12tel Blick 2021 - Mai

Der Mai war extrem kalt und regnerisch. Man braucht im Garten nicht gießen und es ist unglaublich grün, aber die frischen Gemüsepflanzen im Beet geben sich sehr zurückhaltend. Was hat sich beim Ausblick diesen Monat geändert? Das Schilf ist schon einen halben Meter gewachsen, der Warmwasserspeicher steht an seiner endgültigen Stelle und das Podest für die Gartendusche steht auch schon Ort und Stelle. Die Rückwand ist eigentlich auch fertig, aber bei Regen will man ja auch nicht montieren. Und bei 10°C besteht ja sowieso keine Eile, das Projekt fertig zu stellen. 

May was extremely cold and rainy. You don't need to water the garden and it's incredibly green, but the fresh vegetables in the gardenbed are very cautious. What has changed this last month? The reeds have already grown half a meter (20 in), the hot water tank is in its final position and the platform for the garden shower is already in place. The rear wall is actually finished, but you don't want to mount it when it rains. And at 10°C (50 F) there is no rush to finish the project anyway. 

Lila Blumen im Mai - Purple Flowers in May

Ich liebe lila Blumen. Und rosafarbene. Aber momentan haben die lila Blumen die Führung übernommen. Die rosa Hyazinthen sind schon verblüht und die rosa Pfingstrosen leider total vom Regen verwuschelt. Daher heute nur lila.

I love purple flowers. And pink ones. But right now, the purple flowers have taken the lead. The pink hyacinths have already faded and the pink peonies are sadly completely tousled by the rain. Therefore only purple today.

12tel Blick 2021 - April

Endlich ist der Frühling da, auch wenn er sehr kalt ist. Auf dem Foto sieht man leider nicht, dass es schon wieder mal schneit. Der Schnee bleibt nicht liegen, weil der Boden schon über Null Grad hat, aber die Luft ist eiskalt. Unser Projektfortschritt wurde leider massiv gehemmt, weil bei uns hier seit Ostern Lockdown ist. Wir müssten Holz und Pflanzen kaufen, beides war nicht möglich. Tja, nur Geduld. 

Spring is finally here, even if it's really cold. Unfortunately, you can't see in the picture that it's snowing again. The snow doesn't stay because the ground is already too warm, but the air is freezing. Unfortunately, our project progress was severely hampered because we have been in lockdown here since Easter. We would have to buy wood and plants, neither was possible. Well, just be patient. 

Deko-Hänger - Hanging Decor

Es ist ja immer wieder mal Distance Learning angesagt. Also ist das Mädel (15) viel zuhause und das gefällt ihr auch so. Und mir auch. Es klappt ausgesprochen gut. Aber dennoch muss man doch manchmal die Freizeitbeschäftigung etwas ankurbeln und gestalten. Pinterest hat mich inspiriert. Unser Garten braucht mehr Deko. Also habe ich das Mädchen durch den Garten geschickt zum Sammeln von Naturmaterialien zum Basteln. Und dann haben wir so eine Wandhängedekoration gezaubert. Drei Tage lang, draußen auf der Terrasse, arg kalt war es. Aber so toll und spannend. Und das Ergebnis gefällt uns total. Ich denke da kommt noch mehr. 

Distance learning is always the order of the day. So my girlie (15) is a lot at home and she likes that. And me too. It works out extremely well. But still, I sometimes have to stimulate and shape her leisure activities a little. Pinterest inspired me. Our garden needs more decoration. So I sent the girl through our garden to collect natural materials for handicrafts. And then we created a wall hanging decoration. For three days, outside on the terrace, it was very cold. But so great and exciting. And we really like the result. I think there is more to come. 

Bärlauch - Wild Garlic

Jetzt ist die Zeit, um Bärlauch zu pflücken. Haben wir noch nie gemacht, obwohl wir Produkte mit Bärlauch sehr lieben. Ich hatte immer zu viel Angst, dass ich sie mit den giftigen Maiglöckchen oder Herbstzeitlosen verwechseln könnte. Ich muss leider gestehen, dass ich keinen Blick für botanische Merkmale habe. Sprießt im Beet das frische Grün, muss ich immer warten, bis es groß ist, damit ich zweifelsfrei erkenne, ob Unkraut oder Blume. Auch wenn sich im Laufe der Jahre die Erfahrung anhäuft, so bin ich dennoch jeden Frühling manchmal ratlos, ob ich's ausrupfen darf oder nicht. Nachdem uns wieder ein herrliches Bärlauchpesto geschenkt wurde, habe ich beschlossen, dass wir uns selbst auf die Pirsch nach den köstlichen grünen Blättern begeben. 

Bärlauchpesto - Ramsons pesto (Wild Garlic)

Now is the time to pick wild garlic. We have never done it before, although we love products with wild garlic. I was always too afraid that I would mistake them for the poisonous lilies of the valley or the autumn crocus. Unfortunately, I have to admit that I have no eye for botanical features. If the fresh green sprouts in the flowerbed, I always have to wait until it is large so that I can clearly see whether weeds or flowers. Even if the experience accumulates over the years, every spring I am sometimes stumped whether I can pull it out or not. After we were given a wonderful wild garlic pesto again, I decided that we would go on a hunt for the delicious green leaves ourselves. 

Ostergeschenktaschen nähen - Sewing Easter Giftbags

Es ist Ostern und die Kinder werden beschenkt. Wir halten das eher klein, es gibt Süßigkeiten, Ostereier und vielleicht ein kleines Geschenk. Schon zu Weihnachten habe ich Geschenkbeutel und -taschen aus Stoff genäht - siehe HIER. Und auch jetzt gibt's kleine Ostergaben für meine Patenkinder in selbst genähten Ostergeschenktaschen. Es wird kein Papier und Klebeband verschwendet und man kann sie weiter verschenken. Der eigene Stoffberg wird weniger und die Tragetaschen sind so schnell genäht und es macht Spaß. Ein Recyclingprojekt wird draus, wenn man die Taschen aus alten Bettlaken, Jeans, Vorhängen oder ähnliches näht. Dann wird noch ein Häschen drauf appliziert und die Bedeutung ist klar. 

It's Easter and the children are getting presents. We keep it small, our gierlie gets some sweets, Easter eggs and maybe a little present. I already sewed fabric gift bags for Christmas - see HERE. And now my godchildren get Easter gifts in self-sewn gift bags. No paper and tape are wasted and they also can be given away as gifts. Your own fabric stash gets less and the tote bags are sewn so quickly and it's fun. It becomes a recycling project if you use old sheets, jeans, curtains or something like that. Put a bunny on it and the meaning is clear. 

12tel Blick 2021 - März

Im März haben wir schon einiges im Garten gemacht, aber durch einen nochmaligen Wintereinbruch leider nicht soviel wie erhofft. Macht nichts. Was hat sich verändert: Ich habe das trockene Schilf abgeschnitten und man kann jetzt in den hinteren Teil des Gartens sehen. Außerdem sind alle Steine der Steinmauer weggearbeitet und zwar teilweise gleich in das dahinter liegende neu geschaffene Schmetterlingsbeet. Das Wetter ist herrlich, es hat 25 Grad und das Gras beginnt zu wachsen und grün zu werden. 

In March we already did a lot in the garden, but unfortunately not as much as we had hoped because of another onset of winter. Never mind. What has changed: I cut off the dry reeds and you can now see the back of the garden. In addition, all the stones of the stone wall have been put away, some of them directly into the newly created butterfly bed behind. The weather is lovely, it's 25 degrees (77 F) and the grass is starting to grow and turn green. 

Mausefalle – Mousetrap – DIY

Das letzte Wochenende war sehr aufregend, für uns und besonders für unsere Katze 'Hello Kitty'. Denn sie hat eine lebende Maus ins Esszimmer gebracht und fallen gelassen. Die Maus hat sich unterm Schrank verkrochen, wo sie auch in Sicherheit war. Denn dieser Schrank ist sowohl für die Katze als auch für unsere Arme zu niedrig. Wir wohnen auf dem Land und ab und an verirrt sich eine Maus ins Haus, bestimmt nicht freiwillig. Im Sommer lassen wir alle Türen und Fenster zur Gartenseite offen und dann sind sie auch wieder weg. Also war eine Maus im Haus jetzt nicht so eine Katastrophe für uns. Es war nur Winter und Fenster aufmachen ging ja nicht so. Also hat mein Mann über die Nacht Mausefallen (simple Holz-Schlagfallen) aufgestellt. Mit dem Ergebnis, dass am nächsten morgen zwei Fallen leer gefressen waren und die 3. unberührt blieb. Da war die Maus anscheinend schon satt 😂 

The last weekend was very exciting, for us and especially for our cat 'Hello Kitty'. Because she brought a living mouse into the dining room and dropped it. The mouse has crawled under the closet, where it was safe because this closet is too low for both the cat and our arms. We live in the country and every now and then a mouse gets lost in the house, certainly not voluntarily. In summer we leave all doors and windows open which are facing the garden and then they are gone by morning. So having a mouse in the house wasn't such a disaster. It was just winter and opening the windows wasn’t an option. So my husband set up the mousetraps (simple snap traps) over night. With the result next morning two traps were empty and the third one remained untouched. Apparently the mouse was already fed up 😂 

Frühling - Spring 2021

Also gestern Abend beim Schlafengehen war noch alles in Grün. Heute morgen jedoch - das. So geht das doch nicht. Im Kalender steht Frühling und wenn das da steht, dann will ich das aber auch haben. Heute stand Gartenarbeit am Plan. Und das hier im Osten Österreichs. Bei meinem Schwager in Kärnten ist heute Frühling. Tja, dann halt nochmal Bobfahren und Schneemänner bauen. 

So yesterday night when we went to bed everything was still green. But this morning - that. It doesn't work that way. The calendar says spring and if it is says so, then I want it that way. Gardening was on the agenda today. And that much snow here in the east of Austria. It's spring at my brother-in-law's in Carinthia. Well, then bobsledding and building snowmen again.

Einhorn gehäkelt – Unicorn crochet

„Was lange währt, wird endlich gut.“ Passendes Sprichwort zu meinem Einhorn. Ich habe die Packung eigentlich vor Jahren meiner Tochter geschenkt, aber mit Handarbeiten hat sie es nicht so. Also lag es lange herum, bis ich mich im Sommer vor zwei Jahren daran machte. Und habe festgestellt, dass mich Amigurumi so gar nicht fesselte. Die Packung war super, alles drin was man braucht, die Anleitung war sehr gut. Sogar mit Häkel-Grundkurs und in vier Sprachen. Im Herbst räumte ich den Kopf und Körper auf meinen Schreibtisch und irgendwann alles wieder zurück in die Packung. Das war die Vorgeschichte.

Vor ein paar Tagen fiel mir auf, dass unsere Katze vorm Kleiderschrank auf dem Boden lag und die ganze Zeit versuchte, mit ihren Pfoten etwas unter dem Schrank rauszuholen. Also holte ich eine Taschenlampe, legte mich auf den Boden und in der hintersten Ecke sah ich eine kleine weiße Kugel. Aaaah! Anscheinend hatte sich unsere Katze schon vor zwei Jahren eine Häkel-Kugel vom Schreibtisch geangelt und solange am Boden herum geschubst bis sie unter den Kleiderschrank rollte und da auch blieb. Ich komme da nicht mit den Staubsauger drunter und unser Robbi (Saugroboter) leider auch nicht. Aber jetzt war ich motiviert und hatte in kürzester Zeit die restlichen Teile fertig gestellt und da ist es nun, das Regenbogeneinhorn. 

“All good things are worth waiting for” A saying that goes with my unicorn. I actually gave the crochet gift box to my daughter years ago, but she doesn't like handicrafts. So it was lying around for a long time until I took it two years ago in the summer. And I found out that I am not very keen on amigurumi. The crochet box was great, everything you need in it, the instruction was very good. Even with a basic crochet course and in four languages. In fall I put the crocheted parts, head and body, on my desk and at some point I put everything back into the box. That was the prehistory. 

Energy Balls

Gestern Abend bin ich im Netz über Energy Balls (kleiner Snack zwischendurch, meist zuckerfrei für den schnellen extra Energiekick) gestolpert und hab so Lust drauf bekommen, die jetzt sofort zu machen. Hab alle möglichen Zutaten, die ich gerade gefunden habe, in meinen Zerkleinerer geworfen und es hat tatsächlich geklappt. Wir sind begeistert! Die schmecken wahnsinnig gut. Mein Mädel hat heute gleich zwei Stück zum Pausenbrot gepackt. Im Internet gibt es genug Anleitungen, diese Zutaten hatte ich im Haus.

Last night I stumbled across energy balls (small snack in between, mostly sugar-free for a quick extra energy kick) on the internet and I felt like doing it right now. Threw all sorts of ingredients I just found in my food processor and it actually worked. We are excited! They taste really good. My girl add two pieces to her school sandwich today. There are enough instructions on the Internet, I had these ingredients at home.

12tel Blick 2021 - Februar

Dieser Februar hatte es in sich, aber eher auf der privaten Seite. Wenn sich die 200 km entfernt lebende Mutter von einem Tag auf den anderen in einen Pflegefall verwandelt, sind Kraft und Organisationstalent gefragt. Ich bin echt stolz drauf, dass mein Bruder, mein Mann und ich das so gut hin bekommen haben (auch zur Zufriedenheit meiner Mutter). Und es ist ja hoffentlich auch nur von kurzer Dauer bis alles wieder verheilt ist. Aber anfangs ist man doch geschockt und überfordert. Aber läuft wieder.
Aus diesem Grund ist der Februar eher an mir vorbeigerauscht. Das Foto habe ich in den 5 Sekunden vor meiner Abreise zu meiner Mutter gemacht und zum Glück passt es auch ziemlich. Was man hier noch nicht sieht, ist dass wir schon angefangen haben, die Steine zu entfernen und zu einer Beetumrandung aufzuschichten. Das nächste Mal mehr dazu. Der runde Kreis im Vordergrund ist der Poolplatz, aber der wird erst je nach Wetterlage ab Mai genutzt. 

This February was tough, but more on the private side. When the mother, who lives 200 km away, transforms into a nursing case from one day to the next, organizational skills and strength are required. I'm really proud that my brother, my husband and I managed the situation so well (also to the satisfaction of my mother). And hopefully it will only last a short time until everything is healed. But at first you are shocked and overwhelmed. But I think everything is going to be ok. 

For this reason, February passed me by. I took the photo in the 5 seconds before my departure to my mother and luckily it fits pretty well. What you don't see here is that we have already started removing the stones and piling them up to form a border for a flowerbed. More on that next time. The round circle in the foreground is the pool area, but it is only used from May, depending on the weather. 

12tel Blick 2021 - Jänner

Es ist wieder soweit, die Aktion 12tel Blick startet wieder. Letztes Jahr habe ich ewig gebraucht mich für einen Blick zu entscheiden, aber diesmal war's einfach. Dennoch wollte ich zuerst ein Motiv außerhalb des Gartens suchen, aber in unmittelbarer Nähe zum Haus hat mich nichts gereizt. Naja und dann die Pandemie. Da bleib ich lieber zuhause, vor allem weil wir zwei Projekte im Garten realisieren wollen und dazu einiges umbauen. Genau betrifft es die linke Ecke, da sieht man eine gelbe Mauer, die dem Nachbar gehört und eines seiner Nebengebäude ist. Davor haben wir Steine aufgeschichtet, die wir beim Graben im Garten gefunden haben. Wir sind hier steinreich :) Die kommen weg und zwar hinter das Schilfbeet. Der Plan ist, dass wir damit ein Schmetterlings-beet bauen, sowas wie eine Kräuterspirale nur mit Blumen für Schmetterlinge. Und dort wo die Steine derzeit noch liegen, baut mein Mann eine Outdoor-Gartendusche. Beide Projekte kann ich ohne seine Hilfe nicht machen, daher hoffe ich, dass er die Zeit und Lust dafür aufbringen kann. Das weiß-blau eingepackte Ding in der Bildmitte ist unser Warmwasserspeicher für die jetzige mobile Gartendusche. Der kommt dann links vor die gelbe Wand. Nun wir werden sehen wie sich das alles entwickeln wird. Ich bin gespannt 😏 

So it's January, the foto challenge starts again. Last year it took me forever to decide which view to pick, but this time it was simple. Nevertheless, I wanted to look for a motif outside the garden first, but nothing appealed to me in the immediate vicinity of the house. Well and then the pandemic. I prefer to stay at home, especially because we want to realize two projects in the garden and to do some renovations. It concerns the left corner exactly, there you can see a yellow wall that belongs to the neighbor and is one of his outbuildings. Before that, we piled up stones that we found while digging in the garden. We want to move them behind the reed bed. The plan is that we use it to build up a butterfly bed, something like a herb spiral but instead of herbs with flowers for butterflies. And where the stones are currently still lying, my husband is building an outdoor garden shower. I can't do both projects without his help, so I hope that he can find the time and enthusiasm. The white and blue wrapped thing in the center of the picture is our hot water storage tank for the current mobile garden shower. It comes to the left in front of the yellow wall. Well we'll see how it all turns out. I'm curious 😏

Mütze gestrickt - Knit a Hat

Ich hatte noch so schöne blaue Wolle, da ging sich noch eine Mütze aus. Diesmal ganz simpel im Rippenmuster gestrickt, bei dem Bouclégarn hätte man ein Muster auch schwer erkannt. Als Bündchen habe ich wieder den Italienischen Maschenanschlag oder Tunnelanschlag gemacht.
Genießt den Schnee solltet ihr welchen haben! 

I still had such beautiful blue wool at home, so I knitted another hat. This time it was knitted in a very simple rib pattern, with the bouclé yarn it would have been difficult to recognize a pattern anyway. For the hat cuff I made the  Italian Tubular cast-on again. Enjoy winter!

In letzter Zeit - Lately

Ich hoffe ihr seid gut in diesem Jahr angekommen. Am Neujahrstag war es so schön, dass wir in etwas höhere Lagen gefahren sind, um einen Spaziergang im Schnee zu machen. Denn leider hat es bei uns seit Anfang Dezember nicht geschneit. Im Wald ist es immer schön und da kommt gute Laune von ganz alleine. 

I hope you arrived well in this year. On New Year's Day it was so nice weather that we went to a slightly higher elevation to take a walk in the snow. Because unfortunately it has not snowed here since the beginning of December. It's always beautiful in the woods and a good mood comes naturally. 

12tel Blick 2020 - Dezember

Das Jahr ist voll! Geschafft! Manchmal habe ich mit der Auswahl meines Blickes gehadert, aber es ging ganz gut. Nur einmal habe ich die Markierung verloren und daneben geknipst, mein Ziel dennoch klar verabsäumt. Ich wollte das Rosenbeet auf Vordermann bringen, was nur teilweise geklappt hat. Ich habe zwar alle Rosen beschnitten und auch gejätet, aber die Unterpflanzung habe ich nicht geschafft. Ich kann das leider nicht auf die Pandemie schieben, sondern nur meiner Trägheit anlasten. Naja vielleicht ein bisschen auf die Pandemie. Gartenarbeit mache ich ganz nach Lust und Laune, und als denn die Motivation hoch war, waren die Geschäfte leider geschlossen.
Das Foto habe ich Anfang Dezember gemacht, als es zwei Tage Schnee gab. Sehr wenig, aber es reichte für Bobfahren, eine Schneeballschlacht und süße, kleine Schneemännchen. 

The year is full! Done! Sometimes I struggled with the choice of my photo view, but it worked out quite well. Only once did I lose the marker and missed the exact perspective, but clearly missed my goal. I wanted to spruce up the rose bed, which only partially worked out. I pruned and weeded all the roses, but I didn't manage the underplanting. Unfortunately, I cannot blame this on the pandemic, I can only blame it on my listlessness. Well maybe a little bit to the pandemic. I do gardening however I feel like it, and when the motivation was high, the shops were unfortunately closed.

I took the picture at the beginning of December when there were two days of snow. Very little, but enough for bobsledding, a snowball fight and building sweet little snowmen. 

Ruhige Zeit - Calm Time

Es ist 3. Advent, wir sind entspannt und ruhig. Der Christbaum steht schon im Wohnzimmer, die Kekse sind gebacken, die Geschenke gewerkelt oder auf dem Weg, das Haus geschmückt.
Läuft gut :) Ich hoffe bei euch auch. 

It is the 3rd Advent, we are relaxed and calm. The Christmas tree is already in the living room, the cookies are baked, the gifts are made or on the way, the house is decorated.

Geschenksäcke nähen - Sew Gift Bags

Wiederverwendbare Geschenksäcke sparen Papier, unglaublich viel Klebeband und enorm viele Geschenkbänder

Letztens war ich ziemlich verblüfft als ich meinen Stoffvorrat durchwühlte und eine ganze Menge Weihnachtsstoffe fand. Herrlich! Muss schon viele Jahre her sein, dass ich da mal was draus machen wollte. Keine Ahnung was. Aber jetzt wusste ich es ganz genau. Geschenksäcke aus Stoff sollten es werden. Nicht so kleine niedliche, die man überall zu kaufen bekommt, sondern richtig große. Für die großen sperrigen Geschenke, wo 2 Rollen Papier drauf gehen, wenn man die einpacken will. Die Säcke sind in Minuten genäht. Falls man keine weihnachtlichen Stoffe hat, dann nimmt man was man hat (alte Bettwäsche und Bettlaken) und näht einen Stern (oder viele) drauf. Das sieht immer nach Weihnachten aus. Und damit mein Mann auch Freude dran hat, was zu verpacken, habe ich die Stoffschleife gleich fix am Sack angenäht. Für die kleinen Geschenke, kann man ja das restliche Papier aufbrauchen. Oder wenn man die Geschenke frühzeitig besorgt, passende Säckchen nähen. Ich freue mich sehr über dieses Projekt. Ich habe noch alte Laken, die ich in ganz große Geschenksäcke verwandeln werde. Weiter unten gibt es den tollen 5-zackigen Stern in vielen Größen. 

Reusable gift bags save paper, an incredible amount of adhesive tape and an enormous amount of gift ribbons

Recently I was quite amazed when I rummaged through my supply of fabric and found a whole bunch of Christmas fabrics. Lovely! It must have been many years since I wanted to make something out of it. I don't remember what. But now I knew exactly. It should be gift bags made of fabric. Not so cute little ones that you can buy everywhere, but really big ones. For the big, bulky gifts that need 2 rolls of paper when you want to wrap them up. They are sewn in minutes. If you don't have any Christmas fabrics, then take what you have (old bed linen and sheets) and sew a star (or many) on it. It always looks like Christmas with a star on it. I sewed the fabric loop onto the sack so that my husband can also enjoy wrapping a gift. You can use up the remaining paper for the small gifts. Or if you craft/get/buy/make the presents early, sew suitable bags. I'm happy about this project, I still have old sheets that I will turn into very large gift bags. Below you can find the lovely 5-pointed star in many sizes. 

12tel Blick 2020 - November

November mag ich nicht und das Bild zeigt deutlich warum. Neblig feucht und duster war es die meiste Zeit über. Ein paar Mal sind wir in die sonnigen Berge geflüchtet, ansonsten Lockdown. Mitte November war das Haus fertig weihnachtlich dekoriert und die ersten Kekse gebacken. Die sind schon wieder aufgefuttert. Aber wir waren beschäftigt. So richtig dicken Bodennebel gibt es hier sehr selten, das kenne ich nur in Donaunähe, wo ich aufgewachsen bin. Von daher ertrage ich dieses Wetter gelassen, meine Stimmung ist überhaupt sehr wetterunabhängig. So wie es ist, ist es halt. Ich bin froh, dass man das Wetter nicht auch noch regulieren kann. Natur eben, sobald man da drein pfuscht, kann's nur schlecht für uns ausgehen. 

I don't like November and the picture clearly shows why. It was foggy, damp and gloomy most of the time. A couple of times we fled to the sunny mountains, otherwise lockdown. In mid-November the house was decorated for Christmas and the first cookies were baked. They are already eaten up. But we were busy. There is very rarely really thick ground fog here, I only know that near the Danube, where I grew up. So I can stand this weather very good, my mood is generally independent of the weather. It is at it is. I'm glad we can't regulate the weather too. Nature, as soon as you mess with it, it can only end badly for us.

Schönen 1. Advent - Happy Advent Sunday

Unser diesjähriger Adventskranz ist nicht rund, sondern ein längliches Stück Holz. Vor kurzem haben wir unseren Fliederbaum entfernt, weil er in die Jahre gekommen, jedes Jahr bei jedem starken Sturm bricht und Äste einbüßt. Er sah erbärmlich aus. Also weg damit. Ein Stück vom Stamm bekam ein zweites Leben und dient uns als Adventskranz. Die 4. Kerze wollte ich weiter weg von den anderen haben, weil gerade die letzte Woche vorm Christkind sich für Kinder ins Endlose ziehen kann. 

Man sieht Adventskränze weit und breit, und weiß genau bis Weihnachten ist nicht mehr weit. 
Ihr werdet sehen wie schnell die Tage verrinnen, fangt so langsam an euch auf Weihnachten zu besinnen.

This year's Advent wreath is not round but an elongated piece of wood. We recently removed our lilac tree because it was getting old, breaks every year with every strong storm and loses branches. He looked pathetic. So get away with it. A piece of the trunk got a second life and serves as an Advent wreath. I wanted the 4th candle further away from the others, because especially the last week before Christmas can be endless for children. 

Schlafkleid - Sleep Dress

Schlafkleid sagte meine Tochter immer als sie noch klein war zum Nachthemd. Pyjamas kamen für die kleine "Prinzessin" nicht in Frage. Jetzt ist sie 15 und Pyjamas sind die 1. Wahl bei Schlafbekleidung. Bei mir sind es nach wie vor Schlafkleider, da fühle ich mich wohler, da zwickt nichts. Den Stoff habe ich im 1. Lockdown bei Butti*** als Aktionsposten gekauft und zugeschnitten. Dann kam Sommer und die Teile lagen ganz gut im Nähzimmer. Jetzt im 2. Lockdown habe ich das Nachthemd fertig genäht, weil ich es gebraucht habe. Ich bekomme Nachthemden im Handel nicht so wie ich sie haben will, mit langen Ärmeln, halsfernen Ausschnitt und lang. Echt nicht! Sie werden so nicht mehr angeboten. Stört mich nicht, kann ich ja selber machen. Letztens wollte ich mir ein langärmeliges Shirt kaufen. Ging nicht. Alle hübschen Shirts hatten nur 3/4 Ärmel, was sogar an den Models bescheuert aussah. Tja, muss ich wohl wieder Stoff einkaufen. Soll ja schlimmeres geben 😏

My daughter used to say sleep dress instead of nightgown when she was a little girl. Pajamas were out of the question for the little "princess". Now she's 15 and pajamas are the number one choice in sleepwear. For me it's still a nichtgown, I feel more comfortable, nothing pinches. I bought the fabric in the 1st lockdown and cut it to size. Then came summer and the pieces were lying pretty well in the sewing room. Now in the 2nd lockdown I have finished the nightgown because I needed it. I don't get nightgowns the way I want them, with long sleeves, wide neckline and long. Not even for a lot of money, because they are no longer offered that way. Doesn't bother me, I can do it myself. I recently wanted to buy a long-sleeved shirt. No way. All pretty shirts only had 3/4 sleeves, which even looks stupid on the models. Well, I have to buy some fabric again. There are worse things 😏

Nebelflüchtlinge - Fog Refugees

Vor ein paar Tagen hatten wir genug vom Dauernebel und sind in die Berge geflüchtet. Einfach auf den Webcams geschaut, ob auch wirklich Sonne in den Bergen ist und los gefahren. Wir wohnen im südlichen Niederösterreich, auf den Semmering dauert es nur eine halbe Stunde. Diesmal sind wir ein Stück weiter gefahren auf die Hohe Veitsch, wo Mann und Tochter im Winter gerne auch mal Schifahren. Es ist so toll, die paar Höhenmeter zu durchfahren, wo noch dichter Nebel ist, aber man vorne schon gleißendes Licht erkennt und man hat das Gefühl zu schweben und auf einmal reißt der Nebel auf und man wird geblendet von Sonne und blauem Himmel und toller Landschaft und guter Luft. 

A few days ago we were tired of the fog and we fled to the mountains. Just checked the webcams to see if there was really any sun in the mountains and hit the road. We live in southern Lower Austria, it only takes half an hour to get to the Semmering. This time we went a little further to the Hohe Veitsch mountain, where husband and daughter also enjoy skiing in winter. It's so great to drive through the few meters of altitude where there is still mist, but you can already see glaring light in front and you have the feeling of floating and suddenly the mist clears up and you are blinded by the sun and blue sky and great landscape and fresh air. 

Mütze gestrickt - Knitted a Hat

Immer im Herbst zieht es mich zu den Stricknadeln. Ein schnelles Projekt war diese Haube im Halbpatentmuster. Da ich ja immer was Neues dazulernen will, habe ich diesmal den Italienischen Anschlag ausprobiert. Auf YouTube gibt es viele tolle Videos dazu und ich muss gestehen, ich habe sie mir oft ansehen müssen, um den Anschlag hinzukriegen. Aber wenn der Groschen mal gefallen ist, geht's dahin. Mit dem italienischen Anschlag strickt man ein doppeltes Bündchen in einem Arbeitsschritt und es sieht einfach klasse aus, greift sich wunderbar an und ist echt schön. Für Mützen absolut ideal. Die Wolle habe ich von meiner Schwägerin bekommen und entspricht nicht meinem Farbschema, es steht weder mir noch meiner Tochter zu Gesicht. Aber die Mütze war auch für Spendenzwecke gedacht.

In autumn I am always attracted to knitting needles. This hat in a Brioche Stitch design was a quick project. Since I always want to learn something new, I tried the Italian Tubular cast-on this time. There are many great videos about it on YouTube and I have to admit that I had to watch them many times to get it. But when the penny has fallen, it's easy. With the Italian Tubular cast-on, you knit a double cuff in one step and it just looks great, has a wonderful grip and is really beautiful. Absolutely ideal for hats. I got the wool from my sister-in-law and it doesn't fit in my color scheme, it doesn't suit me nor my daughter. But the hat was intended for donation purposes anyway.

Herbst in der Südsteiermark - Autumn in South Styria

Seit Tagen hat uns der Nebel fest im Griff, daher zeige ich euch Bilder von unserem Kurztrip im Oktober in die Südsteiermark. Es war sagenhaft schön. Wir waren ja schon öfter in dieser Gegend Österreichs und haben Sightseeing gemacht, aber diesmal sind wir nur herumgefahren und haben Landschaft geschaut. Mehr hat's nicht gebraucht. 

The fog has had a firm grip on us for days, so I'm showing you pictures from our short trip to southern Styria in October. It was amazing. We have been to this area of Austria several times and have done sightseeing, but this time we just drove around and looked at the landscape. It didn't take any more. 

Nähen für den Hund - Sewing for the Dog

Recyclingidee für alte Pyjamas

Mein Mann konnte sich mal wieder von uralten Pyjamas trennen. Die waren von hervorragender Qualität und sind waschbar bei 60 Grad. Zu schade sowas wegzuwerfen. Ich nähe sie zusammen und mache daraus eine kuschelige Hundedecke. Ist in 10 Minuten fertig. Der Gummibund wird abgeschnitten und die Hosenbeine mit einem langen Zickzackstich zusammengenäht. Am Oberteil werden die Ärmel an das Oberteil genäht und auch der Halsausschnitt wird zugesteppt, damit nichts reinrutschen kann. Dann werden Oberteil und Hosenteil am Bund zusammen genäht. Das muss wirklich keine schöne Naht werden. Und schon ist das Kuscheltuch für den Hund fertig. Unser Hund hat drei Schlafplätze und schon alle sind mit Knuddeldecken mit Herrchengeruch ausgestattet. Also nach dem letzten Mal tragen, gar nicht waschen, sondern gleich ab aufs Plätzchen. Unser Hund liebt es seine Nase da rein zu graben 🐶

Recycling idea for old pajamas

My husband was able to dump his old pajamas. They were of excellent quality and washable at 60 degrees. Too bad to throw them away. So I stitched them together and made a cozy dog blanket out of them. Done in 10 minutes. Cut off the elastic waistband and sew the pant legs together with a long zigzag stitch. The sleeves are sewn to the top and close the neckline with a stitch so that nothing can slip inside. Then the top and trousers are sewn together at the waistband. It really doesn't have to be a nice seam. And the cuddly blanket for the dog is ready. Our dog has three sleeping places and they are all equipped with cuddly blankets with a dogdaddy odor. So don't wash it after wearing for the last time, just go straight to the dogcave. Our dog loves to dig his nose in there. 

12tel Blick 2020 - Oktober

Der Oktober zeigt sich heute sehr feucht. Nass würde ich gar nicht sagen, da es nur sehr leicht nieselt. Meine Foto Props sind diesmal meine Tochter mit Regenschirm, unsere Katze 'Hello Kitty' und die vielen Neubauten eines Maulwurfs. Die Verfärbung der Blätter erreicht seinen Höhepunkt und momentan sehen die Gärten und die Landschaft wunderschön aus. 

October is very humid today. I wouldn't say wet at all, as it only drizzles very lightly. This time my photo props are my daughter with an umbrella, our cat 'Hello Kitty' and the many new buildings of a mole. The fall foliage of the leaves is peaking and right now the gardens and countryside look magnificent. 

Sitzkissen - Chair Cushion

Im Zimmer meiner Tochter (15) fehlte noch ein zweiter Sitzplatz. Man möchte ja auch einem Gast Platz anbieten. Die kleine Bank bekam mit dem letzten Rest Kreidefarbe einen Anstrich wie der Schrank und ein Stückchen Stoff für ein Sitzkissen war auch noch da. Das Muster ist sehr großflächig und auf so einem kleinen Stück Stoff für das Kissen wären gerade mal ein oder zwei Vögel zu sehen gewesen, also hab ich welche ausgeschnitten und drauf appliziert, damit es ein bisschen interessanter aussieht. Und ich habe den Reißverschluss verdeckt eingenäht. Musste zwar nicht sein, wollte ich aber mal ausprobieren. So wie ich es gemacht habe, war es etwas tricky, da gibt's bestimmt auch eine einfachere Lösung, aber ich hab's irgendwie hinbekommen.  

A second seat was missing in my daughter's room. You also want to offer a guest a seat. The little bench was painted with the last bit of chalk paint like the closet and a piece of fabric for a seat cushion was also there. The pattern is very large and on such a small piece of fabric for the pillow you would only have seen a bird or two, so I cut them out and applied them to make it look a little more interesting. And I sewed in a hidden zipper. Didn't have to be, but I wanted to try it out. The way I did it was a bit tricky, there is sure to be a simpler solution, but I somehow managed it.

Jeans Geldtasche - Denim Wallet

Die gekaufte Geldbörse meiner Tochter löste sich auf und mir war mal wieder danach zu nähen. Ich habe mich mit Jeansstoff, alten Labels und Zierbändern so richtig austoben können. Manchmal dachte ich, dass mein Maschinchen die vielen Schichten nicht schafft, aber gemeinsam haben wir die Challenge gemeistert und ich bin mit dem Ergebnis mehr als zufrieden.  

My daughter's old wallet fell apart and I felt like sewing a new one myself. I enjoyed playing with denim, old labels and decorative ribbons. Sometimes I thought that my little machine couldn't manage the many shifts, but together we mastered the challenge and I'm more than happy with the result. And my daughter too :) 

12tel Blick 2020 - September

Ups, jetzt ist der September auch schon rum. Neue Schule in der Stadt für die Tochter, war aufregend und spannend. Als Eltern macht man sich immer viel zu viel Sorgen. Die Kinder raffen das schon und sind so cool.

Im Garten ist ziemlich viel Bücken angesagt. Äpfel, Zwetschken, Birnen, Walnüsse liegen am Boden und wollen aufgesammelt werden. Auf dem Foto sind meine zwei Lieben gerade dabei Äpfel einzusammeln. Äpfel und Birnen pressen wir zu Apfelsaft. Dieses Jahr ist wieder ein gutes Erntejahr und wir werden über 100 Liter Apfelsaft abfüllen. Lecker! 

Oops, now September is already over. New school in town for the daughter, was exciting and thrilling. As a parent, you always worry too much. The kids get it right and are so cool. 

Bending down is the order of the day in the garden. Apples, plums, pears and walnuts are lying on the ground and want to be picked up. In the picture, my two loved ones are just collecting apples. We press apples and pears to make apple juice. This year is another good harvest year and we will be bottling over 100 liters of apple juice. Delicious! 

12tel Blick 2020 - August

Leute August, Wahnsinn. August ist an mir vorbeigerauscht. Wir waren so richtig im Urlaubsmodus und haben viel und auch nichts gemacht. Es war teilweise so richtig heiß, wenn's nur ein paar Tage lang dauert, dann finde ich das auch schön. Bei uns hat es im 3-Tagesabstand immer wieder Sommergewitter gegeben. Auch heftig, manchmal mit Hagel, aber es gab fast keine Schäden. Nur die Zucchiniblätter wurden durchlöchert, aber die Saison ist fast vorbei. Gießen musste ich fast nie und bei uns ist es Grün wie schon seit Jahren nicht im August.

Hey guys, it's August. Crazy! August passed me by. We were really in vacation mode and did a lot and nothing. It was sometimes really hot, if it only lasts a few days, then I think that's nice too. We had summer thunderstorms every 3 days. Also violent, sometimes with hail, but there was almost no damage. Only the zucchini leaves have been perforated, but the season is almost over. I almost never had to water the garden and it is green here, as it has not been in August for years. 

DIY: Upcycling Schrank - Closet

Obwohl sich meine 14-jährige Tochter schon hauptsächlich selbst beschäftigt, möchte ich doch mit ihr in den 9 Wochen Sommerferien außer Urlaub ein gemeinschaftliches Projekt machen. Diesmal haben wir einen alten Kleiderschrank aufgemotzt, weil sie ihre offenen Regale nicht mehr haben wollte. Als wir unser Haus kauften, haben die Vorbesitzer (mit unserem Einverständnis) einige ihrer alten Kleiderkästen im Haus gelassen und ich habe darin im Sommer die Winterjacken verstaut. Die Schränke waren uralt, kaputt, furniert, angenagt und schäbig, aber Echtholz oder sagt man Vollholz. Also war es egal, ob wir sie versauen, sie waren sowieso Schrott. Haben wir aber nicht, er ist so toll geworden, wir sind alle ganz verliebt in den Schrank.

Although my 14-year-old daughter is already mostly doing herself, I would like to do a joint project with her during the 9 weeks of school holidays, apart from vacation. This time we pimped up an old wardrobe because she no longer wanted her open shelves. When we bought our house, the previous owners (with our consent) left some of their old closets in the house and I put the winter coats in there in the summer. The closets were old, broken, veneered, gnawed and shabby, but real wood, or do you say solid wood. So it didn't matter if we screwed them up, they were junk anyway. But we didn't, it turned out so great, we are all completely in love with the closet. 

Burg Hardegg - Hardegg Castle

Hardegg - die kleinste Stadt Österreichs

Da musste ich unbedingt hin, das wollte ich sehen. Die kleinste Stadt in Österreich liegt zwar im selben Bundesland, nämlich Niederösterreich, aber fast ganz am anderen Ende. Hardegg befindet sich im nördlichen Waldviertel, direkt an der tschechischen Grenze, nur der Fluss Thaya trennt die Staaten. Und eine Burg gibt's hier auch, was will man mehr. Der ideale Geburtstagsausflug für meinen Mann. Absolut alles hier ist klein und schuckelig und bezaubernd, nur nicht die Landschaft, die ist riesig und atemberaubend. 

Hardegg - the smallest town in Austria 

I had to go there, I wanted to see that. The smallest town in Austria is in the same federal state, namely Lower Austria, but almost at the very other end. Hardegg is located in the northern Waldviertel, right on the Czech border, only the Thaya River separates the states. And there's a castle here too, what more could you wish for. The ideal birthday trip for my husband. Absolutely everything here is small and cute and enchanting, except the landscape, which is huge and breathtaking. 

Wimpelkette - Pennant Chain

Eine Freundin hatte mir vor vielen Jahren einige Polstermöbelstoffmusterkarten (keine Ahnung, ob es dieses Wort gibt und ob diese Dinger so heißen) geschenkt. Kürzlich beim Aufräumen (nein eigentlich habe ich ganz was anderes gesucht) wieder gefunden und in den Mülleimer im Nähzimmer geworfen. Tja und nur Minuten oder Stunden später wusste ich genau, was daraus zu machen ist. Und zwar eine Wimpelkette, nicht für mich, sondern genau für die Freundin von der ich sie bekam. Sie hat ihr riesiges Carport (innerhalb des Gartenzaunes offen, gemauert an den zwei Außenseiten, Stellplatz für mindestens zwei Autos und 10 Fahrräder) leergeräumt, weil sie es leid war, bei jedem Regenguss, die leider nicht überdachte Terrasse zu verlassen. Ausgestattet mit Gartengarnitur und alten Sofas und Schränken für Geschirr, sieht es aus wie ein Outdoorwohnzimmer und ist urgemütlich. Dort würde sich die Wimpelkette ganz gut machen. Vielleicht kann ich noch Fotos nachliefern.

Many years ago a friend had given me some upholstery fabric sample cards (I have no idea whether these words exist and whether these things are called that way). Recently while tidying up (no, actually I was looking for something else) found it again and threw it in the garbage can in the sewing room. Well and only minutes or hours later I knew exactly what to do with it. And I made a pennant chain, not for me, but for the friend I got the stuff from. She cleared her huge carport (open inside the garden fence, bricked on the two outer sides, parking space for at least two cars and 10 bicycles) because she was tired of leaving the unfortunately uncovered terrace with every rain shower. Equipped with garden furniture and old sofas and cupboards for dishes, looks like an outdoor living room and is very cozy. The pennant chain would do quite well there. Maybe I can deliver photos later.
