My husband gave me a well-worn 20 years old terryclothpyjama for further use. Since the quality of the material is still excellent and very hot washable, it was clear that I would use it for a blankie for our doggie. Our doggie is called Benno (9 years) and he has 3 sleeping berths, his doghut built by my husband in the driveway and his nest on the terrace and in winter in the kitchen in front of the heating. So I need alot of stuff for nest-building. Since we also have an outdoor cat or garden cat, which sometimes brings home vermin (because I missed the spot-on date), it is important to me that I can wash all the mats and blankets as hot as possible and the stuff must fit into the washing machine.
So what do you do: Cut off the elastic waistband and then you simply sew together all loose parts with zigzag stitch. The sleeves to the top, the trousers legs together and then also the pants part to the shirt part. And please also sew the neckline together, so that nothing can creep inside. And done is a big cuddly blanket.
I also use all old towels and bedclothes in this way and sew them together to compact blankets. Benno has his own nest collection. I always say "nest" because he shuffles his mats and blankets until he has built a nest to his satisfaction :)
Have a nice day!
Liebe Petra,

Awwww Petra! How cute! I didn't know you had Benno. What a little cutie and what a great idea. My two dogs love making 'nests' too. You really have to wonder what they're up to because it's no different to what they started with when they finally do settle! Thanks so much for linking this post up last week. I'm featuring it at tomorrow's party.

DeleteLovely idea! Thanks for sharing with us at the To grandma's house we go Wednesday link party! Hope to see you there tomorrow!
ReplyDeleteThank you! See you there.
DeleteAwwwww, that's adorable Petra, they're friends. Great recycle of the pajama, I'm sure Benno loves it, especially since it was worn by hubby for so many years. Isn't it strange how some fur babies make nests out of their blankets. We have a little sausage dog that does exactly the same thing. She'll go round and round in circles until she's happy and then run into the bedroom to grab one shoe and come back and cuddle up in her nest. Thank you so much for sharing
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by and telling us your lovely story :)
