I don't like Carnival. Not this exaggerated foolishness. Certainly not Carnival on TV. There is nothing more mopey than watching others having fun on TV. Also applies to dance balls on TV (ie opera ball). My daughter (13) is now a teenager and not any longer interested in dressing up. At school, however, the class decided to disguise themselves together according to a motto, namely football and cheerleader. Oookaaaaay!
For sure, I don't buy a polyester costume Made in China (or from anywhere else). Reason: You sweat like hell and the fabric is easily flammable. The class agreed on the color green and after a bit of research, I sewed the skirt myself.

How to sew a cheerleader skirt?
We went shopping and found T-shirts on sale in green, 100% cotton, made in Europe. Without labelling would have been better, but we both liked the quote immediately.
1. You buy (unless you have the color matching shirts at home) 2 T-shirts, one fits properly to wear, the other in the largest size, which serves as a kind of fabric for the skirt. And you need as well a big white T-shirt (I took an old one of my husband's).
2. The big green shirt and the white T-shirt are cut off under the armhole. Also cut a part for the waistband or you use the remnants to make a waistband. I opted for a green waistband and took the hem, because the tube for the rubber band was already there.
3. Then cut both the green and the white shirt in equal parts and sew them together alternately. The result is a long longitudinally striped tube.
4. On one side, which is then above, aka the waistband, the green parts are stitched together about 7 cm (approx. 3 inches) just at the edge. And so that the white part is completely inside. On the top you can see now only green fabric.

So geht's weiter:
8. Fertig!

5. That's the way it should look now. At the top you have virtually banished the white fabric inside and sewn the green parts some inches together.
6. The white parts are pulled apart inside, with the outer seam in the middle. In this way, further down the pleats pop up and the skirt gets its width. First I fixed the pleats with needles and then sewed around with zigzag stitches.
7. Then sew on the waistband and pull in the elastic band. And sew around the hem.
8. Done!

In addition, you can find enough instructions on the internet how to make pompoms without much effort and skill. My girlie is happy and the T-shirt can be worn any time because it's pretty cool.

I wish you a nice and funny Shrove Tuesday today 🎭
