12tel Blick 2023 - November

Die letzten paar Tage wurde es ziemlich kalt und es hat etwas geschneit, aber bis dahin war der November sehr mild und nass. Ich habe ein Foto von der Mitte des Monats gewählt, da hat sich mein Mann durch das Laub gewühlt und hauptsächlich die Walnussblätter eingesammelt. Walnussblätter enthalten hohe Mengen an Gerbstoffen, die und der Lichtmangel durch die Größe der Blätter beeinträchtigen das Gras darunter, daher lassen wir es nicht liegen. Das Laub der anderen Bäume kann auf der Streuobstwiese liegen bleiben, das wird im Frühjahr bei der ersten Mahd gemulcht. 

The last few days it got pretty cold and there was some snow, but until then November had been very mild and wet. I chose a photo from the middle of the month when my husband was digging through the leaves and collecting mainly the walnut leaves. Walnut leaves contain high amounts of tannins, which and the lack of light due to the size of the leaves affect the grass underneath, so we don't leave it lying around. The leaves of the other trees can be left on the orchard; they will be mulched during the first mowing in spring. 

Madeira

Unseren Jahresurlaub haben wir auf der portugiesischen Atlantik-Insel Madeira verbracht. Eine traumhaft schöne Insel, wenn man auf Natur, Wandern, Pflanzen, Essen und Wein steht. Madeira ist ein steiler Fels im Ozean ohne Sandstrände und mit Mietauto kommt man auf dem gut ausgebauten Straßennetz überall hin. Madeira wird das Hawaii Europas genannt, weil die meisten Berge wie auf Hawaii bis zur Spitze hin bewachsen sind.

We spent our annual vacation on the Portuguese Atlantic island of Madeira. A fantastically beautiful island if you like nature, hiking, plants, food and wine. Madeira is a steep rock in the ocean with no sandy beaches and with a rental car you can get everywhere on the well-developed road network. Madeira is called the Hawaii of Europe because, like Hawaii, most of the mountains are covered with vegetation right up to the top. 

Jeans enger nähen - Make Waistband Smaller

Meine Tochter bekam von der Tante zum Geburtstag eine Jeans. Wie immer passte die Länge und die Hüftbreite, aber nicht die Taille. Auch bei mir passt das nie. Ist das bei euch auch so? Kann die Modeindustrie keine Jeans machen, die auch in der Taille passen? Ich kann zwar sehr gut Länge anpassen oder einen Gummi im Bund einziehen, wenn es mal 1-3 cm nicht passt. Aber hier waren bis zu 10 cm zuviel. Also habe ich mir YouTube Videos zu dem Thema angesehen und festgestellt, dass es zig verschiedene Herangehensweisen gibt. Je nachdem wie die Jeans geschnitten und wie die Geschicklichkeit an der Nähmaschine ist, findet man bestimmt die richtige Methode. Die rückwärtige Naht ist eine Doppelnaht und die wollte ich nicht aufmachen. Da würde man gleich sehen, dass da was gemacht wurde. An den Seiten waren einfache Nähte, das erschien mir machbar. 

My daughter got a pair of jeans from her aunt for her birthday. As always, the length and hip width were right, but not the waist. That never works for me either. Is this your experience too? Can't the fashion industry make Jenas that also fit in the waist? I can adjust the length very well or insert an elastic if it doesn't fit by 1-3 cm (1-2 in). But here up to 10 cm (4 in) was too much. So I watched YouTube videos on the topic and found that there are tons of different approaches. Depending on how the jeans are cut and how skilled you are with the sewing machine, you will definitely find the right method. The back seam is a double seam and I didn't want to open it. You would immediately see that something was being done. There were simple seams on the sides, which seemed easier to do. 

Monatscollage Oktober 2023

Du meine Güte, dieser Oktober hatte es in sich. Ein Event jagte das andere, ich war verstrickt in Vorbereitungen und Planungen. Ich hatte keine Zeit für irgendwas anderes, geschweige denn, für Fotos von den Kleinigkeiten. Daher diesmal nur wenige Fotos von großer Bedeutung für mich und meine Familie.

Monatsrückblick für Oktober: 

1. Meine Tochter wurde 18. Alle Eltern kennen das, wie überwältigt man ist, wenn aus dem kleinen Kind ein großer Erwachsener wird. Wir haben groß gefeiert. Mit Freunden und Verwandten und Taufpaten in einem Schlosshotel in der Nähe. Es war wunderbar. Natürlich war auch ihre beste Freundin eingeladen. Auf dem kleinen Foto stehen sie in einem ruhigen Moment auf der Hotelterrasse und schauen auf das Schloss, wo gerade eine Hochzeit stattfand. Wir und das Brautpaar hatten Glück, für Anfang Oktober war das Wetter traumhaft schön und warm. 
2. Außerdem fand auch noch der Abschlussball der Schule meiner Tochter statt. Sie geht in die letzte Klasse. Motto: Legends never die! Es war herrlich. Aufregung pur. Kleid, Frisur, Schuhe, Fotos, Tanzeinlagen. Ein gelungener Abend. Wir als Eltern haben uns köstlich amüsiert.
3. Schließlich kam endlich unser Jahresurlaub. Eine Woche Madeira (Portugal). Das Hawaii Europas. Was soll ich sagen. Jeder, der dort war weiß wie traumhaft schön es ist. Und alle anderen sollten mal hinfahren. Wir waren auf der Insel in den Herbstferien und hatten von 8 Tagen 7 Tage strahlenden Sonnenschein. Ich werde demnächst noch einen Post darüber machen. Dann können wir alle im November schöne Fotos schauen. Und keines der Fotos wurde bearbeitet, die Farben sind echt. Dort sieht es wirklich so aus. (Link zum Post) 
4. Und dann gab es da noch unseren kleinen Herbstspaziergang im Wald. Der kommt da etwas bescheiden herüber. Aber wenn die Blätter sich verfärben, ist es im Wald oder Park einfach am schönsten.

My goodness, this October was a tough one. One event followed the other, I was caught up in preparations and planning. I didn't have time to do anything else, let alone have time to take photos of the little things. So this time only a few pictures that are of great importance to me and my family.

A retrospect of October:

1. My daughter turned 18. Every parent knows how overwhelmed you are when your little child grows into a big adult. We celebrated big. With friends and relatives and godparents in a castle hotel nearby. It was wonderful. Of course her best friend was also invited. In the small photo they are standing on the hotel terrace in a quiet moment and looking at the castle where a wedding was taking place. We and the bride and groom were lucky; the weather was wonderfully sunny and warm at the beginning of October.
2. My daughter's school prom was also taking place. She is in the last grade. Motto: Legends never die! It was wonderful. Pure excitement. Dress, hairstyle, shoes, photos, dance routines. A successful evening. We as parents had a great time. 
3. Finally our annual vacation came. A week in Madeira (Portugal). The Hawaii of Europe. What can I say. Everyone who has been there knows how beautiful it is. And everyone else should go there. We were there during the autumn holidays and had bright sunshine for 7 days out of 8 days. I'll do another post about it soon. Then we can all look at beautiful pictures in November. And none of the photos have been edited, the colors are real. It really looks like that there. (Link to blog post)
4. And then there was our little autumn walk in the woods. He comes across as a bit modest. But when the leaves change color, the forest or park is simply the most beautiful place to be.

12tel Blick 2023 - Oktober

Durch unseren Urlaub über den Monatswechsel, bin ich sehr verspätet dran, meinen Blick zu posten. Der Walnussbaum hat alle Blätter verloren und schaut nun etwas traurig aus. Er ist einer der letzten, der im Frühjahr Blätter bekommt und verliert sie als einer der ersten. 

Due to our vacation over the turn of the month, I'm very late in posting my view. The walnut tree has lost all its leaves and looks now a bit sad. It is one of the last to get leaves in spring and one of the first to lose them. 

Monatscollage September 2023

Monatsrückblick für September:

1. Ich habe Brötchen gebacken. Ich glaube zum 1. Mal oder zum 1. Mal gelungen. Brot backe ich ja schon lange. Aber genauso wie ich lieber Kuchen statt Kekse backe, ist es mir auch lieber ein Stück Brot zu backen, als an vielen kleinen Stücken herum zu basteln. Aber es hat geklappt und sie waren total lecker, wird aber trotzdem nur zu besonderen Anlässen gemacht werden. Dauert mir zu lange und ist zu klebrig. 
2. Und der neue Foodtrend ist auch an mir nicht vorbei gegangen. Reispapier Wraps. Ist so lecker und was die Fülle angeht, so vielseitig. 👍 von der ganzen Familie.
3. Gerade rechtzeitig zum Herbst und dem Blätterfall ...
4. ... haben wir unser Brennholz in die Holzkammern geschlichtet. Also kann kalt werden. Muss aber nicht :)
5. Mein Baby-Girl macht Fahrstunden. Wie ist das denn passiert? Gerade noch in Windeln und jetzt hinterm Lenkrad? Mein Mädel wird 18. Daran knabbere ich gerade etwas. 
6. Erntezeit. Meine Butternutkürbisse haben sich zu den Tomaten durchgeschlagen und rankten an den Stangen hoch. Schlingel!
7. Wir haben ein Streetfood-Festival besucht und es war einfach nur lecker. Man konnte Köstlichkeiten aus vielen Ländern ausprobieren. Leider konnte ich nicht soviel testen, wie ich wollte, weil ich nicht mehr konnte.
8. Ich habe einen 2. Flaschengarten angelegt. Mehr dazu gibt es HIER.
9. Steter Tropfen höhlt den Stein. Ich konnte meinem Mann vegane Wurst vorsetzen und es hat ihm auch geschmeckt. Wunder brauchen Zeit, aber sie passieren.
10. Bei so einem bezaubernden Himmel am Morgen, kann nur ein guter Tag werden. Und so war es auch :)

A retrospect of September:

1. I baked bread rolls. I think for the first time or they are eatable for the first time. I've been baking bread for a long time. But just as I prefer baking cakes to cookies, I also prefer baking one piece of bread to tinkering with lots of little pieces. But it worked and they were absolutely delicious, but will still only be made on special occasions. It takes too long for me and is too sticky.
2. And the new food trend didn't pass me by either. Rice paper wraps. It's so delicious and so versatile when it comes to filling. 👍 from the whole family.
3. Just in time for autumn and the falling leaves...
4. ...we put our firewood in the wood chambers. So it can get cold. But it doesn't have to :)
5. My baby girl is taking driving lessons. How did that happen? Just in diapers and now behind the wheel? My girl is turning 18. I am working on to digest this fact. 
6. Harvest time. My butternut squash made their way to the tomatoes and climbed up the poles. Rascals!
7. We went to a street food festival and it was absolutely delicious. You could try delicacies from many countries. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to test as much as I wanted because I couldn't do more.

9. Constant dripping wears the stone. I was able to serve vegan sausage to my husband and he liked it. Miracles take time but they happen.
10. With such an enchanting sky in the morning, it can only be a good day. And so it was :)

12tel Blick 2023 - September

Mittagssonne. Gegenlicht. Nächsten Monat nehme ich mir mehr Zeit, um ein schöneres Foto zu bekommen. Die Zeit verfliegt. Es ist schon wieder der letzte Tag des Monats. Momentan habe ich Probleme mit meinem Zeitmanagement. So wie meistens gegen Ende des Jahres. Da fällt einem immer ein, was man sich im Jänner vorgenommen hat und ganz plötzlich ist Oktober. Krass! 

Midday sun. Backlight. Next month I'll take more time to get a nicer picture. Time flies. It's the last day of the month again. I'm having problems with my time management at the moment. Like usually towards the end of the year. You always remember what you planned to do this year in January and all of a sudden it's October. Crazy! 

Aber September ist einer meiner Lieblingsmonate. Es ist noch schön warm, aber nicht mehr so heiß. Die Luft ist angenehm, man kann nachts wieder gut schlafen. Der Garten produziert immer noch wie verrückt, aber eigentlich ist der Tiefkühler schon voll. Die Herbstblumen sind voll in Blüte, die Blätter fallen schon, aber der Stress aus der Gartenbewirtschaftung ist raus. Schön! 

But September is one of my favorite months. It's still nice and warm, but not so hot anymore. The air is pleasant and you can sleep well again at night. The garden is still producing like crazy, but the freezer is actually already full. The autumn flowers are in full bloom, the leaves are already falling, but the stress of managing the garden is gone. Nice!

Pflanzen im Glas - Plants in a Jar

I did it again! Ich hab wieder einen Flaschengarten gemacht. And I love it! Ich hatte noch ein zweites Riesenglas, das sich hervorragend für einen Minigarten im Glas eignet. Im Gartencenter findet man bezaubernde kleine Pflanzen, die man mit Deko zu einer spannenden kleinen Miniwelt arrangieren kann. Meinen 1. Flaschengarten findet ihr HIER.

I did it again! I made another bottle garden. And I love it! I had a second giant glass jar that is ideal for a mini garden in a glass. In the garden center you can find charming little plants that you can arrange with decorations to create an exciting little mini world. Find my 1st Bottle Garden HERE. 

DIY Couchtisch - Coffee Table

Mein Sommerprojekt ist fertig und gut geworden. In einer Wohnzeitschrift habe ich gesehen, wie ein einfacher Küchentisch zu einem wunderschönen Couchtisch umgewandelt wurde. Ich habe vor in Zukunft das Wohnzimmer umzugestalten und da braucht es einen anderen Couchtisch. Jetzt passt er vielleicht noch nicht so gut dazu, aber mit dem neuen Sofa und der Wandfarbe schon. Also habe ich über eine Secondhand Verkaufsplattform einen handwerklich wunderbaren alten Küchentisch für 30 Euro erstanden und losgelegt.

My summer project is finished and turned out well. In an interior design magazine I saw how a simple kitchen table was transformed into a beautiful coffee table. I plan to redesign the living room in the future and I need a different coffee table. It may not fit in well now, but with the new sofa and the wall color, it will. So I bought a beautifully crafted old kitchen table for 30 EUR (32 USD) on a second-hand sales platform and got started. 

Monatscollage August 2023

Monatsrückblick für August: 

1. Unser Hund (16) darf nach jeder Grillerei den Rost abschlecken. Das ist sein Highlight. Er erledigt diese Vorreinigung sehr gründlich und ist total glücklich. Danach macht mein Mann natürlich noch eine Nassreinigung.
2. Die Tomaten und Zucchini sind reif und werden von mir zu Letscho verarbeitet, das ich portioniere und einfriere.
3. Mein Sommerprojekt ist fertig. Ich habe aus einem Küchentisch einen Couchtisch gemacht. Mehr dazu HIER. 
4. Wir haben außerdem die Fotoausstellung Festival La Gacilly in Baden bei Wien besucht. Beeindruckend, aber teilweise doch deprimierend.
5. Im August wird immer unser Brennholz vom örtlichen Bauern geliefert. Das erste Mal seit 20 Jahren habe ich davon Fotos gemacht. Es ist erstaunlich wie er mit Traktor und Anhänger in unserem Garten herum manövriert und nichts kaputt fährt. 
6. Am Wiener Rathausplatz findet im Sommer immer ein Filmfestival statt. Angeschlossen ist so eine Art Streetfoodkulinarik. So gut!
7. Ich habe meiner Tochter eine neue Handtasche aus alten Jeans genäht und sie liebt sie. Alles weitere dazu - HIER.
8. Und August ist auch immer der Monat, wo wir in den Kärntner Bergen nach Eierschwammerln (Pfifferlingen) suchen und da wir wissen wo, auch immer welche finden.

A retrospect of August: 

1. Our dog (16) is allowed to lick the grill after every barbecue. This is his highlight. He does this pre-cleaning very thoroughly and is totally happy. After that, of course, my husband does a wet cleaning.
2. The tomatoes and courgettes are ripe and I process them into Lecsó, which I portion and freeze.
3. My summer project is done. I made a coffee table out of a kitchen table. Click HERE for more. 
4. We also visited the outdoor photo exhibition Festival La Gacilly in Baden near Vienna. Impressive, but sometimes depressing.
5. Always in August our firewood is delivered by the local farmer. I took pictures of it for the first time in 20 years. It's amazing how he maneuvers around our garden with a tractor and trailer and doesn't break anything.
6. There is always a film festival at Vienna's Rathausplatz in summer. A kind of street food cuisine is attached. So good!
7. I made my daughter a new purse out of old jeans and she loves it. Find more HERE.
8. And August is always the month when we look for chanterelles in the Carinthian mountains and since we know where, we always find some.

12tel Blick 2023 - August

Der Sommer ist vorbei. Ende August merkt man das immer frühmorgens, wenn schon ein bisschen Dunst in der Luft und Tau auf dem Gras liegt und die Bäume schon Blätter fallen lassen. Und heute frühmorgens war auch der Zeitpunkt, an dem ich das Foto aufgenommen habe. Sonne kommt von links, also Osten und wir blicken Richtung Süden. Die Wiese glitzert, weil sie etwas feucht ist und die Luft frisch. Extrem heiße Tage liegen hinter uns, gefüllt mit schweren Stürmen und Gewittern, heftigen Überflutungen und Waldbränden. Total verrückt! Zum Glück nichts davon in unserer Nähe. 

Summer is over. At the end of August you always notice this early in the morning, when there is already a bit of mist in the air and dew on the grass and the trees are already dropping leaves. And this morning was also the time when I took the picture. The sun comes from the left, i.e. east, and we are looking towards the south. The meadow glitters because it is a bit damp and the air is fresh. Extremely hot days are behind us, filled with severe storms and thunderstorms, severe flooding and wildfires. So crazy! Luckily none of that around us.

Jeans Handtasche - Denim Handbag

Die Handtasche meiner Tochter aus alten Jeans hat ausgedient und wurde durch eine neue ersetzt. Alte Jeans bekommen bei mir immer ein 2. Leben und so auch diese. Die Tasche ist nicht mehr so verspielt wie die alte, meine Tochter wird erwachsen. 

My daughter's handbag made from old jeans has had its day and has been replaced with a new one. Old jeans always get a second life with me and so do these ones. The bag is not as playful as the old one, my daughter is growing up. 

Monatscollage Juli 2023

Monatsrückblick für Juli:

1. Kurzausflug nach Kärnten zu einer Geburtstagsparty am Berg über 1000 Meter bei Traumwetter und angenehmen Temperaturen. Genau richtig, um der Hitzewelle im Tal zu entfliehen. 
2. Meine kleinen gesammelten Essigfläschchen kamen mit bunten Blümelein gut zur Geltung und machen gute Laune.
3. Ich habe einen Flaschengarten gebastelt, den Post darüber gibt es HIER. Er ist jetzt einen Monat alt und gedeiht prächtig und macht soviel Freude.
4. Meine Tochter hat einen herrlichen Regenbogen über unserem Garten eingefangen.
5. Unser Tomatenwald, die Ernte hat begonnen.
6. Leider musste mein Mann einen Apfelbaum fällen. Er ist schon letztes Jahr an Altersschwäche gestorben und hat davor auch schon ein paar Jahre gelitten. Wir wollten es nicht wahrhaben, dass unser ertragreichster Apfelbaum von uns gegangen ist, aber jetzt wird es Zeit Platz zu schaffen für neue Bäumchen, die im Herbst einziehen werden.
7. Ich werkle gerade an einer neuen Handtasche für meine Tochter. Ist noch nicht ganz fertig.
8. Und ein Zwischenbericht von meinem Couchtischprojekt. Die Hitzewelle im Juli hat mich etwas ausgebremst, aber er ist abgebeizt und die Beine sind gekürzt und die Risse in der Tischplatte sind gefüllt. Die Farben sind gekauft. Vorher muss noch geschliffen werden.

A retrospect of July: 

1. Short trip to Carinthia for a birthday party on the mountain over 1000 meters in fantastic weather and pleasant temperatures. Just right to escape the heat wave in the valley.
2. My small collected vinegar bottles are very effective with colorful little flowers and put me in a good mood.
3. I made a bottle garden, the post about it is HERE. It is now a month old and thriving and pleases me every day.
4. My daughter captured a gorgeous rainbow over our garden.
5. Our tomato forest, the harvest has begun.
6. Unfortunately, my husband had to fell an apple tree. He died of old age last year and had suffered for a few years before that. We didn't want to admit that our highest-yielding apple tree was gone, but now it's time to make room for new trees that will move in in the fall.
7. I'm working on a new handbag for my daughter. It's not quite finished yet.
8. And an interim report on my coffee table project. The July heatwave slowed me down a bit, but it's been stripped and the legs shortened and the cracks in the tabletop filled. The paint is bought. It needs to be sanded first.

12tel Blick 2023 - Juli

Meine Tochter (17) hat ihr Pflichtpraktikum für die Schule absolviert und die Ferien können endlich beginnen. Mein Mädchen macht zwar jetzt den Führerschein und muss zum Kurs, aber das betrifft mich nicht. Unseren Jahresurlaub verbringen wir erst im Herbst, also ist einen Monat lang Nichtstun auf der Agenda. Herrlich! Naja abgesehen, dass der Hausherr derzeit auch Urlaub hat und er immer was tun will. Da muss ich echt ein Auge drauf haben, sonst tut er wieder eine Baustelle auf, die wochenlang dauert. 

My daughter (17) has completed her mandatory internship for school and the holidays can finally begin. My girl is now getting her driver's license and has to attend a course, but that doesn't concern me. We spend our family vacation in autumn, so doing nothing for a month is on the agenda. Splendid! Well apart from the fact that the man of the house is currently on vacation too and he always wants to do anything. I really have to keep an eye on him, otherwise he will open up a new construction site that will last for weeks. 

DIY Flaschengarten - Bottle Garden

Ich hab was ganz Süßes gemacht, und zwar einen Flaschengarten. Er ist so zauberhaft geworden, ich bin ganz verliebt. Ein Flaschengarten ist nichts anderes als kleine oder junge Pflanzen im Glas. Mein Flaschengarten ist oben offen, aber eigentlich gehört ein Deckel drauf und im Idealfall erhält sich das System alleine durch die Verdunstung. Aber mein Glas hat keinen Deckel und ich habe nichts dagegen, ab und an zu gießen.

I made something really cute, a bottle garden. It has become so magical, I am completely in love. A bottle garden is nothing more than small or young plants in a glass. My bottle garden is open at the top, but it actually needs a lid and ideally the system is maintained solely by evaporation. But my jar doesn't have a lid and I don't mind pouring once in a while. 

Monatscollage Juni 2023

Monatsrückblick für Juni: 

1. Endlich blüht der Lavendel. Ich liebe es! 
2. Wenn man eine Ramblerrose in einen Baum wachsen lässt, sollte der Baum nicht altersschwach sein. So wie unser Marillenbaum. Die Rose hat's überlebt, die treibt wieder aus, auch wenn wir sie sehr gestutzt haben. Vom Baum blieb nur ein kleines bisschen übrig. Da müssen wir uns was überlegen. 12 Meter Ramblerrose auf 3 Meter Baum? 
3. Im Juni haben mich auch die Mohnblumen im Steinbeet sehr erfreut. Sie lieben anscheinend den sandigen Boden und haben sich unglaublich vermehrt. Siehe HIER mehr.
4. Meine Tochter hat auch ihr Pflichtpraktikum für die Schule als Servicekraft in einem Seminarhotel und Schlosscafé angetreten und es gefällt ihr sehr gut.
5. Spannend war im Juni auch der Bienenschwarm, der sich in unserer Hecke niedergelassen hat. Könnt ihr HIER alles nachlesen. 
6. Auch der Holunder hat geblüht und ich habe Hollunderblütengelee gemacht. Einfach nur lecker!
7. Mein Sommerprojekt ist dieser Küchentisch, den ich gebraucht online gekauft habe und den ich in einen Shabby chic Couchtisch verwandeln will.
8. Mein Olivenbäumchen hat den Winter überlebt und wird demnächst blühen. Hat auch schon letztes Jahr geblüht, aber mit Oliven ist nichts geworden. 
9. Und die Blumen auf meinem Gartenfahrrad gedeihen super und machen viel Freude.

A retrospect of June: 

1. The lavender is finally blooming. I love it!
2. When growing a rambler rose into a tree, the tree should not be decrepit. Just like our apricot tree. The rose survived, it will sprout again, even though we trimmed it a lot. Only a tiny bit remained of the tree. We have to think about the situation. 12m (39ft) Rambler rose on 3m (10ft) tree?
3. In June I was also very pleased with the poppies in the stone bed. They seem to love the sandy soil and have multiplied incredibly. See more HERE.
4. My daughter also started her compulsory internship for school as a waiter in a seminar hotel and castle café and she likes it very much.
5. The swarm of bees that settled in our hedge was also exciting in June. You can read everything HERE.
6. The elderberry blossomed too and I made elderflower jelly. Just delicious!
7. My summer project is this kitchen table that I bought second-hand online and that I want to turn into a shabby chic coffee table.
8. My olive tree survived the winter and will soon bloom. It also flowered last year, but nothing happened with the olives. 
9. And the flowers on my garden bike are thriving and are a lot of fun.

12tel Blick 2023 - Juni

Halbzeit ist schon wieder. Sechs Fotos gibt es seit Jänner von meinem Nussbaum. Und er hat sich wieder prächtig ins Laub geworfen. Diesmal habe ich den Fototermin fast wieder verpasst und daher gibt's nur das schlichte Foto ohne Schnickschnack, weder 2 noch 4-Beiner hatten Zeit.

It's halftime again. There have been six photos of my walnut tree since January. And he threw himself magnificently into the foliage. This time I almost missed the photo session and therefore there is only the simple picture without frills, neither 2 nor 4-legged family members had time. 

Mohnblumen - Poppies

Letztes Jahr habe ich in den freien Stellen meines Beetes eine Wiesenblumensamenmischung gestreut und viele wunderschöne bunte Blumen wuchsen. Dieses Jahr wollte ich sehen, was sich ausgesamt hat und so wie es aussieht, vor allem die Mohnblumen. So schön, ich kann mich gar nicht satt sehen.

Last year I sprinkled a meadow flower seed mixture in the vacancies of my flower bed and many beautiful colorful flowers grew. This year I wanted to see if there are still flowers will sprout this year and it turned out pretty good, especially the poppies. So beautiful, I can't get enough of looking at it. 

Bienenernte - Bee Harvest

Wir haben eine Traube Bienen geerntet. Tolles Spektakel! Ein Bienenschwarm hat sich in unserem Garten in die Hecke gesetzt. Das Schwärmen haben wir leider verpasst, weil wir nicht zu Hause waren. Der Nachbar hat den örtlichen Imker gerufen, weil er dachte der Schwarm lässt sich bei ihm nieder, aber an der Grundstücksgrenze hat er sich für unsere Seite der Hecke entschieden. 

We harvested a cluster of bees. Great spectacle! A swarm of bees has settled into the hedge in our garden. Unfortunately we missed the swarming because we weren't at home. The neighbor called the local beekeeper, thinking the swarm would settle with him, but at the property line it chose our side of the hedge. 

Monatscollage Mai 2023

Monatsrückblick für Mai: 

1. Die großartigste Sache im Mai war, dass wir neue Fenster bekommen haben. Deshalb hat sich sonst eigentlich nicht viel ereignet, weil wir immer noch die Zimmer hinterher putzen. Unser Haus wurde 1880 gebaut und möglicherweise sind das die ersten neuen Fenster, die es seit damals bekommen hat. Bei den alten Kasten-Holzfenstern hat der Vorhang geflattert, wenn es draußen windig war. Und jetzt genießen wir die Ruhe (weil Schallschutz) und freuen uns auf den Winter. Denn jetzt heizen wir nicht mehr zum Fenster raus. 
2. Im Mai habe ich es auch geschafft meine Hochbeete zu bepflanzen. Tomaten, Pflücksalat, Butternutkürbis und Zucchini. Hier im Bild sieht man den Rhabarber, den ich einmal in meiner Verzweiflung mitten ins Hochbeet gepflanzt habe, nachdem er mir an drei anderen Standorten im Garten eingegangen ist. Und siehe da, dort gefällt es der Primadonna. Einmal gab es schon Rhabarberkuchen. 
3. Tja, Männer und Grillen. Die Grillsaison lauft so richtig an.
4. Die im Gartencenter wissen genau, wie man diese Blumenkübel präsentiert. Herrlich! 
5. Natürlich konnte ich an den schönen Farben der gestreiften Petunien nich vorbei gehen. Die kamen mit als Deko für mein Gartenfahrrad. 
6. Einmal gab es Topfen-Joghurt Kaltschale mit Beeren. Lecker!
7. Highlight im Mai war im Garten natürlich die Fliederblüte. Ich liebe den lila Flieder total und der Duft erst. Ein Traum! 
8. Meine Tochter hat ein Nachtpfauenauge gefunden. Da gibt es viele unterschiedliche Arten, keine Ahnung welches genau es ist. Aber es ist wunderschön und erstaunlich groß.
9. Meine fleißge und schlaue Tochter (17) hat ein tolles Zeugnis mitgebracht und zur Feier sind wir gleich mal schön im Kaffehaus frühstücken gewesen. Jetzt muss sie ein 2-monatiges Praktikum machen und die Arbeitswelt kennenlernen. Wird spannend!

A retrospect of May: 

1. The greatest thing about May was that we got new windows. That's why not much else happened, because we are still cleaning the rooms where the craftsmen worked. Our house was built in 1880 and these are possibly the first new windows it has had since then. With the old wooden box windows, the curtain fluttered when it was windy outside. And now we enjoy the silence (because of soundproof) and look forward to winter. Because now we don't heat out the window anymore.
2. In May I also managed to plant my raised beds. Tomatoes, lettuce, butternut squash and zucchini. Here in the picture you can see the rhubarb, which I once planted in my desperation in the middle of the raised bed after it died in three other locations in the garden. Lo and behold, the prima donna likes it there. 
3. Well, the man and his grill. The barbecue season is really starting.
4. Those people at the garden center know exactly how to display these flower pots. Splendid!
5. Of course I couldn't ignore the beautiful colors of the striped petunias. They came with me as decoration for my garden bike.
6. A last minute desert: Curd yoghurt cold bowl with berries. Yummy!
7. The highlight in May was of course the lilac blossom in the garden. I totally love the purple lilac and the scent. A dream!
8. My daughter found a peacock moth. There are many different types, no idea what exactly it is. But it's beautiful and amazingly big.
9. My hard-working and smart daughter (17) got a great school report card and to celebrate, we went to the coffee house for breakfast. Now she has to do a 2-month internship and get to know the working world. Will be exciting!

12tel Blick 2023 - Mai

Die warme Saison startet ganz langsam, also so schneckentempomäßig. Es ist der letzte Tag im Mai und ich habe noch immer lange Shirts und Socken an. Es hat einige Tage viel geregnet und das Gras wächst wie irre. Auf dem Bild sieht man meine Tochter wie sie mit dem Rechen durch die Obstbaumwiese geht und die Maulwurfshügel flach macht, damit ich nachher mit dem Rasentraktor das Gras mähen kann. Je mehr Erdhügel ich abmähe, desto schneller werden die Messer stumpf. Normalerweise kommen wir ohne Nachschleifen durch die Mähsaison. 

The warm season starts very slowly, like at a snail's pace. It is the last day of May and I'm still wearing long shirts and socks. It has been raining a lot for a few days and the grass is growing like crazy. In the picture you can see my daughter walking through the orchard with the rake and flattening the molehills so that I can mow the grass with the lawn tractor afterwards. The more soil mounds I mow, the quicker the knives become blunt. Normally we get through the mowing season without having to re-sharpen. 

Flieder im Mai - Lilacs in May

Es regnet seit Tagen. Was auch gut ist für die Natur und den Wasserhaushalt im Allgemeinen. Zum Glück habe ich meine Gemüsebeete schon bepflanzt und brauche mich ums Gießen in der nächsten Zeit nicht kümmern. Das freut des Gärtners Herz. Naja meines auf jeden Fall. Regen mögen Pflanzen lieber als hartes Brunnenwasser. 

Gemeiner Flieder - Syringa vulgaris - Lilacs

It has been raining for days. Which is also good for nature and the water balance in general. Fortunately, I have already planted my vegetable beds and won't have to worry about watering in the near future. That pleases the gardener's heart. Well mine definitely. Plants prefer rain to hard well water. 

Monatscollage April 2023

Monatsrückblick für April:

1. Im April war Ostern, und nach der Fastenzeit war die Osterjause ein absoluter Genuss. Ich weiß viel Fleisch, aber nach 40 Tagen Fasten hatten wir voll Gusto drauf. 
2. Ostermontag war verregnet, aber wir sind trotzdem zum Podersdorfer Leuchtturm am Neusiedler See gefahren, um uns etwas die Füße zu vertreten und frische Luft zu schnappen. 
3. Ich habe auch meinen ersten und letzten Mikrowellen-Tassenkuchen ausprobiert. Da mach ich doch lieber ordentlich Kuchen und dann hat jeder was davon.
4. Der nächste kulinarische Versuch war ein voller Erfolg. Und zwar habe ich Ingwershots selbst hergestellt. Ging so einfach und schmeckt soviel besser und ist soviel günstiger.
5. Letzten Monat habe ich mir drei neue Nachtkleider genäht. Anscheinend steigt bei mir die Häufigkeit der nächtlichen Hitzeattacken und da will ich vorbereitet sein. Leider gibt es die Nachthemden nicht so wie ich sie haben will. Nämlich mit lustigen Kindermotiven und mit überlangen Ärmeln. Herzchen, Eulen und Elefanten sind genau mein Ding.
6. Mehr als Tulpen liebe ich Narzissen und ich habe noch viel zu wenige Sorten im Garten. Das muss sich nächsten Jahr ändern.
7. Ein absolutes unerwartetes Highlight dieses Monats war die öffentliche Bücherei in der nächsten Stadt. Meine Tochter (17) musste für ein Schulprojekt recherchieren und hat sich den Gratis-Büchereiausweis geholt. Die Bücherei befindet sich in den Kellergewölben eines alten Klosters und ist urgemütlich und sehr gut sortiert. Jedenfalls sind wir jetzt wöchentlich alle drei in der Bücherei, um zu stöbern, Zeitschriften zu lesen, zu arbeiten und sich natürlich Bücher auszuleihen. Heftige Liebe dafür!
8. Und ein Katzenbild habe ich auch noch. Obwohl unsere 'Hello Kitty' einen Schlafplatz hat und diverse Teppiche herum liegen, schläft sie in letzter Zeit genauso zur Hälfte unter der Kommode. Muss man nicht verstehen. Lustige Katze 😻

A retrospect of April: 

1. Easter was in April, and after Lent the Easter brunch was an absolute treat. I know a lot of meat, but after 40 days of fasting we had a craving for ham.
2. Easter Monday was rainy, but we still visit the Podersdorf lighthouse on Lake Neusiedl to stretch our feet and get some fresh air.
3. I also tried my first and last microwave mug cake. I'd rather make a decent cake and then everyone gets something from it.
4. The next culinary attempt was a complete success. Homemade ginger drink. Was so easy and tastes so much better and is so much cheaper.
5. Last month I sewed three new night dresses. Apparently the frequency of my nightly hot flashes is increasing and I want to be prepared for that. Unfortunately, the nightgowns are not available the way I want them to be. Namely with funny children's motifs and with overlong sleeves. Little hearts, owls and elephants are exactly my thing.
6. I love daffodils more than tulips and I still have far too few varieties in my yard. That has to change next year.
7. An absolute unexpected highlight of this month was the public library in the next town. My daughter (17) had to do research for a school project and got the free library card. The library is located in the cellar vaults of an old monastery and is very cozy and very well sorted. Anyway, all three of us now go to the library every week to browse, read magazines, work and, of course, borrow books. Love it so much!
8. And I have a picture of our cat too. Although 'Hello Kitty' has a spot to sleep and various carpets are lying around, lately she's been sleeping half under the dresser as well. Don't have to understand. Funny cat 😻
