I am pleased with my Christmas cactus (schlumbergera) that it first has decided to bloom again after two years and that secondly at the right time to Christmas. Last year the plant has quite a lot of buds on Easter then all fell off. At this point I must confess that my relationship to houseplants is an ambivalent one. I love them too much say I pour them to death. If I get potted plants I always try to encourage them to return next year to bloom (if they should live that long). Some pots are drawn by florists that they bloom only once at the time of purchase and then you can compost them properly. But I always try to nurse them. And I've learned that you can forget it for primroses (primula). The potted primroses do not come back. I plant them after flowering in the garden, but even if I plant red, fuchsia and purple primroses in the earth, always come out only yellow. But they are also beautiful in spring ;)

ReplyDeleteYay for flowering cacti! I'm the opposite, I tend to forget to water plants... my mum has a green thumb and always has the most awesome plants and flowers... I am such a disaster!
ReplyDeleteI'm waiting for some cookbooks from Amazon too, can't wait!
How recognizable. I, too, have plants that sometimes bloom, and then other years, they just try to survive... Definately no green fingers here... Grtz, Rozemie
ReplyDeleteI can't believe that you got it to bloom a second time. My Christmas Cactus only ever bloomed once. But it did last forever (years) .... So I guess I shouldn't complain to much. :)
ReplyDeleteThank you for joining in for Fresh-Cut Friday!!
Merry Christmas!
~Liz
I love Christmas cacti, too!!! I recently bought one for a basket. I will be posting about it soon.
ReplyDeleteI am visiting from Liz's Fresh Cut Fridays!
