernden Seite. 

From mid-August onwards, I always start to feel autumnal. It's in the air early in the morning. It suddenly smells like autumn, even if it's hot again during the day. Although I love autumn, more than summer, I still feel a little sad because it means the year is coming to an end. Even at my August picture, I can already see the scent of autumn. The chestnuts are ripening and the tree is changing colour. But that could also be due to the chestnut wilt. In the park, a woman is walking her dog. The sky is showing its enchanting side.

H wie Holunderblüten 

Bei Elfi von ELFis Kartenblog gibt es die ABC-Foto-LinkParty. Diesmal dreht sich bei mir alles um Holunderblüten, denn davon habe ich jedes Jahr genug, weil ich gleich zwei Holunderbäume (Sambucus nigra) im Garten habe.

Orchideen in der Vase - Orchids in a Glass

Ich habe für Zimmerpflanzen leider keinen 'Grünen Daumen'. Nach einiger Zeit ziehen sie es immer vor, zu sterben als sich länger meiner hingebungsvollen Pflege auszusetzen. Aber es gibt dennoch Arten, die mich aushalten und überleben. Dazu gehören Bogenhanf (Sansevieria), Glücksfeder (Zamioculcas) und Phalaenopsis. 

Unfortunately, I don't have a 'green thumb' when it comes to houseplants. After a while, they always prefer to die rather than be subjected to my devoted care any longer. But there are still species that can stand up to me and survive. These include Bowstring hemp, ZZ plant (Zamioculcas zamiifolia) and Phalaenopsis. 

Monatscollage April 2024

Monatsrückblick für April: 

1. Ich habe von einer Methode gelesen, dass man Orchideen in Wasser halten kann und das werde ich jetzt testen, nachdem ich wieder eine Phalaenopsis in Substrat verloren habe. Bis jetzt habe ich tolle Ergebnisse erzielt. Neue Austriebe nach nur zwei Wochen. Darüber werde ich mal einen eigenen Post machen.
2. Mir fiel auf, dass die Blätter unserer Ulme anders aussahen als die letzten 20 Jahre und siehe da, es waren Blüten. Nach etwa 20-30 Jahren blühen Ulmen zum ersten Mal und so sieht das aus. Cool, oder?
3. Salat, Rote Beete und Kohlrabi sind gepflanzt. Die Tomatenpflanzen haben den kurzen Temperatureinbruch nicht so gut vertragen. Die oberirdischen Blätter sind erfroren, aber die Pflanzen treiben aus den Wurzeln und Blattachseln neu aus.
4. Für Blümchen im Sommer ist gesorgt. Auf der Freifläche im Beet habe ich eine bunte Blumenmischung ausgesät.
5. - 8. machen mir einfach nur Freude. Rhabarber kann ich bald ernten. Vergissmeinnicht sind einfach zauberhaft. Gibt fast nichts schöneres als Apfelblüte im April und Allium ist immer wieder ein Highlight im Beet und beim fliegenden Insektenvolk unglaublich beliebt. 

Die Monatscollage kann man bei die Birgitt abgeben und auch viele andere anschauen. 

A retrospect of April: 

1. I read about a method that allows you to keep orchids in water and I'm going to test that now that I've lost another Phalaenopsis. So far I've had great results. New shoots after just two weeks. I'll write a separate post about that.
2. I noticed that the leaves of our elm looked different than they had for the last 20 years and what surprise, they were flowers. After about 20-30 years, elms bloom for the first time and this is what it looks like. Cool, right?
3. I already planted lettuce, beetroot and kohlrabi. The tomato plants didn't tolerate the brief drop in temperature so well. The above-ground leaves froze, but the plants are sprouting new shoots from the roots and leaf axils.
4. Colorful flowers are guaranteed in the summer. I've sown a colorful flower mix in the open space in the bed.
5. - 8. just give me joy. I'll be able to harvest rhubarb soon. Forget-me-nots are simply magical. There is almost nothing more beautiful than apple blossom in April and Allium is always a highlight in the flower bed and incredibly popular with flying insects.

12tel Blick 2023 - Dezember

Geschafft! 12 Monate, 12 Bilder. Ein Bild mit Schnee. Soviel Schnee wie im November und Dezember hatten wir schon Jahre nicht mehr. Und trotzdem war es warm wie nie. Am Weihnachtstag zeigte das Thermometer bei uns 17°C. Mein Kopf wollte am liebsten explodieren. Seit ein paar Jahren nimmt meine Wetterfühligkeit zu. Besonders bei Föhnwind. Hatte ich früher nie. 

Done! 12 months, 12 pictures. A picture with snow. We haven't had as much snow as we did in November and December in years. And yet it was warmer than ever. On Christmas Day the thermometer showed 17°C. My head wanted to explode. My sensitivity to the weather has been increasing over the last few years. Especially in foehn weather. I never had it before. 

12tel Blick 2023 - November

Die letzten paar Tage wurde es ziemlich kalt und es hat etwas geschneit, aber bis dahin war der November sehr mild und nass. Ich habe ein Foto von der Mitte des Monats gewählt, da hat sich mein Mann durch das Laub gewühlt und hauptsächlich die Walnussblätter eingesammelt. Walnussblätter enthalten hohe Mengen an Gerbstoffen, die und der Lichtmangel durch die Größe der Blätter beeinträchtigen das Gras darunter, daher lassen wir es nicht liegen. Das Laub der anderen Bäume kann auf der Streuobstwiese liegen bleiben, das wird im Frühjahr bei der ersten Mahd gemulcht. 

The last few days it got pretty cold and there was some snow, but until then November had been very mild and wet. I chose a photo from the middle of the month when my husband was digging through the leaves and collecting mainly the walnut leaves. Walnut leaves contain high amounts of tannins, which and the lack of light due to the size of the leaves affect the grass underneath, so we don't leave it lying around. The leaves of the other trees can be left on the orchard; they will be mulched during the first mowing in spring. 

12tel Blick 2023 - Oktober

Durch unseren Urlaub über den Monatswechsel, bin ich sehr verspätet dran, meinen Blick zu posten. Der Walnussbaum hat alle Blätter verloren und schaut nun etwas traurig aus. Er ist einer der letzten, der im Frühjahr Blätter bekommt und verliert sie als einer der ersten. 

Due to our vacation over the turn of the month, I'm very late in posting my view. The walnut tree has lost all its leaves and looks now a bit sad. It is one of the last to get leaves in spring and one of the first to lose them. 

12tel Blick 2023 - September

Mittagssonne. Gegenlicht. Nächsten Monat nehme ich mir mehr Zeit, um ein schöneres Foto zu bekommen. Die Zeit verfliegt. Es ist schon wieder der letzte Tag des Monats. Momentan habe ich Probleme mit meinem Zeitmanagement. So wie meistens gegen Ende des Jahres. Da fällt einem immer ein, was man sich im Jänner vorgenommen hat und ganz plötzlich ist Oktober. Krass! 

Midday sun. Backlight. Next month I'll take more time to get a nicer picture. Time flies. It's the last day of the month again. I'm having problems with my time management at the moment. Like usually towards the end of the year. You always remember what you planned to do this year in January and all of a sudden it's October. Crazy! 

Aber September ist einer meiner Lieblingsmonate. Es ist noch schön warm, aber nicht mehr so heiß. Die Luft ist angenehm, man kann nachts wieder gut schlafen. Der Garten produziert immer noch wie verrückt, aber eigentlich ist der Tiefkühler schon voll. Die Herbstblumen sind voll in Blüte, die Blätter fallen schon, aber der Stress aus der Gartenbewirtschaftung ist raus. Schön! 

But September is one of my favorite months. It's still nice and warm, but not so hot anymore. The air is pleasant and you can sleep well again at night. The garden is still producing like crazy, but the freezer is actually already full. The autumn flowers are in full bloom, the leaves are already falling, but the stress of managing the garden is gone. Nice!

Pflanzen im Glas - Plants in a Jar

I did it again! Ich hab wieder einen Flaschengarten gemacht. And I love it! Ich hatte noch ein zweites Riesenglas, das sich hervorragend für einen Minigarten im Glas eignet. Im Gartencenter findet man bezaubernde kleine Pflanzen, die man mit Deko zu einer spannenden kleinen Miniwelt arrangieren kann. Meinen 1. Flaschengarten findet ihr HIER.

I did it again! I made another bottle garden. And I love it! I had a second giant glass jar that is ideal for a mini garden in a glass. In the garden center you can find charming little plants that you can arrange with decorations to create an exciting little mini world. Find my 1st Bottle Garden HERE. 

12tel Blick 2023 - August

Der Sommer ist vorbei. Ende August merkt man das immer frühmorgens, wenn schon ein bisschen Dunst in der Luft und Tau auf dem Gras liegt und die Bäume schon Blätter fallen lassen. Und heute frühmorgens war auch der Zeitpunkt, an dem ich das Foto aufgenommen habe. Sonne kommt von links, also Osten und wir blicken Richtung Süden. Die Wiese glitzert, weil sie etwas feucht ist und die Luft frisch. Extrem heiße Tage liegen hinter uns, gefüllt mit schweren Stürmen und Gewittern, heftigen Überflutungen und Waldbränden. Total verrückt! Zum Glück nichts davon in unserer Nähe. 

Summer is over. At the end of August you always notice this early in the morning, when there is already a bit of mist in the air and dew on the grass and the trees are already dropping leaves. And this morning was also the time when I took the picture. The sun comes from the left, i.e. east, and we are looking towards the south. The meadow glitters because it is a bit damp and the air is fresh. Extremely hot days are behind us, filled with severe storms and thunderstorms, severe flooding and wildfires. So crazy! Luckily none of that around us. 

12tel Blick 2023 - Juli

Meine Tochter (17) hat ihr Pflichtpraktikum für die Schule absolviert und die Ferien können endlich beginnen. Mein Mädchen macht zwar jetzt den Führerschein und muss zum Kurs, aber das betrifft mich nicht. Unseren Jahresurlaub verbringen wir erst im Herbst, also ist einen Monat lang Nichtstun auf der Agenda. Herrlich! Naja abgesehen, dass der Hausherr derzeit auch Urlaub hat und er immer was tun will. Da muss ich echt ein Auge drauf haben, sonst tut er wieder eine Baustelle auf, die wochenlang dauert. 

My daughter (17) has completed her mandatory internship for school and the holidays can finally begin. My girl is now getting her driver's license and has to attend a course, but that doesn't concern me. We spend our family vacation in autumn, so doing nothing for a month is on the agenda. Splendid! Well apart from the fact that the man of the house is currently on vacation too and he always wants to do anything. I really have to keep an eye on him, otherwise he will open up a new construction site that will last for weeks. 

DIY Flaschengarten - Bottle Garden

Ich hab was ganz Süßes gemacht, und zwar einen Flaschengarten. Er ist so zauberhaft geworden, ich bin ganz verliebt. Ein Flaschengarten ist nichts anderes als kleine oder junge Pflanzen im Glas. Mein Flaschengarten ist oben offen, aber eigentlich gehört ein Deckel drauf und im Idealfall erhält sich das System alleine durch die Verdunstung. Aber mein Glas hat keinen Deckel und ich habe nichts dagegen, ab und an zu gießen.

I made something really cute, a bottle garden. It has become so magical, I am completely in love. A bottle garden is nothing more than small or young plants in a glass. My bottle garden is open at the top, but it actually needs a lid and ideally the system is maintained solely by evaporation. But my jar doesn't have a lid and I don't mind pouring once in a while. 

12tel Blick 2023 - Juni

Halbzeit ist schon wieder. Sechs Fotos gibt es seit Jänner von meinem Nussbaum. Und er hat sich wieder prächtig ins Laub geworfen. Diesmal habe ich den Fototermin fast wieder verpasst und daher gibt's nur das schlichte Foto ohne Schnickschnack, weder 2 noch 4-Beiner hatten Zeit.

It's halftime again. There have been six photos of my walnut tree since January. And he threw himself magnificently into the foliage. This time I almost missed the photo session and therefore there is only the simple picture without frills, neither 2 nor 4-legged family members had time.
