Yesterday I realized that I have over 300 blog follower. Yippee! I am delighted that so many people are interested in my blog. Thank you! Your blogs are so much inspiration for me. Every single site is so personal, creative and surprising. Crochet Flower Chain - Häkelblumenkette

Momentan stehe ich ja auf Häkeln! Und hab da neulich eine Anleitung für eine Häkelkette gefunden. Das musste ich gleich mal ausprobieren. Zuerst häkelt man in Grün Blumenmitte, Blätter und Kette in einem Stück solange man sie haben will. Dann häkelt man noch die Blütenblätter in den Farben, die man haben will. Das ist super zum Wollreste aufbrauchen. Ich hatte nur Reste mit hohem Wollanteil und hatte mir die Kette mal um den Hals gewickelt, wärmte sehr schön, muss im Winter toll sein. Aber angenehmer zu tragen ist es sicher in Baumwolle. Das ist jetzt eine Spielkette für meine Kleine (4 J.), aber man kann das auch zum Aufpeppen eines Geschenkes verwenden, als Deko für Fenster, Tisch, Vorhangstangen. Ach ja, und es ist in etwa 2 Stunden fertig! 

Diese Anleitung gibt's leider nicht mehr online, aber auf Crochet Pattern Central gibt es jede Menge Anleitungen für Blumen. Ich habe auch zwei Seiten gefunden, wo Häkel- und Strickbegriffe auf Deutsch und Englisch erklärt werden: maschenzähler designs, wolleunddesign

Right now I'm into crocheting! And recently I found a tutorial for a crochet flower chain. I had to test it. First you crochet with green yarn the middle of flowers, leaves and chain in one piece as long as you want them. Then you crochet the petals in colors you like. This is great to use up your wool remnants. I only had remains with high wool content and I wrapped the chain around my neck, very nicely warmed, it must be great in winter. But it is certainly more comfortable to wear a chain made of cotton. The chain is now a game for my girlie (4y), but you can also use it to spice up a gift, as a decoration for windows, table, curtain rods. Oh, and it is done in about 2 hours!

I didn't find a tutorial in english but maybe you find some instructions on Crochet Pattern Central. But I found two sites, where basic crochet terms are translated from english to german and vice versa: maschenzähler designs, wolleunddesign

Ich habe schon öfter im Internet gesehen, dass aus alten nicht mehr gebrauchten Dingen neue gemacht werden. Das hat mich schon immer fasziniert, daher wollte ich das selber mal ausprobieren. Die Idee, aus Plastiksackerl Garn zu machen, ist nicht von mir und anlässlich des "Earth Day" griff ich zur Schere.

Dieser Tag soll mich dazu anregen, die Art meines Konsumverhaltens zu überdenken. Nun das tut er. Ich mache schon einiges um dazu beizutragen, dass es unsere Welt noch länger gibt. Vor allem regionale Produkte und Biowaren einkaufen. Aber es gibt immer was zu verbessern oder aus Fehlern zu lernen (siehe die fatale Palmöl-Biosprit Geschichte).

This day should inspire me to rethink the nature of my consumption patterns. Well it does. I've been doing a lot to help ensure that there is our world any longer. Above all, buy local products and organic food. But there is always something to improve or learn from mistakes (look at the fatal palm oil - biofuelstory).

Granny Squares - Häkelquadrate

Momentan steh ich auf Häkeln! Mein Ding ist ja eher die Nähmaschine, das geht ratz fatz. Aber ich hab da so eine schöne Häkeltasche irgendwo im Web gesehen und da hab ich mal meine Wollreste zusammengesucht. Die schnellste bin ich nicht, um nicht zu sagen schneckenhaft. Eine Woche und mal 4 Quadrate! Aber man kann es schön vorm Fernseher machen. 

Currently I love crocheting! Normally I am working with the sewing machine, that's fast and speedy. But I have seen an adorable Granny Square purse in the net and I started searching for my wool leavings. Unfortunately I am slow like a snail. I needed one week for 4 squares! The good thing is that you can do it while watching TV.

Tunisian Bowl - Tunesische Schüssel

Nun, ich habe mehrere. Aber heute will ich über diese kleine süße Schüssel erzählen. Ich habe sie von meiner besten Freundin Uschi bekommen. Sie hat sie von einem Tunesienurlaub mit ihrem Freund mitgebracht, gekauft auf einem Basar. Sie fährt das erste Mal mit ihrem relativ neuen Freund auf Urlaub und denkt dabei auch an ihre alte Freundin. Toll, nicht? Lustigerweise hat sie von diesem Urlaub auch ein Geschenk mitgebracht, das sie 9 Monate später auspackte. Hihi! Aber jetzt sind schon 12 Jahre vergangen, sie hat geheiratet und weitere 2 Kinder bekommen. 

Well, I have several. But today I will talk about this little cute bowl. My best friend Uschi gave it to me. She was in Tunisia on vacation with her new friend. She bought it on a bazaar. Wasn't that sweet of her thinking of her old friend at home. The funny thing is that she also brought a gift home that she unpack 9 months later herself. Hihi! That was 12 years ago, she got married and 2 more kids.

Ich glaube ziemlich viele von euch haben "Das kleine Ich bin Ich" schon gebastelt. Mich hat es auch getroffen. Im Kindergarten wurde das Kindertheater aufgeführt und die Bastelaufgabe ging sich im KIGA nicht mehr rechtzeitig aus. Also haben alle Eltern (sprich wir Mütter) die Hausaufgabe bekommen, das "Kleine Ich bin Ich" zu basteln. Ist mir ganz gut geglückt, nur ist mein Tierchen so kopflastig geworden, dass es immer auf die Nase fällt. 

I think many of you have already tinkered the "Little I am I am". So did I too. There will be a children's theater in the kindergarten who will play this book. The teacher wanted to tinker the little animal but they couldn't manage it in the short time. So, all parents (let's say we mothers) get the homework to do it. I did it very well but my animals head have become so top heavy that it always falls on the nose.
Story: The small colourful animal does not know what it is. It asks the frog, the horse mother and her child, a fish, a hippopotamus, a parrot, and dogs, but none of these animals could tell it what it was. When it was in despair it realised, "I am me!”

A Tidy House, A Tidy Mind - Ordnung ist das halbe Leben

Manchmal reicht's! Die DVDs meiner Kleinen sind überall dort zu finden, wo ich sie gar nicht haben will. Daher hab ich schnell eine dieser praktischen Utensilo Taschen gemacht. Ich liebe diese Taschenkörbchen! So jetzt kann die Kleine ihre DVDs alleine schön beisammen halten! Hoffentlich!

You know the situation! The stuff of the kids can be find everywhere in the house except in their playroom. Just collected all the DVDs of my girlie and had the idea of making one of those handy fabric bags with handles. I love these fabric totes! I hope it is easier now for my girlie to tidy up her DVD collection.

Beim Schneeball machen, hat sich der ganze Schnee vom Rasen gerollt. Der Rest ist in der Mittagssonne geschmolzen. Jetzt steht der arme Schneemann ganz allein auf der grünen Wiese.

Making the snowballs for the snowman we used all snow on the lawn, the rest melted in the sun at noon. Now  poor snowman stands alone on the green meadow.

Frozen Flowers - Gefrorene Blüten

Meine Kleine pflückt gerne Blumen und wie Kinder das so machen, sie zupfen eigentlich nur die Köpfe ab. Also hab ich die Gänseblümchen und Primelköpfchen in eine kleine Wasserschüssel gegeben und draußen auf den Terrassentisch gestellt, weil es ja eigentlich vor 2 Tagen noch warm und schön war. Aber über Nacht kam alles anders, minus 4°C und 5 cm Schnee. Tja, dann sah das so aus! Auch schön, oder?

My girlie loves picking flowers or better she headed the flowers. So we put them into a bowl with water and decorated the garden table. Two days ago it was warm and sunny but overnight the temperatures fell to 24 F und it snowed 2 in high. And there you see the result! Lovely, isn't it?

Final Harvest - Die letzte Ernte

I finally harvested my sprouts. Now the last garden year is over and the new one has already started. 
Endlich habe ich die letzten Kohlsprossen geerntet. Jetzt ist das Gartenjahr wirklich vorbei und das neue hat schon begonnen.

Well, it doesn't look very much like spring at all, does it? This is our little summer house in the garden. It is over 100 years old and there is a half moon on the roof, it is a remembrance of the devastations through the Ottoman Empire in the year 1529. In this year was the Siege of Vienna and our village is south of Vienna.

Nach Frühling schaut es leider noch gar nicht aus. Das ist unser kleiner Gartenpavillon. Er ist über 100 Jahre alt und windschief. Auf der Fahnenspitze prangt ein türkischer Halbmond, der an die Verwüstungen durch das Osmanische Heer im Jahre 1529 erinnert. In diesem Jahr fand die Erste Wiener Türkenbelagerung statt und unser Ort liegt südlich von Wien.

Leckere Nussecken

Ich habe schon lange ein Rezept gesucht, in dem ich unsere Walnüsse verarbeiten kann. Wir haben einen riesigen Walnussbaum im Garten, der Jahr für Jahr zuverlässig zwei große Jutesäcke Nüsse abwirft. Einen Sack verschenke ich meistens, der andere steht ein Jahr herum und dann schenke ich ihn einer Bekannten, die die Vögel damit füttert. Aber jetzt ist Schluss damit, ich habe ein tolles Rezept gefunden. 
Ich hab's zwar ein bisschen abgeändert, in der Hinsicht, dass ich einen fertigen Mürbteig gekauft habe und ich habe die Ecken nicht in Schokolade getunkt, sondern einfach vom Löffel drüber rinnen lassen. Ich hatte noch einen Rest dunkle Sachertortenschokoglasur und das andere ist helle Vollmilchschokoglasur. 

Schmeckt echt lecker! Noch kleiner geschnitten, wäre das auch super für die Weihnachtsbäckerei!

Nachtrag: Ich muss sagen, dass die Nussecken jetzt einen Tag später noch besser schmecken als frisch. Der Mürbteig entfaltet sein tolles Aroma und der Belag ist heute schön weich. Also ein super Gebäck zum Vorbereiten am Vortag. Das wird ja immer besser!

Eine Tasche für Frau Blume

Irgendwie hatte ich das Gefühl, dass Frau Blume eine Tasche braucht. Nach Häkeln war mir nicht, also hab ich eine gestrickt. Dann sollten da noch Blumen dran. So fertig! 
Somehow I felt that my bunny needs a bag. I was not in the mood to crochet, so I knitted one. Then there should be flowers. So done!

Und jetzt kann Frau Blume auch schön bummeln gehen!

Children's Carnival - Kinderfasching

My girlie was on a carnival party with her best friend Lara who is since Jan 10th my godchild too. It was so fun! Lots of games, music, dance, candies and donuts which we call Faschingskrapfen.

Meine Kleine war auf einer Faschingsparty mit ihrer besten Freundin Lara, die seit kurzem auch mein Patenkind ist. Die beiden fanden es total lustig. Spiele, Süßigkeiten, Tanzen, Musik und Faschingskrapfen. Was will man mehr?

Am I a tree-hugger? - Bin ich ein Öko-Freak?

Even though it is getting harder, I still love to be green. I always was a kind of collecting freak. As kid I had problems to throw things away, package paper, ribbons, boxes, fabric leavings, etc. As adult it was clear that I separate garbage, glass, paper, metal, no question. And easy to do. But nowadays it is getting hard to manage your everyday life and stay green. We are required to regard some measures for a better environment.

1. Waste separation

2. Save energy and water

3. Buy products of your home country

4. When buying patriotically, buy regional, support local business

5. When buying international, pay attention to child labour, fair trade and no support for countries which have a dictatorship

6. Don't eat food, which is chemical, imported, on a red list, illegal, transported around the world

7. Use things twice or more often (i.e. plastic bags, give clothes to another person, give your magazines to a friend or two)

8. When electrical devices are broken, do not throw it away, but let them repair

9. Do not support businesses and companies which pollute environment

And now there is this issue with our climate, which indicates new points.

10. Don't buy things which are bad for climate (high production efforts)

11. Do things which are good for climate (i.e. no use of elevator and car; full load of dishwaher and washing machines, take a shower not a bath)

I am sure I have forgotten a hundreds things, but often I have a guilty conscience about breaking any of the listed measures. I am a mother, I want to and have to be an example, I want to do my stint to make a better future for my child or at least try not to make it worse. But I don't know if people can imagine how hard it is for a housewife to buy the right stuff in the supermarket. Where does the food come from? Is it biological? Are this chicken or that turckey treated well as long as they were alive? Is there too much salt in this sausage? Is this pure cheese or the chemical stuff? Are these eggs from caged chicken? Was this steak once happy?

I do not think that I am an eco-wacko. I do my best, I try my best, but sometimes...

Auch wenn es immer schwieriger wird, ich liebe es noch grün zu handeln. Ich war immer eine Art Sammel-Freak. Als Kind hatte ich Probleme, Dinge wegzuwerfen, Papier, Bänder, Schachteln, Stoffreste, etc. Als Erwachsener war es klar, dass ich Müll, Glas, Papier, Metall trenne, keine Frage. Aber heutzutage ist es immer schwerer, den Alltag zu managen und grün zu bleiben. Wir werden dazu angehalten, einige Maßnahmen für eine bessere Umwelt zu beachten. 
1. Abfall-Trennung 
2. Energie und Wasser sparen
3. Kaufen Sie Produkte aus Ihrem Heimatland 
4. Beim Kauf patriotisch denken, kaufen Sie bei regionalen, lokalen Unternehmen 
5. Beim Kauf aus dem Ausland, achten Sie auf Kinderarbeit, fairen Handel und keine Unterstützung für Länder, die eine Diktatur haben 
6. Verzehren Sie keine Lebensmittel, die chemisch, importiert, illegal sind, auf einer roten Liste stehen, und um die Welt transportiert werden 
7. Verwenden Sie die Dinge zweimal oder öfter (z.B. Plastiktüten, geben Sie Kleidung an eine andere Person, Ihre Zeitschriften an einen Freund weiter) 
8. Wenn elektrische Geräte defekt sind, nicht wegwerfen, sondern reparieren lassen
9. Keine Unterstützung für Unternehmen, die die Umwelt verschmutzen

Und jetzt gibt es noch dieses Klima-Problem, das neue Punkte aufzeigt. 
10. Kaufen Sie keine Dinge, die schlecht für das Klima sind (hohe Produktionskosten) 
11. Dinge tun, die gut für das Klima sind (z.B. keine Verwendung von Lift und Auto; vollen Geschirrspüler und Waschmaschine, eine Dusche nehmen und kein Vollbad)

Ich bin sicher, ich habe ein hunderte Dinge vergessen, aber oft habe ich ein schlechtes Gewissen die aufgeführten Maßnahmen zu vernachlässigen. Ich bin Mutter, ich will und muss ein Beispiel sein. Ich möchte meinen Beitrag leisten, um eine bessere Zukunft für mein Kind zu ermöglichen oder zumindest versuchen, es nicht noch schlimmer zu machen. Aber ich weiß nicht, ob Leute können sich vorstellen, wie schwer es für eine Hausfrau ist, im Supermarkt korrekt einzukaufen. Wo kommt das Essen her? Ist es biologisch? Sind dieses Huhn oder der Truthahn gut behandelt worden, als sie noch lebten? Ist zu viel Salz in dieser Wurst? Ist das reiner Käse oder das chemische Zeug? Sind diese Eier aus Käfighaltung? War dieses Steak einmal glücklich? Ich glaube nicht, dass ich ein Öko-Freak bin. Ich gebe mein Bestes, versuche ich mein Bestes, aber manchmal ...

Me and my Dog! My Dog and Me?

We have a difficult relationship. I 'inherited' our dog Benno from my brother, because his wife began to work full time and Benno was alone the whole day. Poor! He was six months old and even though I knew I had to do all work with that dog I agreed to take him. He was cute, he was sweet, he had a temper like a rubber ball and he had bad manners. So my husband went to dogschool with him. Benno passed the exam as best. He knew exactly what to do in dogschool, but at home he had forgotten everything. In the garden or in the street he cannot remember any commands, he ignores you and he buggers off.

But he is an absolutely darling with my daughter, she was 2,5 years old when Benno came and they were bosom buddies at once. She can do anything to him, he just let it happen or he goes away and hide. He never ever made dog dirt in the house and he is very obedient inside. And he puts on guard. Smart burglars hopefully pick another house to rob. 

Why has Fire such a Power of Attraction?

It's getting cold outside and my husband and me are eager to prepare everything - paper, wood, matches - for making fire in our fireplace in the house. We have these huge old Viennese tiled stoves, so you cannot really see the fire. 

But I know there is fire in the oven and it is getting warmer in the room, in the house and even in my heart. It is a kind of magic! Light a candle or a fire in the garden and absolutely everybody wants to be close the light and the warmth. Amazing! It is the same with water, but that story I tell another time.

So I hope all of you find a warm and cosy place at home in this time when it is getting colder and darker.

I just LOVE applejuice

We have a very large garden with lots of appletrees. When we moved in our house with this garden we were overextended with all the fruits. The first year we gave the apples away, I made applesauce and I baked hundreds of apple pie, we almost hated apple pie after some weeks. And there are still so many apples left, which were rotten after some time. So my husband decided to get a squeezer the next year. That was one of his best ideas. We collect the apples and squeezes the best, purest and biological applejuice ever. Average we get 100 litre/22 gallone juice. We heat it and fill it in bottles. That is work for some hours but we got applejuice for at least one year and we don't have a guilty conscience about throwing something to eat away or let it rotten.

Get Some Spirituality In Our Everyday Life

Some find it when drinking tea, cleaning bathrooms or windows, baking cookies, doing yoga, but I find my little bit spirituality when sitting on the riding mower. I have time to think or not to think, I can hear nothing (because the mower is very loud), nobody can talk to me, nobody disturbes me. It is my time alone with me. At least one valuable hour. Even my little daughter leaves me alone. The only thing I have to pay attention are the molehills and low-lying branches. On the mower I have my best ideas, my mind spreads, I can hear the universe. Isn't that the coolest thing!

My baby girl is 4 - Happy Birthday

Oh my god, where is the time? Yesterday she was born, today she is 4 years old. I can't believe it. I am so proud, because she is the best girl, best daughter, best everything. 

We had a big birthdayparty on Sunday and today there is partytime in the kindergarden.

I made a cake looking like a pirates ship. My husband and I always saying: "We don't have a princess, we got a pirate."

It needs 26 parts to be a Bunny

Heute nähe ich ein neues Häschen und ich habe ein Foto von allen Teilen gemacht, die man braucht. 26 Teile, richtig zusammengenäht, noch eine Schleife dazu (Teil 27) - et voila, wenn alles OK geht, dann gibt's morgen einen brandneuen Schlappohrhasen. 

Today I am making a new bunny and I took a picture of all fabric parts, which are necessary to be a bunny one time. 26 single fabric parts, sewn together in the right way, add a bow, which is part 27 - et voila, if everything goes OK tomorrow a brandnew bunny will appear.

I am happy to go to the dentist

Yes, I confess I love going to the dentist. The idea of having a hole in my teeth or getting caries is that awful to me, that I am glad to visit the dentist every six months. Today I get my teeth cleaned - oral hygiene (do not know if that is the correct term). But afterwards I was reliefed to have done it.

That's an X-ray of my daughter's teeth. She has now dental braces.
