DIY - Einkaufstasche nähen - Sew a Tote Bag

Blaumann wird zur Einkaufstasche 

Meine Tochter brauchte eine große Einkaufstasche, um Lebensmitteleinkäufe vom Auto zum Haus zu tragen. Zu Hause lag ein alter kaum benutzter Blaumann (blaue Arbeitsmontur) herum. Der feste Stoff der Arbeitskleidung wurde zerkleinert und in eine große Tasche umgewandelt. Von alten zerrissenen Rucksäcken schneide ich mir immer Bänder und Schnallen ab, daher konnte ich die Riemen hier auch wieder verwenden. Mit dem Ergebnis sind wir beide sehr zufrieden. 

Work clothes become shopping bag 

My daughter needed a large shopping bag to carry groceries from the car to the house. At home, I had an old, barely used boiler suit lying around. The sturdy fabric of the work clothes was turned into a large bag. I always cut straps and buckles off old, torn backpacks, so I was able to reuse the straps here. We are both very happy with the result. 

DIY Couchtisch - Coffee Table

Mein Sommerprojekt ist fertig und gut geworden. In einer Wohnzeitschrift habe ich gesehen, wie ein einfacher Küchentisch zu einem wunderschönen Couchtisch umgewandelt wurde. Ich habe vor in Zukunft das Wohnzimmer umzugestalten und da braucht es einen anderen Couchtisch. Jetzt passt er vielleicht noch nicht so gut dazu, aber mit dem neuen Sofa und der Wandfarbe schon. Also habe ich über eine Secondhand Verkaufsplattform einen handwerklich wunderbaren alten Küchentisch für 30 Euro erstanden und losgelegt.

My summer project is finished and turned out well. In an interior design magazine I saw how a simple kitchen table was transformed into a beautiful coffee table. I plan to redesign the living room in the future and I need a different coffee table. It may not fit in well now, but with the new sofa and the wall color, it will. So I bought a beautifully crafted old kitchen table for 30 EUR (32 USD) on a second-hand sales platform and got started. 

Beanie Mütze - Slouchy Beanie Hat

Mein Mann brauchte von Null auf Jetzt eine dünne Mütze. Ich schlachtete ein T-Shirt, googelte ein Schnittmuster und 20 Minuten später, hatte ich die Mütze fertig. Die war natürlich zu klein und war ein Gewinn für meine Tochter, aber das 2. Modell passte dann perfekt.

My husband needed a thin hat as soon as possible and better right away. So I slaughtered a t-shirt, googled a pattern and 20 minutes later I had the hat ready. It was of course too small and was a win for my daughter, but the second model then fitted perfectly. 

DIY Slipeinlagen mit Druckknopf - Panty Liners with Snaps

Ich habe mir schon vor Jahren Slipeinlagen aus Stoff genäht - siehe HIER, die absolut super sind, aber im Sommer sind sie mir zu dick und zu heiß. Also habe ich mir die Version mit Druckknopf ausgesucht. Da kann ich auch wieder mal ein paar Kam Snaps abbauen (damals musste ich die auch in jeder Farbe haben). 

Years ago I sewed panty liners out of fabric - see HERE, they are absolutely great, but in summer they are too thick and too hot for me. So I chose the version with a push button. I can also use up a few Kam Snaps (back then I had to have them in every color). 

Aus lang mach kurz - Shorten Your Pants

Viel gibt's hier nicht zu sagen. Obenrum waren die Jeans noch OK. Untenrum zu kurz oder durch und labbrig. Die hellblaue bekam eine offene Kante und darf ausfransen. Die graue wurde nach außen aufgekrempelt und der Aufschlag festgenäht. Meiner Tochter gefällt's. Also 👍

There's not much to say here. The jeans were still OK at the waist. At the bottom too short, too thin and limp. The light blue got an open edge and is allowed to fray. The gray one was rolled up and the turn-up sewn on. My daughter likes it. So 👍

Ostergeschenktaschen nähen - Sewing Easter Giftbags

Es ist Ostern und die Kinder werden beschenkt. Wir halten das eher klein, es gibt Süßigkeiten, Ostereier und vielleicht ein kleines Geschenk. Schon zu Weihnachten habe ich Geschenkbeutel und -taschen aus Stoff genäht - siehe HIER. Und auch jetzt gibt's kleine Ostergaben für meine Patenkinder in selbst genähten Ostergeschenktaschen. Es wird kein Papier und Klebeband verschwendet und man kann sie weiter verschenken. Der eigene Stoffberg wird weniger und die Tragetaschen sind so schnell genäht und es macht Spaß. Ein Recyclingprojekt wird draus, wenn man die Taschen aus alten Bettlaken, Jeans, Vorhängen oder ähnliches näht. Dann wird noch ein Häschen drauf appliziert und die Bedeutung ist klar. 

It's Easter and the children are getting presents. We keep it small, our gierlie gets some sweets, Easter eggs and maybe a little present. I already sewed fabric gift bags for Christmas - see HERE. And now my godchildren get Easter gifts in self-sewn gift bags. No paper and tape are wasted and they also can be given away as gifts. Your own fabric stash gets less and the tote bags are sewn so quickly and it's fun. It becomes a recycling project if you use old sheets, jeans, curtains or something like that. Put a bunny on it and the meaning is clear. 

Geschenksäcke nähen - Sew Gift Bags

Wiederverwendbare Geschenksäcke sparen Papier, unglaublich viel Klebeband und enorm viele Geschenkbänder

Letztens war ich ziemlich verblüfft als ich meinen Stoffvorrat durchwühlte und eine ganze Menge Weihnachtsstoffe fand. Herrlich! Muss schon viele Jahre her sein, dass ich da mal was draus machen wollte. Keine Ahnung was. Aber jetzt wusste ich es ganz genau. Geschenksäcke aus Stoff sollten es werden. Nicht so kleine niedliche, die man überall zu kaufen bekommt, sondern richtig große. Für die großen sperrigen Geschenke, wo 2 Rollen Papier drauf gehen, wenn man die einpacken will. Die Säcke sind in Minuten genäht. Falls man keine weihnachtlichen Stoffe hat, dann nimmt man was man hat (alte Bettwäsche und Bettlaken) und näht einen Stern (oder viele) drauf. Das sieht immer nach Weihnachten aus. Und damit mein Mann auch Freude dran hat, was zu verpacken, habe ich die Stoffschleife gleich fix am Sack angenäht. Für die kleinen Geschenke, kann man ja das restliche Papier aufbrauchen. Oder wenn man die Geschenke frühzeitig besorgt, passende Säckchen nähen. Ich freue mich sehr über dieses Projekt. Ich habe noch alte Laken, die ich in ganz große Geschenksäcke verwandeln werde. Weiter unten gibt es den tollen 5-zackigen Stern in vielen Größen.

Recently I was quite amazed when I rummaged through my supply of fabric and found a whole bunch of Christmas fabrics. Lovely! It must have been many years since I wanted to make something out of it. I don't remember what. But now I knew exactly. It should be gift bags made of fabric. Not so cute little ones that you can buy everywhere, but really big ones. For the big, bulky gifts that need 2 rolls of paper when you want to wrap them up. They are sewn in minutes. If you don't have any Christmas fabrics, then take what you have (old bed linen and sheets) and sew a star (or many) on it. It always looks like Christmas with a star on it. I sewed the fabric loop onto the sack so that my husband can also enjoy wrapping a gift. You can use up the remaining paper for the small gifts. Or if you craft/get/buy/make the presents early, sew suitable bags. I'm happy about this project, I still have old sheets that I will turn into very large gift bags. Below you can find the lovely 5-pointed star in many sizes.

Recyclingidee für alte Pyjamas

Mein Mann konnte sich mal wieder von uralten Pyjamas trennen. Die waren von hervorragender Qualität und sind waschbar bei 60 Grad. Zu schade sowas wegzuwerfen. Ich nähe sie zusammen und mache daraus eine kuschelige Hundedecke. Ist in 10 Minuten fertig. Der Gummibund wird abgeschnitten und die Hosenbeine mit einem langen Zickzackstich zusammengenäht. Am Oberteil werden die Ärmel an das Oberteil genäht und auch der Halsausschnitt wird zugesteppt, damit nichts reinrutschen kann. Dann werden Oberteil und Hosenteil am Bund zusammen genäht. Das muss wirklich keine schöne Naht werden. Und schon ist das Kuscheltuch für den Hund fertig. Unser Hund hat drei Schlafplätze und schon alle sind mit Knuddeldecken mit Herrchengeruch ausgestattet. Also nach dem letzten Mal tragen, gar nicht waschen, sondern gleich ab aufs Plätzchen. Unser Hund liebt es seine Nase da rein zu graben 🐶

Recycling idea for old pajamas

My husband was able to dump his old pajamas. They were of excellent quality and washable at 60 degrees. Too bad to throw them away. So I stitched them together and made a cozy dog blanket out of them. Done in 10 minutes. Cut off the elastic waistband and sew the pant legs together with a long zigzag stitch. The sleeves are sewn to the top and close the neckline with a stitch so that nothing can slip inside. Then the top and trousers are sewn together at the waistband. It really doesn't have to be a nice seam. And the cuddly blanket for the dog is ready. Our dog has three sleeping places and they are all equipped with cuddly blankets with a dogdaddy odor. So don't wash it after wearing for the last time, just go straight to the dogcave. Our dog loves to dig his nose in there. 

Wimpelkette - Pennant Chain

Eine Freundin hatte mir vor vielen Jahren einige Polstermöbelstoffmusterkarten (keine Ahnung, ob es dieses Wort gibt und ob diese Dinger so heißen) geschenkt. Kürzlich beim Aufräumen (nein eigentlich habe ich ganz was anderes gesucht) wieder gefunden und in den Mülleimer im Nähzimmer geworfen. Tja und nur Minuten oder Stunden später wusste ich genau, was daraus zu machen ist. Und zwar eine Wimpelkette, nicht für mich, sondern genau für die Freundin von der ich sie bekam. Sie hat ihr riesiges Carport (innerhalb des Gartenzaunes offen, gemauert an den zwei Außenseiten, Stellplatz für mindestens zwei Autos und 10 Fahrräder) leergeräumt, weil sie es leid war, bei jedem Regenguss, die leider nicht überdachte Terrasse zu verlassen. Ausgestattet mit Gartengarnitur und alten Sofas und Schränken für Geschirr, sieht es aus wie ein Outdoorwohnzimmer und ist urgemütlich. Dort würde sich die Wimpelkette ganz gut machen. Vielleicht kann ich noch Fotos nachliefern.

Many years ago a friend had given me some upholstery fabric sample cards (I have no idea whether these words exist and whether these things are called that way). Recently while tidying up (no, actually I was looking for something else) found it again and threw it in the garbage can in the sewing room. Well and only minutes or hours later I knew exactly what to do with it. And I made a pennant chain, not for me, but for the friend I got the stuff from. She cleared her huge carport (open inside the garden fence, bricked on the two outer sides, parking space for at least two cars and 10 bicycles) because she was tired of leaving the unfortunately uncovered terrace with every rain shower. Equipped with garden furniture and old sofas and cupboards for dishes, looks like an outdoor living room and is very cozy. The pennant chain would do quite well there. Maybe I can deliver photos later.

Meine Tochter ist jetzt 14 Jahre und im Laufe der Zeit haben sich drei Bademäntel angesammelt. Letztes Wochenende hatte ich sowohl Lust, Zeit als auch Ideen was daraus zu machen. Vorschläge gibt es im Internet ja viele, aber ich brauchte weder Kuscheltiere noch Handtücher. Ich hatte drei Kinderbademäntel und es gingen sich 8 Sachen aus, die wir brauchen können und verwenden.

My daughter is 14 years old now and over time three bathrobes have treasured up. Last weekend I felt like spending time on what to do with it and I already had some ideas. There are many suggestions on the Internet, but I didn't need any cuddly toys or towels. I had three children's robes and 8 things ran out that we could need and use.

Wir haben Hund und Katze und jedesmal vor dem Tierarztbesuch werden die Impfpässe gesucht. Seit Jahren will ich ein Täschchen dafür nähen. Ist ja wohl klar, dass ich das gerade jetzt machen will, wo es wegen Coronavirus Ausgangsbeschränkungen gibt und ich nicht Stoff einkaufen kann. Mal davon abgesehen, dass die Geschäfte geschlossen sind. Ich krieg das seit Tagen nicht aus dem Kopf, also ist kreatives Denken gefragt. Ich kramte die Altkleidersäcke meiner Tochter durch, da mussten doch bestimmt Kätzchen und Hündchen T-Shirts dabei sein. Und so war's auch.

We have a dog and a cat and we always look for their vaccination cards before visiting the vet. I wanted to sew a pouch for this for years. It is clear that I want to do this right now, where there are movement restrictions due to corona virus and I can not buy fabric. Apart from the fact that the shops are closed. I couldn't get this out of my head for days, so creative thinking is required. I rummaged through my daughter's old clothes collection bags, because there must be kittens and doggie T-shirts. And so it was.

Christbaum aus Holz - Wooden Xmas Tree

Ich hab mein Weihnachtsgeschenk schon bekommen. Seit Jahren wünsche ich mir einen Christbaum aus Holzresten und letztens baut mir mein Mann das Teil in 2 Stunden zusammen. Und der Baum ist so schön geworden, ich bin ganz hingerissen. Material hatten wir alles zu Hause herum liegen. Anleitungen gibt's genug im Web. Jetzt steht er im Esszimmer zwischen zwei Türen und zaubert auch hier Weihnachtsstimmung. Geschmückt mit dezenter Lichterkette, meinen gestrickten Sternen (Anleitung im vorherigen Post) und Holzdekoteilen. Noch besser wäre gewesen, wenn er flach an der Wand befestigt wäre, nur geht das bei über 100 Jahren alten Wänden nicht so ohne weiteres. Das würde umfangreiche Gips-, Verputz- und Malerarbeiten nach sich ziehen. Also steht er auf einem süßen kleinen Stockerl (Schemel), den meine Tochter im Werkunterricht gebastelt hat.

I already got my Christmas present. For years, I wish a Christmas tree from wood leftovers and lately, my husband builds the part together in 2 hours. And he made such a beautiful tree, I love it so much. Material we had everything lying around at home. There are enough instructions on the web. Now the tree stands in the dining room between two doors and spreads Christmas atmosphere. Decorated with discreet fairy lights, my knitted stars (instructions in the previous post) and wooden decoration parts. It would have been even better if it were fastened flat to the wall, but that is not so easy with walls that are over 100 years old. That would entail extensive plastering and painting work. So he stands on a sweet little stool, which my daughter has crafted in the workshop at school. 

DIY: Taschentüchertaschen - Paper Tissue Bags

Ich habe zum 1. Mal diese TaTüTas genäht. Ja unglaublich, aber der Sinn dieser Täschchen hat sich mir vor 10 Jahren als sie IN waren nicht erschlossen. Die Taschentücher waren doch schon in hübschen Päckchen verpackt. Und dann vor 2 Wochen hat es bei mir KLICK gemacht, als ich in der Drogerie auch zum 1. Mal eine Packung mit losen Papiertaschentüchern kaufte. Die war auch viel billiger, aber wo sollte ich die in meiner Handtasche hinstecken. AHA in eine Tatüta. Ja so macht das Ganze wieder Sinn. Ich spare Plastik und Geld ein und recycle eine alte Jeans. Gesagt - getan. Und wir lieben sie alle.

I sewed these fabric paper tissue bags for the first time. Yes, unbelievable, but the sense of these pouches did not open up to me 10 years ago when they were in fashion. The handkerchiefs were already packed in nice packages. And then, two weeks ago, it made CLICK in the drugstore, when I  bought a package of loose paper tissues also for the first time. It was much cheaper, but where should I put it in my handbag? AHA in a fabric paper tissue bag. Yes, now that makes sense. I save plastic and money and recycle old jeans. A word and a blow. And we love them all. 

Neue Aufgabe für Griller - New Job for Barbecue Grill

Mein Mann bekam einen neuen Griller geschenkt und just in dem Moment, wo wir den alten entsorgen wollten, hatte ich eine Idee. Es war Anfang Juli und es war unglaublich heiß. Ich überlegte, eine Vogeltränke zu installieren. Verfolger meiner Instagram-Seite wissen, dass ich die Tränke zuerst in einen Baum gehängt habe. Fand ich dann aber nicht so gut, weil Reinigung und Wassertausch umständlich war. Außerdem musste auch mein Hauswurztopf ausgelichtet werden. Und schon war sie da, die Griller-Hauswurztopf-Vogelbad-Kombination.

My husband was given a new barbecue and just in the moment we wanted to dump the old one, I had an idea. It was early July and it was incredibly hot. I considered installing a birdbath. Followers of my Instagram site know that I first hung the pot in a tree. But I didn't find it so good, because cleaning and water exchange was awkward. In addition, my sempervivum pot had to be redone. And there it was, the barbecue grill-houseleek-birdbath-combination. 

Ärmel ab - Sleeves Off

Die Arme meines Mädchens werden immer länger, sonst bleibt sie aber gleich dünn. Ihre Winter Shirts passen zwar am Körper, aber die Ärmel sind alle zu kurz. Daher Ärmel ab und T-Shirts draus gemacht. Die kurzen Ärmel hätte ich zwar säumen können, aber mir spukte schon länger so eine Flechttechnik im Kopf herum. Gebt in der Suchmaschine die Stichwörter 'T-Shirt' und 'Upcycling' ein und schon habt ihr viele Beispiele wie man es macht. Ohne nähen! Meine Süße ist jedenfalls begeistert, so gefällt ihr das. Zweites Leben für schöne Shirts.

The arms of my girlie are getting longer and longer but stays slim. Although her winter shirts fit on the body, the sleeves are all too short. Therefore, off sleeves and get T-shirts. I could have hemmed the short sleeves, but I've had another idea in my head, a weaving technique. Enter the keywords T-Shirt and Upcycling in the search engine and you'll have lots of examples of how to do it. Without sewing! Anyway, my sweetheart is thrilled, so she likes that. Second life for nice shirts. 

DIY Slipeinlagen - DIY Panty Liners

Ich bin so zufrieden und glücklich mit dem Ergebnis, dass ich euch unbedingt darüber berichten muss, auch wenn das Thema im wahrsten Sinne des Wortes schlüpfrig ist. Es geht um ein Frauenhygieneprodukt, nämlich die Slipeinlage. Ich verwende täglich eine Slipeinlage, aber erst seit meine Tochter (12) diese Produkte auch benötigt, sehe ich wieviel Müll wir produzieren. Außerdem habe ich das (subjektive) Gefühl, dass ich zunehmend mit Juckreiz zu kämpfen habe. Wenn man dann noch liest, dass Baumwolle das mit Pestziden am meisten belastete Produkt ist, dann will ich, dass meine Tochter andere Wege geht und kennen lernt. Ich muss gleich vorweg schicken, dass ich nur auf der Suche nach einer Slipeinlage war und nicht nach einer Binde.

I'm so pleased and happy with the result that I need to tell you about it, even if the topic is something juicy. It's about a women hygiene product, namely the panty liner. I use panty liners daily, but only since my daughter (12) needs these products too, I can see how much waste we produce. In addition, I have the (subjective) feeling that I am increasingly struggling with itching. If you then read that cotton is the most contaminated product with pesticides, then I want my daughter to go and get to know other ways. Waschbare Küchentücher - Unpaper Towels

Schon seit ewig will ich meine Küchenrolle aus Papier einsparen. Obwohl wir auch genug Lappen haben, wurde immer schnell ein Stück Papier runter gerissen. Alles Reden half bei meinen Beiden nichts, also schaltete ich auf kalten Entzug. Aus dem Jahre Schnee hatte ich noch so einen schrecklichen Rollenhalter aus Plastik in der Küche. Auf den Stiel wo man die Rolle draufsteckt, fädelte ich übrig gebliebene Ringe vom Duschvorhang und Vorhangklipse auf. Daran hängte ich alte Lätzchen, Waschlappen und Minihandtücher (meine persönliche Vorgabe lautet immer: Verwenden was im Haus ist), außerdem auch unsere Handygarage. Ein paar Tage wurde noch gemault und den Papiertüchern nachgetrauert, aber dann brauchte sie keiner mehr. Habe ich mal ganz was Ekliges zum Aufwischen wie Dinge, die aus Haustieren vorne und hinten aus Versehen im Haus rauskommen, dann verwende ich Papier von Postwurfsendungen (Werbeflugblätter und Gratis-Zeitungsexemplare). Wenn man das zuerst fest zusammen knüllt, wird es geschmeidiger. So kann man die festen Bestandteile entfernen und der Rest wird mit Bodenwischtüchern entfernt.

Since a long time I've wanted to avoid paper rolls in my kitchen. Although we also have enough cloth, a piece of paper was always easier to use. All talking to my girlie and hubby was useless, so I opted for cold turkey. I still had a terrible plastic roll holder in the kitchen. On the stick where you put the roll, I hang on leftover shower curtain rings and curtain clip hanger. To this I hung old bibs, washcloths and mini-hand towels (my personal requirement is always: Use what is in the house), as well as our DIY Cell PhoneHolder. A few days I still heard some mourning about the loss of paper towels, but then they did not need any more. Do I have to wipe something quite disgusting such as things which come out front and back of our pets by accident in the house, then I use paper from door drops (ad flyer and free newspaper samples). If you crush it first, it becomes more supple. So you can remove the solid parts and the rest with floor cloths. 

Rautendecke - Diamond Blanket

Taadaaa! Meine Frau Schulz Decke ist fertig. Sie war gedacht als Resteverwertungsprojekt und genau das ist auch geglückt. 1,5 kg Wolle ist darin verstrickt und sie ist 106 x 176 cm groß. Die Decke wandert in den Besitz meiner Tochter über und zum Glück ist sie auch ganz begeistert.

Taadaaa! My knitted diamond blanket is done. It was meant as a yarn remnants destruction project and that is exactly what happened. 1.5 kg (3.31 lb) of wool is entangled in it and it is 106 x 176 cm (41,73 x 69,29 in) in size. The blanket migrates into the possession of my daughter and fortunately she is also very enthusiastic. 

Batiken - Tie Dye

Wir haben eine große überdachte Terrasse, die südost-seitig liegt und sich im Sommer ziemlich aufheizt. Für die zwei Dachflächen, die über dem Sitzplatz liegen, habe ich schon vor einigen Jahren zwei alte weiße Bettlaken passend zugeschnitten und in himmelblau eingefärbt. Im Laufe der Zeit sind die Sonnensegel fast weiß ausgebleicht. Zeit also wieder zum Farbtopf zu greifen.

We have a large covered terrace facing south-east which gets very hot in the summer. For the two roof panels, which lie above the seating area, I have already cut two old white bed sheets in form a few years ago and tie-dyed in sky blue. In the course of time, the sun shades have almost become white. Time to use the color pot.

Rock aus alten Lieblingsshirts - Skirt from Old Favorite Shirts

Die Schwalben sind da, seit gestern Abend. Leider haben sie den Sommer nicht mitgebracht. Aber ich wollte euch eigentlich erzählen, dass ich einen Rock aus zu kleinen Lieblingsshirts meiner Tochter genäht habe. Als Schnittmuster diente das Rockteil des Sunje-Schnittes. Der ist wunderbar unterteilt und eignet sich hervorragend zum Resteverbrauch.

The swallows are here since last night. Unfortunately they did not bring the summer with them. Well, actually I wanted to tell you that I have sewn a skirt from my daughter's favorite old shirts. The skirt pattern is part of the Sunje dress pattern. It is wonderfully divided and is perfect to use up old jersey shirts.
