Grünkohl - Kale
In meiner Biogemüsekiste war gestern Grünkohl. Zuerst wusste ich gar nicht was das ist und musste im Internet nachschauen. Dazu muss man sagen, dass ich hier in Ostösterreich lebe und wir hier so gut wie keinen Kontakt zu diesem Gemüse haben. Ich hab es noch nie im Supermarkt gesehen oder bei meinen Freunden gegessen. Nun, gegessen habe ich es schon, bei meiner Schwägerin, die aus Norddeutschland stammt und die jedesmal einen Freudentanz aufführt, wenn sie in Österreich irgendwo zu Grünkohl kommt. Ich hab es dann so wie Mangold oder Blattspinat behandelt und mit viel anderem Gemüse zu einer Pastasauce verkocht und mit Nudeln gegessen. Kann ich echt empfehlen und war so lecker. Genau deshalb habe ich mir die Gemüsekiste bestellt (nur über die Wintermonate, da ich ja selbst einen Garten habe und ab Frühsommer eigenes Gemüse habe). Damit ich neues kennen lerne. Im Supermarkt wird angeboten was auch verkauft wird. Da wird wenig experimentiert. Und genauso ist es auch mit dem Speiseplan. Man kocht was in der Familie gerne gegessen wird und variiert dann. Es ist jedesmal spannend, wenn die Gemüsekiste geliefert wird und ich bin gezwungen (von mir selber) den Inhalt bestmöglich zu verwerten. Schon einige Male wurde ich überrascht und herausgefordert. Topinambur z.B. war neu für mich, aber muss ich nicht mehr haben. Pastinaken kannte ich nicht und ist eine neue große Liebe geworden. Rotkrautbeilage habe ich immer als Fertiggericht gekauft, aber nie selber gekocht, dabei schmeckt es soviel besser. Granatapfel, Grapefruit, Süßkartoffel, Rote Bete hätte ich nie gekauft. Für mich ist die Gemüsekiste immer wie ein Überraschungsei.

I then treated it as chard or leaf spinach and cooked with many other vegetables to a pasta sauce and eaten with pasta. It was so delicious. That's why I ordered the vegetable box (only over the winter months, since I have a garden myself and from early summer own vegetables). So I get to know something new. The supermarket offered what can be sold. There is little experimentation. And that's the same with the menu. You cook what is eaten in the family and then varies. It is always exciting when the vegetable box is delivered and I am forced (by myself) to use the content as best as possible. Several times I was surprised and challenged. Jerusalem artichokes e.g. was new to me but we are not so fond of it. I didn't know parsnips and became a new big love. I've always bought red cabbage as ready meal, but never prepared it myself, it tastes so much better. I would never have bought pomegranate, grapefruit, sweet potato, beetroot. For me, the vegetable box is always like a surprise egg.

Kissenbezug anpassen - Modify Pillowcase
Meine Tochter bekam neue Bettwäsche. Schon beim Aussuchen stellte ich verärgert fest, dass die Kopfkissen in einem komischen Format daherkamen. 80 x 80 cm, was soll das denn sein? Meine Kopfkissen sind 70 x 90 cm und so will ich sie auch haben, rechteckig und nicht quadratisch. Da ihr das Muster gefiel, haben wir sie dennoch gekauft, denn "Was nicht passt, wird passend gemacht". Die Bettwäsche ist aus Flanell oder Biber, auf dem Foto schon gewaschen und nicht gebügelt (Flanell bügle ich nicht, denn dann wird der Stoff hart wie ein Brett), daher die Falten.

Hallo neues Jahr - Happy New Year
Erst einmal hoffe ich ihr seid gut im neuen Jahr angekommen. Ich bedanke mich bei allen, die bei mir mitlesen und mich mit Klicks und Kommentaren motivieren. Letztes Jahr hatte ich ein ziemliches Tief beim Führen des Blogs. Ich hoffe das wird sich ändern.
Den Jahreswechsel verbringen wir immer am Hügel im Garten auf der Gartenbank und schauen uns das Feuerwerk im Ort an. Ich liebe Feuerwerk, aber wir sind nur passive Bewunderer. Drei Sternspritzer (Wunderkerzen) hingen noch am Christbaum, die haben wir mitgenommen und dann um Mitternacht entfacht. Das sieht echt nett aus, ist billig und relativ ungefährlich und meine Tochter (13) hat auch ihre Freude daran.

New Year's Eve we always spend on the hill in the garden on the bench and look at the fireworks in the village. I love fireworks, but we are just passive admirers. Three sparklers still hung on the Christmas tree, which we took with us and then kindled at midnight. This looks really nice, is cheap and quite harmless and my daughter (13) also enjoys it.

Zu guter Letzt Dezember - At Last December
Viel passiert, aber entweder fehlt die Zeit oder die Lust zum Bloggen. Also kommt hier in aller Kürze mein Dezemberpost, und ich hoffe meine Frequenz erhöht sich im neuen Jahr wieder.
Much has happened, but either the time for or feel like blogging is missing. So here comes my December post very briefly, and I hope my frequency increases in the new year.
Im November haben wir zwei noch sehr schöne Ausflüge unternommen. Zum einen auf die Mamauwiese (über 900m hoch mit Blick auf den wolkenverhangenen Schneeberg), zum anderen ins Joglland mit Jause in der Buchtlbar in Wenigzell.

Katze im Korb - Cat Basket
Vom Mützen stricken hatte ich noch dicke Wolle übrig und die habe ich zu einem kuscheligen Körbchen für unsere Katze verarbeitet. Ich denke sie mag es.
After knitting hats I still had bulky wool left over and I have made a cuddly basket for our cat. I think she likes it.

Burg Güssing - Güssing Castle

Das grandiose Herbstwetter treibt uns fast jedes Wochenende raus und lässt uns Ausflüge in die nähere oder weitere Umgebung unternehmen.
Das Bundesland Burgenland hat seinen Namen nicht zu unrecht. Alle paar Kilometer kann man hier eine Burg finden. Im Südburgenland besuchten wir die Burg Güssing, die alleine in einer Ebene auf einem erloschenen Vulkankegel thront. Sie ist anscheinend bei Hochzeitspaaren sehr beliebt, kann man hier doch wunderschön heiraten. Die Burg beheimatet eine Kapelle, einen Festsaal, ein Museum, ein Restaurant, einen Weinkeller und eine weitläufige Burganlage.
The terrific autumn weather entices us almost every weekend to undertake excursions in the near or further surroundings.
In southern Burgenland we visited Güssing Castle, which sits on an extinct volcanic cone. The castle seems to be very popular with wedding couples, so you can marry beautifully here. The castle is home to a chapel, a banquet hall, a museum, a restaurant, a wine cellar and a spacious castle complex.

Weihnachten im Schuhkarton - Operation Christmas Child

Gerade noch habe ich den Oktober erwischt. Na der ist ja vorbeigeflutscht, irre! Aber ich habe auch eine gute Entschuldigung, dass ich solange nichts von mir hören ließ, denn mein Bad wurde renoviert. Aus geplanten zwei Wochen wurden vier, aber dazu vielleicht ein andermal.
Heute geht's um einen weiteren persönlichen Beitrag für den Schuhkarton. Schon vor längerer Zeit habe ich ja Kuschelbärchen gestrickt für die Aktion Weihnachten im Schuhkarton. Von meiner Schwägerin bekam ich ganz dicke Wolle geschenkt. Mag ich eigentlich gar nicht. Zufällig hatte mir meine Mama auch 10-er Stricknadeln überlassen, die bis dahin nur herumlagen sowie die Wolle. Also gab's Mützen. Einfach so ohne Anleitung. Übungskopf war der meiner Tochter :)
Wow, last day of October. Well that has passed by fast, crazy! But I also have a good excuse that you didn't hear from me sooner because my bathroom got a makeover. There were four weeks construction site instead of planned two weeks, but maybe more another time.
Today it's about another personal contribution to the shoe box. Already some time ago I knitted cuddly bears for the campaign Christmas in a shoebox or Operation Chistmas Child. My sister-in-law gave me very bulky wool for free. I do not really like it. Coincidentally, my mom had given me matching knitting needles, which until then only lay around like the wool. So I knitted hats. Just like that without instructions. Training head was that of my daughter :)

Bemalte Steine - Painted Stones
In den Sommerferien haben meine Tochter (12) und ich nicht viel Kreatives gemacht, aber eine Sache haben wir doch ausprobiert. Und zwar haben wir Steine bemalt. Das war einfach und hat Spaß gemacht.

Ausflug zur Riegersburg - Trip to Riegersburg Castle

Wir haben einen tollen Ausflug auf die Riegersburg im Vulkanland der Steiermark gemacht. Die Burg war so beeindruckend, weil sie wunderbar restauriert ist und ich selten so prächtige Innenräume gesehen habe.
We have made a great trip to Riegersburg Castle in the volcanic region of Styria. The castle was so impressive because it is wonderfully restored and I have rarely seen such splendid interiors.
Wir haben einen tollen Ausflug auf die Riegersburg im Vulkanland der Steiermark gemacht. Die Burg war so beeindruckend, weil sie wunderbar restauriert ist und ich selten so prächtige Innenräume gesehen habe.

Rosenrückschnitt - Prune Roses
Wir haben eine 16 Jahre alte Strauchrose, die meistens wachsen durfte wie sie wollte. Nur gelegentlich habe ich mal was abgezwickt. Aber nun war sie so ausufernd groß, dass dahinter nur ein finsteres Loch war, wo keiner mehr hinwollte. Eigentlich ist dort ein gepflasterter Platz für den Liegestuhl, aber durch die Dunkelheit fühlen sich da auch die Gelsen wohl. Lange habe ich gezögert und viel gelesen, ob man so alte dicke Stämme wegschneiden kann. Aber hop oder drop, so konnte es nicht weitergehen. Also erfolgte im April (vorm Austrieb) der radikale Rückschnitt, nur ein paar dünnere Stämmchen durften stehenbleiben und auch die Seitentriebe wurden alle gekürzt. Und wie ihr seht, war das kein Problem für die Rose. Es kamen von unten frische neue Triebe aus der Erde und sie blühte im Juni wieder ganz wunderbar. Nur habe ich vergessen sie da zu fotografieren. Das Bild rechts ist von gestern und das ist schon die zweite Blüte, die natürlich viel geringer ausfällt. Das selbe Schicksal ereilte auch meine englischen Rosen und eine moderne Rose und alle haben noch im Juni wieder geblüht. Also keine Angst vor einem radikalen Rückschnitt eurer Rosen. Wenn sie vorher gesund und kräftig waren, dann sind sie es nachher auch wieder.

So in April (before the spring bud break), the radical pruning took place, only a few thinner stems were allowed to remain and the side shoots were all shortened. And as you can see, that was not a problem for the rose. Fresh new shoots came down from below and bloomed again in June. But I forgot to take pictures. The right picture is from yesterday and that is already the second bloom, which of course turns out much smaller. My English roses and a modern rose met the same fate and all bloomed again in June. So don't be afraid of a radical pruning of your roses. If they were healthy and strong before then they will be strong afterwards.

Spulen - Bobbins

Heute geht's um Nähmaschinenspulen. Ich hatte kürzlich mal wieder so ein AHA-Erlebnis und vielleicht weiß das ja eh jeder, aber vielleicht kann ich ja auch jemandem helfen. Ich wollte an einem Kleidungsstück eine Naht verstärken. Hingesetzt, eingeschalten, auf den Fußanlasser gedrückt und es passiert genau gar nichts. Also alles überprüft, geputzt, neu eingefädelt, nichts. Im Internet recherchiert. Nichts. Frust. Ehemann gebeten, die Nähmaschine mit in die Stadt zu nehmen und in der Fachwerkstatt zum Service bringen.

Sat down, turned on, pressed on the foot control and it happens absolutely nothing. So everything checked, cleaned, re-threaded, nothing. Researched on the internet. Nothing. Frustration. Asked husband to take the sewing machine into the city and bring it for service to the specialist workshop.

Istrien, Kroatien - Istria, Croatia
Zurück von einem herrlichen Urlaub in Kroatien. Wir waren erstaunlicherweise zum ersten Mal hier, obwohl Kroatien so nah ist. Mit dem Auto sind wir in 5 Stunden in Opatija gewesen und wir haben hier eine traumhaft schöne Zeit verlebt.
Back from a wonderful holiday in Croatia. We were amazingly here for the first time, even though Croatia is so close. By car we were in 5 hours in Opatija and we have spent a wonderful time here.

Ferienfreuden - Holiday Joy
Die Ferien gehen ja schon zwei Wochen und meine Tochter (12) und ich lassen es langsam angehen, also wirklich langsam, so in Zeitlupe etwa. Daher passiert auch ziemlich wenig zur Zeit und genauso passt es uns auch. Wir lesen viel, wir beide, gemütlich am Terrassenbett. Lili hat schon vier Bücher gelesen und ich hab auch schon zwei Mittelalterkrimis geschafft.
Momentan freue ich mich, dass der Schwalbenschwanz wieder unseren Sommerflieder besucht, sowie viele viele andere Falter auch.
The holidays are already two weeks old and my daughter and I take it slow, so really slow, slow motion. That's why there's not much happening right now, and that's just how we like it. We read a lot, both of us, cozy on the terrace bed. Lili already read four books and I have already managed two medieval mystery novels.
Momentan freue ich mich, dass der Schwalbenschwanz wieder unseren Sommerflieder besucht, sowie viele viele andere Falter auch.

The holidays are already two weeks old and my daughter and I take it slow, so really slow, slow motion. That's why there's not much happening right now, and that's just how we like it. We read a lot, both of us, cozy on the terrace bed. Lili already read four books and I have already managed two medieval mystery novels.

Mangold - Swiss Chard
Ich habe Mangold das erste Mal angepflanzt und ich bin sehr angetan von der Schönheit der Pflanze und der Vielseitigkeit dieses Gemüses. Ich habe welche mit rotem und mit gelben Stiel. Mangold macht echt was her im Beet, weil er aufrecht und hoch wächst. Und die Schnecken mögen ihn auch nicht. Naja, vielleicht haben sie auch den Salat im Beet lieber. Denn wenn ich eine Schnecke finde, dann dort.

Wackelsteine in der Blockheide - Nature Park Blockheide
Der Vatertagsausflug führte uns ins nördliche Niederösterreich
in den Naturpark Blockheide. Dort findet man auf relativ kleinem Raum
eine merkwürdige und sehenswerte Ansammlung von seltsamen
Steingebilden. Diese bizarr geformten Granitsteinblöcke sind
Findlinge oder Restlinge der Böhmischen Masse und manche auch als
Wackelsteine ausgebildet.

Frühlingsblüten - Spring Blossoms
Endlich Frühling wie man ihn sich vorstellt. Momentan muss viel im Garten gemacht werden. Ich weiß nicht, ob ich dem Wetter schon trauen kann und habe deshalb meine Beete noch nicht bepflanzt. Aber schon alles vorbereitet und Samen und Pflanzen warten schon auf der Terrasse. Außerdem war der Rasentraktor im Service und es macht jetzt wieder richtig Spaß, damit herum zu fahren.
Große Gartenumgestaltungen finden dieses Jahr nicht statt, aber ein paar alte Bäume müssen gefällt, ein paar Bretter bei den über 10 Jahre alten Hochbeeten ausgetauscht und einige Sträucher umgepflanzt werden.
Momentan sind wir dabei unsere 15 Jahre alten Rosenbüsche zu beschneiden. Busch ist gut, die Stämme haben teilweise 5-7 cm Durchmesser. Ich kann sie mit einer Hand nicht mehr umfassen. Also schneiden wir in der Mitte diese dicken Stämme raus, damit der Strauch sich neu aufbauen kann. So ist die Theorie. Ich werde die Aktion dokumentieren und dann sehen wir mal, ob die Rosen die Schnittmaßnahmen so einfach wegstecken, wie ich mir das vorstelle.

DIY Slipeinlagen - DIY Panty Liners

Ich bin so zufrieden und glücklich mit dem Ergebnis, dass ich euch unbedingt darüber berichten muss, auch wenn das Thema im wahrsten Sinne des Wortes schlüpfrig ist. Es geht um ein Frauenhygieneprodukt, nämlich die Slipeinlage. Ich verwende täglich eine Slipeinlage, aber erst seit meine Tochter (12) diese Produkte auch benötigt, sehe ich wieviel Müll wir produzieren. Außerdem habe ich das (subjektive) Gefühl, dass ich zunehmend mit Juckreiz zu kämpfen habe. Wenn man dann noch liest, dass Baumwolle das mit Pestziden am meisten belastete Produkt ist, dann will ich, dass meine Tochter andere Wege geht und kennen lernt. Ich muss gleich vorweg schicken, dass ich nur auf der Suche nach einer Slipeinlage war und nicht nach einer Binde.

DIY Häkelschrift - Crochet Chart

Meinte Tochter (12) fand im Supermarkt in der Wühlkiste das Buch "Mandala Träume Häkeln" und wollte es unbedingt haben. Ich war natürlich hocherfreut, dass sie Interesse an Häkeln zeigte und nach Durchsicht fand ich auf Anhieb viele Modelle, die ich selbst nachmachen wollte. Zuhause stellte ich fest, dass man doch etwas Erfahrung brauchte, um die schriftlichen Anleitungen zu verstehen. Häkelschriften gibt es darin nicht. Aber ich half ihr immer wieder weiter und so entstanden schon einige Mandalas, allerdings noch einfärbig. Ich selbst bin allerdings der absolut visuelle Typ und liebe es nach Strick- oder Häkelschriften zu arbeiten. Vielleicht würde sich auch meine Tochter leichter tun, wenn sie nach Plan arbeiten könnte. Häkelschriften selber machen, sowas muss es doch im Internet geben. Da gibt es schließlich alles :)
My daughter (12) found in the bargain box at the supermarket a book about crochet Mandalas and absolutely wanted it. Of course, I was delighted that she was interested in crocheting and after looking through the book I immediately found many templates I wanted to work myself. At home I realized that it took some experience to understand the written instructions. There are no crochet charts in it. But I helped her and so she did some mandalas, but still one-colored. However, I am the absolute visual type and I love working with charts. Maybe it would be easier for my daughter too if she could work after charts. Making crochet charts yourself, there must be some information on the internet. After all you can find anything on the internet :)

Teddy Boy
Mein zweites Bärchen ist fertig, diesmal mit einer 4-fach Sockenwolle gestrickt. Etwas dick ist er geworden, weil sich die Wolle beim Ausstopfen sehr gedehnt hat. Aber ein Bär muss ja knuddelig sein. Meine Tochter sagt zwar, dass er wie eine Maus ausschaut, was ja auch egal ist. Der Bär wird im November in einem Schuhkarton zu einem Kind als Weihnachtsgeschenk reisen und es wird dann bestimmen was es sein soll.

Kapuze weg - Hood Off
'Was nicht passt, wird passend gemacht'. Ein Lieblingsspruch von mir und meinem Mann, natürlich in unterschiedlichen Bereichen. Aber mal von vorne ... Mir fiel auf, dass mein Mann von seinem Jogginganzug immer nur die Hose mit anderen Shirts kombinierte, aber nie mit der Jacke die dazugehört. Den gekauften Jogger hat er schon ein paar Jahre, aber kürzlich sah ich wieder, dass er zur Hose ein anderes Oberteil aus dem Schrank zog. Auf meine Frage hin, warum er nie die passende Jacke anzog, meinte er nur: Ich mag keine Kapuze. Ist ja cool, dass ich das auch mal erfahre. Aber das kann ich ändern.

I noticed that my husband always combined his jogging pants with other shirts but never with the jacket that goes with it. The store bought jogging suit he already has a few years, but recently I saw again that he pulled another shirt from the closet. When I asked why he never put on the matching jacket, he just said: I don't like the hood. It's cool that I finally find that out. But I can fix that.

Hach was hab ich heute geschaut als ich den Briefkasten öffnete. Andrea von PerlenKuchen hat mir ein Päckchen geschickt. Naturhistorisches Museum Wien - Museum of Natural History Vienna
In den Ferien muss man ja auch immer Kinderbespaßung machen und da passt ein Besuch im Museum immer. Diesmal haben wir uns das Naturhistorische Museum in Wien vorgenommen, weil ich da schon ewig nicht mehr war und die Saurierabteilung noch nie gesehen habe. Das Museum ist das Zwillingsstück zum Kunsthistorischen Museum, das genau gegenüber steht. Dazwischen thront Kaiserin Maria Theresia auf einem Sockel und gibt dem Platz auch ihren Namen.

Waldspaziergang - A Walk in the Woods
Es sind Ferien und leider ist bis jetzt kein Schnee in den Osten Österreichs vorgedrungen. Wir liegen gerade mal 100 Meter zu tief. Am Sonntag wollten wir diese Differenz überbrücken und sind etwas tiefer ins Piestingtal rein gefahren, um die Winterlandschaft zu finden. Und was soll ich sagen: Gefunden!

Blüten im Jänner - Blossoms in January
17°C im Jänner! Verrückt! Als sich unser Hund draußen in die Sonne legte, wusste ich dass es warm genug war und auch wo. Er findet treffsicher immer die Hotspots, egal ob drinnen oder draußen. Das traumhafte Wetter haben wir natürlich sofort ausgenutzt. Ich zum Stricken in der Sonne, er zum Sonnenbaden.

Bären Mode - Bear Fashion
Vielleicht könnt ihr euch ja noch an den Bären erinnern, den ich vor Weihnachten gestrickt habe. Ich war ja so verzaubert, dass ich ihm (also es ist eigentlich eine Sie) außer einem Schal noch weitere Garderobe machen wollte. Nun das hab ich auch. Das war so amüsant, das hätte ewig so gehen können. Aber jetzt ist Schluss, ich hab mich entschlossen einen weiteren Bären zu stricken, den kann ich dann ja auch wieder einkleiden.

Häkelmandala - Crochet Mandala
Ich bin wirklich spät dran euch dieses gehäkelte Mandala zu zeigen. Schon letztes Jahr im Sommer gefertigt, hat es erst kürzlich einen Metallring bekommen. Das Muster habe ich früher schon mal gehäkelt, den Blog mit der Anleitung gibt es leider nicht mehr. Aber man kann gut erkennen, wie man die festen Maschen und Stäbchen anordnen muss. Ich liebe Mandalas, sie sind so nett anzuschauen und leicht zu häkeln.
