Insel Pag, Kroatien - Pag Island, Croatia

Obwohl ich im Sommer nicht gerne in den Süden verreise (wegen der Hitze, die ich nicht gut vertrage), haben mich meine zwei Lieben zu einer weiteren Reise (im Juli waren wir in Grado, Italien) ans Meer überredet. Kurzfristig im Internet gesucht und gebucht, war die Auswahl schon sehr beschränkt, aber wir haben ein nettes Appartment in Novalja auf der Insel Pag gefunden. 

Although I don't like travelling south in the summer (because of the heat, which I don't tolerate well), my two loved ones persuaded me to go on another trip to the seaside (we were in Grado, Italy in July). We searched and booked online at short notice, but the choice was very limited but we found a nice apartment in Novalja on the island of Pag. 

Ich war schon öfter in Kroatien, aber meistens eher auf Istrien, das ja sehr grün ist. Die Insel Pag gleicht einer Mondlandschaft. Hier könnte auch der Mars-Rover fahren und realistische Bilder liefern. Also ich fand es sehr interessant. Sobald man wieder auf dem Festland war, war die Landschaft wieder grün. 

I have been to Croatia several times, but mostly to Istria, which is very green. The island of Pag is like a lunar landscape. The Mars rover could drive here and provide realistic images. I found it very interesting. As soon as you were back on the mainland, the landscape was green again. 

Leider hatte es in dieser Woche vorort bis zu 39,5 Grad und ich war sehr dankbar für die Klimaanlagen im Appartment und Auto. Tagsüber haben wir die Gegend erkundet und auch Ausflüge aufs Festland und nach Zadar gemacht. Zum Strand ging es dann erst am späten Nachmittag. Die Hitze tat mir leider ganz und gar nicht gut, aber die paar Tage habe ich durchgehalten und mir und meiner Familie geschworen, keine Reisen mehr in den Süden im Hochsommer zu machen. 

Zadar ist eine bezaubernde kleine Stadt an der dalmatinischen Küste und ist bekannt für die römischen und venezianischen Ruinen in der auf einer Halbinsel gelegenen Altstadt. An den Stadtmauern liegen mehrere venezianische Tore. 
Zadar is a charming little town on the Dalmatian coast and is known for the Roman and Venetian ruins in the old town, which is located on a peninsula. There are several Venetian gates on the city walls.

Unfortunately, it was up to 39.5 degrees (103 F) that week and I was very grateful for the air conditioning in the apartment and car. During the day we explored the area and also made trips to the mainland and to Zadar. We didn't go to the beach until late in the afternoon. Unfortunately, the heat didn't do me any good, but I stuck it out for a few days and swore to myself and my family that I would never travel south again in the height of summer. 

Der Strand (Kies) und das Wasser waren herrlich. Nicht so prickelnd fand ich, dass es sehr schwer war ins Wasser zu gelangen, wegen der großen felsigen Steine. Trotz Badeschuhe war es sehr mühsam. Aber wenn man mal im Wasser war, konnte man stundenlang planschen, weil es so warm war. 

Der Urlaub hat dennoch viele Punkte abgehakt, die wir lieben: Roadtrip, total andere Landschaft als zuhause, sehr gutes Essen, viele gemeinsame Erlebnisse und neue Erkenntnisse, Befriedigung der Sehnsucht nach Meer (Österreich ist ja ein Binnenland), Sightseeing. 

The beach (pebbles) and the water were wonderful. What I didn't like so much was that it was very difficult to get into the water because of the large rocky stones. Even with bathing shoes on, it was tricky. But once you were in the water, you could splash around for hours because it was so warm.

The holiday still ticked off a lot of points that we love: road trip, totally different landscape to home, very good food, lots of shared experiences and new discoveries, satisfying our longing for the sea (Austria is a landlocked country), Sightseeing.
