Beautiful Fall - Wunderschöner Herbst
Ich liebe Frühling und Herbst, also die gemäßigten Jahreszeiten, wenn man im Garten jeden Tag etwas neues entdecken kann und die Farben ständig wechseln. Herrlich!

Sunday Trip - Sonntagsausflug
Diesen Trip haben wir schon einmal gemacht, nur von der anderen Richtung, siehe HIER. Das Höllental im südlichen Niederösterreich ist immer einen Ausflug wert. Die Landschaft, das Tal, der Fluss und die Aussichten auf Rax, Schneeberg und Semmering sind einmalig. Im Höllental fließt die Schwarza und diesmal sind wir an einem der vielen Parkplätze und Parkbuchten stehengeblieben und zum Fluss gegangen.
We made this trip already last year but from the other direction, see HERE. The Hell Valley in Southern Lower Austria is always worth a visit. The landscape, the valley, the river and the views of Rax, Schneeberg and Semmering (mountains) are unique. The river in the valley calls Schwarza and this time we have stopped at one of the many parking spaces and parking bays and gone to the river.

Crochet Grocery Bag - Häkelnetz

Lili hat gehäkelt, fast ganz alleine. In der Schule hat sie zwar die Grundbegriffe gelernt, aber mehr als eine Häkelschnur haben sie nicht gemacht. Ich hätte aber gerne, dass sie es gut kann und auch nicht vergisst. Daher haben wir zu Hause geübt. Zuerst Fingerstricken (da haben wir auch ein ganz süßes Projekt in Arbeit, aber noch nicht fertig) und jetzt ein Häkelnetz. Gefunden im Buch "Häkeln mit Lissi und Lukas", wo ganz süße kleine Projekte für Kinder, die häkeln lernen, zu finden sind. Sie ist sehr stolz auf ihr Werk und ich auf sie :)
Lili did crochet, almost alone. At school she has indeed learned the basic concepts, but one single crochet cord is all they did. But I would like that she know it well and will not forget how to do. Therefore, we have practiced at home. First finger knitting (we are making a very sweet project, but it is still in progress) and now a crochet mesh net. She is very proud of her work and I am of her :)

Flotte Lotte - Food Mill

Nun eigentlich ist die Flotte Lotte oder Passiermühle das Lieblingsgerät meines Mannes. Aber heute habe ich Brombeermarmelade gemacht und mein Mann hat mir ratzfatz die Brombeeren durch die Flotte Lotte passiert. Ich mag Marmeladen am liebsten ohne Kerne. Das Gerät funktioniert auch wunderbar bei Zwetschgen, nur muss man die vorher etwas weich kochen und dann durch die Flotte Lotte drehen. Dann bleiben Kerne und Haut in der Mühle hängen. Unsere Flotte Lotte ist uralt und schon ewig in der Familie meines Mannes. Es ist ein französisches Gerät und wahrscheinlich noch aus Kriegszeiten irgendwie zur Familie gekommen. Ich werde sie auch noch demnächst für das leckere Weintraubengelee benutzen.
Well actually the food mill is my husband's favorite gadget. But today I made blackberry jam and my husband has quickly pressed blackberries through the mill. I prefer jams seedless. The tool also works wonderfully with plums, only you have to previously cook the plums till they are soft and then rotate through the mill. Then seeds and skin stay in the mill. Our mill is very old and for ages in my husband's family. It is a French device and probably came somehow in wartime to the family. I'm going to use it in the near future for the delicious grape jam.

A Little Crochet - Ein bisschen Häkeln
Vor kurzem hatte ich Lust zu häkeln und die letzte Tasche, die ich häkelte, das war schon vor Ewigkeiten. Aber anscheinend bleibe ich meinem Farbschema treu. Zur Zeit gefallen mir die etwas runderen Taschenformen. Ich habe einfach darauf los gehäkelt ohne Mustervorgaben und gefüttert mit Reißverschluss soll sie auch werden. Das hier ist das Vorderteil der Tasche, die Rückseite wird aber schlichter.
Recently I feel like crochet and the last bag I crocheted, that was ages ago. But apparently I am loyal to my color scheme. Currently I like the slightly more rounded bag forms. I am crocheting without pattern and specifications just wild and I am going to line the bag and make a zipper. This is the front of the bag but the backside is more simple.

Playing With Numbers - Spielen mit Zahlen

Heute stelle ich euch das Würfelspiel Yatzee, Kniffel oder Würfelpoker vor. Meine Tochter tut sich schwer mit Mathe und ich zeige hier immer wieder mal Zahlenspiele, die sie bei diesem Problem spielerisch unterstützen sollen. Die Spiele haben wir teilweise seit Jahren und sind ausführlich getestet und machen auch uns Eltern Spaß. Als Lili noch kleiner war, haben wir die Kinderversion Kniffel Kids gespielt. Statt Punkte sind Tiere auf den Würfelseiten und es hat ihr damals schon großen Spaß gemacht. Man kann es ganz toll zu zweit spielen oder aber mit so vielen Spielern wie man will. Auf dem beigelegtem Verrechnungsblock kann eine Spalte für einen Spieler stehen oder man macht mehrere Spalten, wenn man nur zu zweit spielt. Ziel ist es, die geforderten Würfelkombinationen mit höchstens 3 Versuchen zu erwürfeln. Es fordert das Kombinationsvermögen, das Abschätzen der Möglichkeiten und natürlich das Kopfrechnen. Ich denke jeder kennt das Spiel und weiß wieviel Spaß es macht und es wird nie langweilig. Ein Klassiker eben!

The games we have for years in some cases and have been extensively tested and are also fun for us parents. When Lili was younger, we played the junior version. Instead of dots are animals on the cube sides and it was a lot of fun for her. Yahtzee can be played in twosomes or with so many players as you want. On a scorepad you can use one column per player or you are doing multiple columns when you only play in a twosome. The aim is to dice the required dice combinations with a maximum of 3 attempts. Yahtzee calls for the combined assets, estimating the possibilities and of course the mental arithmetic. I think everyone knows the game and knows how much fun it is and it is never boring. A classics!

Zucchini Spaghetti
Braucht ihr ein neues Zucchini Rezept, um der Ernte Herr zu werden? Aber in diesem Hitzesommer habe ich gar nicht so viele Zucchini geerntet wie sonst immer. Aber dennoch habe ich ein tolles, schnelles, einfaches, vegetarisches und schmackhaftes Rezept gefunden. Angeblich sogar Low Carb. Wir LIEBEN Zucchini. Es ist unser liebstes Gemüse und wird vom Mädel immer gegessen (sowie das meiste Gemüse - ungewöhnlich, oder?)
Eigentlich sind es keine Spaghetti, sondern eher Bandnudeln. Man schneidet nämlich eine Zucchini mit dem Sparschäler (Kartoffelschäler) in lange Streifen. Ich habe Zwiebel angebraten und noch eine große Karotte auch in Bandnudeln geschnitten. Anbraten und mit einem Schuss Wasser ablöschen, dann die Zucchinistreifen dazugeben. Ich hatte passierte Tomatensauce zu Hause, daher habe ich das genommen und eine Knoblauchzehe reingedrückt. Würzen. Kurz dünsten lassen. Käse darüber reiben. Fertig! Und lecker war's!
Do you need another zucchini recipe to use up the zucchini harvest? But in this hot summer, I have not so many zucchini (courgettes) harvested as usually. But I found a great, simple, vegetarian and tasty recipe. Allegedly even low carb.
We LOVE zucchini. It is our favorite vegetable and is always eaten by the girlie (also most vegetables - unusually, right?) Actually, they are no spaghetti but rather ribbon noodles or tagliatelle or fettuccine. Because you cut a zucchini with a vegetable or potato peeler into long stripes.
Ingredients (for 2-3 persons):
1 table spoon oil (olive or canola oil)
2 small zucchini or 1 large garden zucchini (courgette)
1 onion
1-2 garlic cloves
1-2 carrots
5 table spoon water, maybe a little more depending on your pot's size
1 cup tomato sauce
salt, pepper, origanum, marjoram or whatever spices you like to make it taste mediterranean
grated cheese
Roast gently diced onion in oil, add striped carrots (with a vegetable peeler), roast some minutes and put in water and striped zucchinis. Let it steam (some minutes) till zucchinis are half done. Put in crushed garlic cloves, tomato sauce and all herbs and spices. Let slowly cook some further minutes. Done! Serve with grated cheese if you like. Bon appetit!

My Sunflowers - Meine Sonnenblumen
Ein Sonnenblumenfeld wollte ich haben, aber so wollte das nicht passieren. Ich habe meine Samen schön ausgesät und hochgezogen und auch mal eine Hälfte ins Freiland ausgepflanzt. Am nächsten Morgen habe ich nicht ein Pflänzchen wieder gefunden. Die Schnecken hatten sie sich schmecken lassen mit Stiel, Blatt und Wurzel. Naja! Die verbliebenen Pflanzen habe ich in Töpfen und in meinen Hochbeeten ausgepflanzt und in diesem Hitzesommer durch tägliches Gießen (die Töpfe auch zweimal am Tag) geschafft, dass sie sich prächtig entwickeln. Wenn ich eine Collage aus den Fotos mache, sieht es fast wie ein Sonnenblumenfeld aus ;)
I wanted a sunflower field but that's not what happened. I have planted my seeds and nurtured them and planted one half into fields. The next morning, I did not find a single plant again. Snails ate them with stalk, leaf and root. Well! I planted the remaining plants in pots and in my raised beds and managed in the heat of this summer by daily watering (the pots twice a day) that they develop perfectly. I made a collage of the pictures and it almost looks like a sunflower field ;)

Beachdress - Maxikleid
oder wie mein Mädel es nennt: das Sommer-Prinzessinnenkleid
or like my girlie calls it: the Summer Princessdress
Mir gefallen die Maxikleider so gut, nur leider sind die nichts für meine Figur, also bekam Lili eins verpasst. Es sollte ganz lang sein, denn bei dem anderen Prinzessinnenkleid (schon 5 Jahre alt und passt gerade noch) konnte man ihre Füße sehen (obwohl schon verlängert) und das geht gar nicht.

Recycling Project Bookmarks - Lesezeichen
Dieses Projekt beschäftigt uns nun schon seit vielen Tagen, weil
uns nämlich immer wieder Sachen in die Hände fallen, aus denen man
Lesezeichen machen kann.
Kürzlich als es so heiß war, zu heiß für mich, um irgendwas zu tun außer im Pool planschen und im Schatten liegen ... Äh, ja da habe ich meinen Stoß Zeitschriften durchgesehen und beschlossen, etwas aus den schön gemusterten Seiten, Sprüchen und Fotos zu machen. Lesezeichen brauchten wir ja schon länger. Ich weiß ja nicht wie es bei euch ist, aber ich lese meistens einige Bücher gleichzeitig. Sobald ein Buch eine Länge hat, kommt ein Lesezeichen rein und das nächste wird angefangen, aber ich komme immer wieder darauf zurück. Bei mir wird alles ausgelesen, auf Biegen und Brechen. Auf diese Weise habe ich mal jahrelang an einem Buch gelesen (war ein französischer Klassiker, nix modernes oder spannendes). Ich könnte euch davor warnen, aber lassen wir das. Also wir brauchen viele Lesezeichen.
This project already occupied us for many days, because we always find things again from which you can make bookmarks. Recently as it was so hot, too hot for me to do anything except swim in the pool and lie in the shade ... Uh, yeah I looked through old magazines and decided to do something with the beautifully patterned pages and quotes and pictures. We are in need of bookmarks. I don't know how you do it but I usually read several books at the same time. Once a book has a boring passage, I put in a bookmark and start to read the next one but I always come back to it. I always finish any book I began to read. This way once took me years to finish a book (it was a french classics, nothing modern or exciting). I might warn you, but never mind that. So we need a lot of bookmarks.

Vienna Children's University - Kinderuni Wien
Wir stellen die Uni auf den Kopf
We’ll turn university upside down
Dieses Jahr besuchte meine Tochter (9) erstmals die Kinderuni in Wien (gab es auch in den anderen Bundesländern). Diese fand nun schon zum 13. Mal statt. Die Buben meiner Freundin waren schon dreimal dort und dieses Jahr schaute sich meine Kleine das auch an. Und weil wir so beeindruckt und begeistert waren, erzähle ich mal darüber. Soviel ich weiß findet die Kinderuni europaweit in den Sommerferien statt und ist gratis. Kindern von 7-12 Jahren wird die Möglichkeit geboten, den universitären Betrieb kennen zu lernen. Eigens für Kinder und ihr Alter entwickelte Vorlesungen, Seminare und Workshops werden in den Universitätsgebäuden angeboten und von den echten Professoren abgehalten. Im Studienbuch (Vorlesungsverzeichnis) wählt man aus Hunderten Kursen aus folgenden Bereichen: Wissenschaft, Medizin, Technik, Bodenkultur, Veterinärmedizin, FH Campus und Wirtschaft. Meine Tochter entschied sich für folgende zwei Kurse (man darf höchsten 10 Kurse belegen).

My daughter joined this year the Children's University for the first time and we were so impressed and thrilled about. So this is it about: (Text from HERE) During the summer project »Vienna Children’s University«, which has been organised and coordinated since 2003, the gates of the university are open to 4.000 children between the ages 7 and 12 for two weeks. Initially, Vienna Children’s University was held only at the University of Vienna, but in the meantime, the Medical University of Vienna, the Vienna University of Technology, the University of Natural Resources and Applied Sciences Vienna and the University of Veterinary Medicine Vienna and Vienna University of Economics and Business have joined in.

Heat Wave - Hitzewelle
Wegen Hitze geschlossen! Seit etwa drei Wochen haben wir Sommer pur. Temperaturen bis zu 38°C. Ich mach Pause bis 25°C oder bis Lust zum Bloggen wieder kommt. Bis bald.

Holidays - Ferien
Ferien sind klasse! Und wir sind voll im Ferienmodus, vom ersten Tag an. Wahrscheinlich weil das Wetter voll mitspielt. So stellt man sich Sommer vor.
Mein Mann hat mir von einem Sonnenblumenfeld eine Blume mitgebracht. Süß! Sie ist salatschüsselgroß und wunderschön.
Holidays are great! And we are fully in holiday mode, from day one on. Probably because the weather cooperates fantastically. Summer should be that way.
My husband picked a sunflower for me from a sunflower field on the road. Sweet! It is huge and as large as a salad bowl.

Lili's Holiday Books - Lilis Lesesommer

Hach, was freue ich mich! Meine Tochter Lili (9) hat endlich das Lesen für sich entdeckt. Gelesen wurde bei uns schon immer, vorm Schlafen im Bett als Abendritual und sie liebt das auch. Zuerst wurde vorgelesen als sie es noch nicht konnte und später immer abwechselnd eine Seite sie, eine Seite wir. Und seit das Lesen immer besser geht, liest sie alleine. Aber immer nur 1-2 Seiten abends im Bett vorm Schlafen. Was habe ich sie auch tagsüber dazu angehalten, immer wenn ein "Mir ist fad" von ihr kam. "Dann lies ein Buch!". Bis vor kurzem kam immer ein "Nein". Und ganz plötzlich tönte aus dem Kinderzimmer: "Ich hab ein Buch ausgelesen". Na ich hab Bauklötze gestaunt. Daher habe ich ihr für den Sommer (9 Wochen !!! Ferien in Österreich) Bücher besorgt, sowohl im Buchhandel, als auch ein paar alte Schätze von mir (Der kleine Prinz und Fliegender Stern) und vom Flohmarkt. Wie man sieht, hat sie schon begonnen. Ich hoffe ich kann sie noch dazu überreden, die Bücher zu bewerten, dann gibt's auch noch eine authentische Rezension vom Zielpublikum.

Oh, I'm so happy! My daughter Lili (9) has finally discovered reading for herself. We always have been reading in bed as evening ritual before sleeping and she loves it. First, reading aloud when she could not and later alternately she was reading one page, and we read one other. And since she knows reading she reads alone. But only 1 or 2 pages in bed before goodnight. I encouraged her to read all day almost every day and always when I heard "I'm bored". "Then read a book!". Until recently, I was getting a "No". And all of a sudden she came out of the nursery and said: "I read a book." Well I flabbergasted. Therefore, I have get her books for the summer (9 weeks !!! school holiday in Austria), both in bookstores as well as some old treasures from me and from the flea market. As you can see, she has already begun. I hope I can persuade her to evaluate the books, then there's even an authentic review of the target audience.

Softtoy Pony - Kuschelpferd Lilly
Für mein Patenmädel habe ich ein Kuschelpferdchen (Lilly von Nadelfee) zum Geburtstag genäht. Momentan befinden sich die Mädchen (9 und 10 Jahre) am Höhepunkt der Pferdeverliebtheit (oder wie lange dauert das noch?). Ich habe aber auch die Rückseite als Pferdchen genäht (und nicht wie in der Vorlage als Kissenrückseite). Eine Seite ist ein Stuten-Mädchen und die andere Seite ein Hengst-Junge. Und natürlich muss ich jetzt für meine Tochter auch eins nähen, aber das war sowieso geplant und habe ich auch gleich mit zugeschnitten. In der Satteltasche hatte dann auch noch schön ein Gutschein Platz. Ich finde das Pferdchen total süß!

I have sewed the back side as a horse too (and not as in the template as a pillow back). One side is a mare girl and the other side a stallion boy. And of course I have to sew one for my daughter too but that was planned anyway. The saddlebag was a nice place for a voucher. This little pony pillow is so cute!

Crafting - Basteln
Heute zeige ich die letzten beiden Basteleien meiner Tochter (9) im Rahmen des schulischen Werkunterrichtes der 3. Klasse. Ich bin total begeistert. Die Werklehrerin Frau Wöhrer ist super, die Ideen sind einfallsreich und die Ergebnisse sind schön und überzeugen. Die Lehrerin ist auch noch für das Freifach 'Kochen' zuständig, das meine Tochter dieses Jahr auch belegt hat und auch hier ist es toll, was die Schüler gelernt haben. Und vor allem haben sie Spaß dabei.
Today I will share with you two crafting projects of my daughter (9) as part of the woodwork class in 3rd grade. I am absolutely delighted. The handicraft teacher Mrs. Wöhrer is great, the ideas are imaginative and the results are beautiful and convincing. The teacher is also responsible for the optional course 'cooking', which my daughter has attended this year too, and even here it's great what the pupils have learned. Above all, they have fun doing it.
Ist das nicht entzückend! Das Häuschen ist zwar vorgedruckt, aber jedes Kind hat seinen Garten anders gestaltet. Lili hat einen Rosenbogen gemacht und einen kleinen Teich mit Handtuch und Sonnenschirm und einer Bank unterm Kirschbaum. Bin total verliebt!

Roses in June - Rosenmonat Juni
Das ist unser erster und prächtigster Rosenbusch im Garten und auch die einzige Rose, deren Namen ich nicht weiß. Gekauft wurzelnackt und mickrig im Baumarkt für 1,50 Euro vor 13 Jahren. Nie hätten wir gedacht, dass sie sich so entwickeln wird. Innerhalb von einigen Tagen springen hunderte Blüten auf. Der Duft ist unglaublich intensiv und betörend. Ich dünge sie nicht und spritze gegen nichts, denn sie ist unglaublich robust. Vielleicht dankt sie uns, weil wir sie vor einem Ende auf dem Kompost gerettet haben. Und wir bewundern sie und erfreuen uns auch jedes Jahr an der Pracht der Rose. Hier gilt wirklich das Sprichwort: Beurteile nie ein Buch nach seinem Umschlag.

We never would have thought that it will evolve that way. Hundreds of blossoms flourishes in a few days. The scent is incredibly intense and beguiling. I do not fertilizing or spraying against anything, because it's incredibly robust and hardy. Perhaps the rose would like to thank us because we have saved her from a fate at the compost pile. And we admire and rejoice over her every year at the flowery splendor of the rose. Here really applies the saying: Never judge a book by its cover.

Socks With Ruffles - Socken mit Rüschen
Die Socken sind nun auch fertig und sie gefallen mir sehr gut. Alle Details dazu kann man sich auf meiner Ravelry Seite ansehen. Ansonsten muss ich sagen, dass mir das Stricken von der Spitze weg sehr gut gefällt und diese Art die Ferse (Link zu YouTube Video von eliZZZa) zu stricken die einfachste ist, die ich kenne. Auch bin ich der Empfehlung einer Leserin gefolgt und habe den 100 g Knäuel geteilt und jeweils 50 g abgewogen. Hat super geklappt. Mir sind etwa 1 m Faden übrig geblieben. Ich denke, da werde ich gleich noch ein paar Socken nachschießen, weil's mir so gefallen hat.

Otherwise, I have to say that I like knitting toe-up and this way of knitting the heel is the most simple, I know. Also I followed the recommendation of a reader and have split the ball into two and controlled the weight with a scale. Worked out great. There is only about 1m/1yd thread left. I think I'm going to knit right away another pair of socks that way because I really enjoyed it.

Toe-Up Socks - Socken von der Spitze stricken
Ich stricke seit Jahrzehnten Socken mit Nadelspiel, also kann man sagen, dass ich das wirklich gut kann. Aber das hier war vielleicht eine schwere Geburt. Man soll sich ja selber immer Herausforderungen stellen. Ich dachte mir, dass ich mal Socken von der Spitze weg stricke. Und vielleicht mit Rundstricknadeln gleich zwei Socken gleichzeitig. Ich habe mir dazu auf YouTube alle Videos dazu angesehen und wirklich alle Methoden ausprobiert und habe folgendes festgestellt: Judy's Magic Cast-on (Link zu YouTube Video) hat für mich am besten funktioniert, auch wenn ich nicht glaube, dass ich das jemals auswendig können werde. Und die Rundstricknadeln habe ich gleich mal wieder weg geschmissen. In der Zeit, wo ich die Maschen auf der Rundstricknadel hin und her schiebe und Faden wechsle und Wolle auseinanderzwirble, habe ich schon wieder einige Nadeln des Nadelspiels gestrickt. Die nächste Herausforderung wird die Bumerangferse werden. Ich kenne nur die herkömmliche Stegferse. Dazu ist mir gerade dieses Video von eliZZZa (Link zu YouTube) ins Auge gesprungen. Das sieht ja super einfach aus.
Dennoch reizt mich die Idee, Socken gleichzeitig zu stricken, einfach um die vorhandene Wolle besser aufzuteilen und man hat weniger Restwolle. Da muss ich nochmal knobeln, wie ich das trotzdem hinkriege. Ich werde weiter berichten.
I knit socks for decades with DPNs (Double Pointed Needles), so one can say that I know really good how to knit socks. One should always face challenges. I thought that I should learn knitting socks toe-up. And maybe with circular needles two socks at the same time. Well, that took some doing. I watched all YouTube videos and really tried all methods and have found that: Judy's Magic Cast-on has worked for me best and I've thrown away the circular needles. In the time span when I push the stitches on the circular needle back and forth and change the wool thread and disentangle the wool balls, I have already knit a few needles of the DPNs.
The next challenge will be another way to knit the heel. I only know the conventional heel. I saw THIS video by eliZZZa and it looks super easy.
Nevertheless the idea of knitting socks at the same time is tempting, because one can divide the existing wool balls better and you have less leftover yarn. I have to think over how to solve this. I will continue to report.

Grimmenstein Castle
Gestern war es wider Erwarten schön und wir wollten ein bisschen spazieren gehen. Wir schauten im Internet was es so in unserer Gegend zum Anschauen gibt und entschieden uns für den 30-minütigen Wanderweg zur Burg Grimmenstein. Die Fotos sahen so cool aus, dass wir die Burg unbedingt besuchen wollten. Der Weg war zwar etwas steil, aber Burgen liegen meistens oben am Berg. Ein wunderschöner Mischwald mit Feldern von Maiglöckchen säumten den Naturlehrpfad zur Burg. Leider wird die Burg (im Privatbesitz) gerade restauriert und war daher nicht zu besichtigen.

Although the road was a bit steep, but castles are mostly on top of the mountain. A beautiful mixed forest with fields of lilies of the valley lined the nature trail to the castle. Unfortunately, the castle is being restored (private property) and was therefore not open to visitors.

Shawl Sunset

The Bird has Bats in the Belfry - Der Vogel hat einen Vogel
Auf unserer Terrasse hängen 3 Vogelhäuser zur Deko. Vor einigen Jahren bekam ich ein tolles Vogelhotel aus Holz. Als wir an einem schönen Morgen auf der Terrasse quasi direkt neben dem Vogelhaus frühstückten, fiel uns auf, dass zwei Kohlmeisen das Vogelhaus besichtigten. Wir scherzten noch: "Die werden doch nicht ...". Wie man sieht, hängt es nicht mal 1 Meter über dem Boden. Hinter den braunen Türen ist das Holzlager, aber direkt davor stehen die Gartenmöbel und die Fahrräder und die Eingänge zur Werkstatt und zum Gartenklo (ja, wir haben sowas) sind auch gleich nebenan.

When we had breakfast on a beautiful morning on the terrace almost next door to the birdhouses, we noticed that two great tits visited the purple wooden birhouse. We joked yet: "But they will not ...". As you can see, it hangs just about 1 meter above the ground. Behind the brown doors is the timber-yard, but right in front are the garden furniture and bicycles, and the entrances to the workshop and the garden bathroom (yes, we have something like that) are also next door.

Getaway to the Slovenian Coast - Kurztrip an die slowenische Küste
Ja, genau. Slowenien hat eine Küste. Zwar nur kurz, aber dafür bezaubernd. 4 Tage haben wir dort verbracht. Es war kälter als erwartet und als es normalerweise ist, aber wo in Europa war's am 1. Mai in diesem Jahr schon warm. Aber dafür hat es nicht geregnet, das ist doch schon was. Wir waren das erste Mal in dieser Gegend und es hat uns wahnsinnig gut gefallen. Da werden wir bestimmt nochmal zum Baden herkommen. Izola liegt nur ein paar Kilometer südlich des italienischen Triest in einer schönen Bucht mit einer kleinen Marina.

Pencil Case Roll - Stifterolle
Mein Mädel hat doch tatsächlich dem Osterhasen einen Brief geschrieben und da stand drin, dass sie sich eine Stifterolle wünscht. Sie wollte wohl auf Nummer sicher gehen und hat sich die Unterstützung des Osterhasen gesichert. Nun muss man wissen, dass ich Stifterollen nicht mag, weil sie so einseitig sind. Man kann nur Stifte reinstecken. Kein Vergleich zu Täschchen, die so multifunktional sind und man außer Stifte absolut alles reinstecken kann. Aber bitte. Alle 20 Fineliner Stifte sollen da reinpassen. Das Ding ist riesig, aber wenigstens hat sie sich den rosa Stoff ausgesucht, den ich eh verbrauchen muss, bevor rosa total out bei ihr ist. Ihr wisst ja: Wenn die Prinzessin glücklich ist, herrscht Frieden im Königreich.

In The Garden
Waren die letzten Tage nicht traumhaft schön? Wir haben einen sehr großen Garten und schon mal ein bisschen begonnen, dort und da zu zupfen und zu schneiden. Die Magnolie ist leider am Verblühen, ihre Schönheit verzaubert mich jedes Jahr.

New Knitting Project
Ich habe ein neues Tuch begonnen. Erkennen kann man noch nicht viel, außer dass ich viel mehr Maschenmarkierer brauche. Ohrringe und Vorhanghaken sind wirklich nur eine Notlösung ;) Details zu meinen Strick- und Häkelwerken kann man auf meiner Ravelry Seite nachlesen.

Phone Cover - Handyhülle
Meine gehäkelten Mini-Granny-Squares habe ich als Verzierung für
eine Handyhülle genutzt. Mein Smartphone sollte nicht so ohne Mäntelchen in der Tasche
herum kullern. Die Hülle ist mehr als simpel genäht, erfüllt aber seinen
Zweck optimal und sie gefällt mir total gut. Eine alte Jeans hat
auch hier wieder ein 2. Leben gefunden, also ein halbes Hosenbein
jedenfalls. Innen wattiert mit Volumenvlies und einem Reststück rosa
Stoff. Ich mag es :)
I used my crocheted mini granny squares as decoration for a phone case. My smartphone should not roll around without cover in my bag. The cover is sewn more than simple, but does the job perfectly and I totally like it. An old jeans has found again a second life, half a leg at least. Inside padded with wadding and a scrap piece pink fabric. I love it :)

Tidy Up My Desktop - Desktop aufräumen
Die Fotos liegen schon seit zwei Wochen auf meinem Desktop, jetzt poste ich sie und dann kann ich sie wegräumen. Alle Dinge, die ich erledigen muss, lade ich auf meinem PC Desktop ab. Wenn ich das Hintergrundbild nicht mehr richtig erkennen kann (was mich ärgert), dann wird's Zeit etwas abzuarbeiten.
Da wär mal dieses wunderschöne Schneeglöckchen, das direkt vor meinem Küchenfenster ganz einsam und alleine im Rasen wächst. Und der Hund hat es auch noch nicht zertrampelt. Ich habe Büschel von Schneeglöckchen in den Beeten und ganze Felder auf der Obstbaumwiese. Aber direkt am Haus gibt es eben Rasen und da wächst normalerweise außer Gras nichts. Daher voilà!

There is this picture of a beautiful snowdrop, which is growing very lonely in the lawn just outside my kitchen window. And the dog has not been stepped on it yet. I have bunches of snowdrops in flower beds and fields on the orchard. But at the house there is just lawn and there is growing normally nothing except grass. Therefore, voila!

A New Nightgown For Me - Ein neues Nachthemd für mich
Meine zwei Lieben zu Hause beschwerten sich seit ewig (echt ewig!)
über die alten löchrigen Fetzen, die ich als Nachthemden benutze.
Kein schöner Anblick beim Frühstück. Aber in der Nacht ist es
dunkel und Bequemlichkeit geht bei mir vor. Nachdem das Murren aber
immer lauter wurde, habe ich mir in einer Hauruck-Aktion ein neues
Nachthemd genäht und den ältesten Fetzen damit ersetzt. Den Jersey
habe ich seit Jahren herum liegen, witzigerweise genau für den Zweck
mir daraus ein Nachtkleidchen zu nähen. Nur Lust hatte ich nie, weil
meine alten halt so kuschelig waren. Gekaufte Nachthemden sind nie
so, wie ich sie haben will.
Die Hauruck-Aktion bestand darin, dass ich mein altes Nachthemd auf den Stoff legte und rund herum schnitt. Daher ist es auch etwas weit, stört mich aber nicht. Ich habe nicht mal die Farben der Nähseide in der Ovi gewechselt, passten zum Glück auch in etwa. Nun trage ich es seit einigen Nächten und es ist sooo bequem. Es ist fast bodenlang, am Hals nicht zu eng und vor allem mag ich lange Ärmel, wo man die Hände verstecken kann. Sitzt, passt, hat Luft. Perfekt! *freu*. Und auch meine zwei sind erfreut. Der Stoff war damals so billig, dass ich viiiel davon kaufte. Für das Mäderl wird darum auch noch was abfallen. Vielleicht auch ein Nachthemd. Partnerlook, hehe :)
My two dears at home complaining since forever (really forever!) about the old holey scraps that I use as nightgowns. Not a pretty sight at breakfast. But at night it's dark and I prefer comfort. But the grumbling grew louder, so I have sewn a new nightgown in no time at all and replaces the oldest nightdress. The knit-fabric was lying around for years, funnily exactly for the purpose to sew a new nightgown for me. Only I didn't want to because my old ones were just so cuddly. Purchased nightgowns are never the way I want them, they are all too short.
So my heave-ho method was that I put my old nightgown on the fabric and cut around it. Therefore, it is a bit wide but that doesn't bother me. I did not even change the colors of thread in my serger, they fit fortunately, approximately. Now I wear it for a few nights and it is sooo comfortable. It's almost floor-length, not too tight around the neck and above all I like long sleeves, where you can hide your hands. Perfect! *bliss*. And my two dears are pleased too. The fabric was so cheap that I bought alot of it. Therefore there is enough for a shirt or so for my girlie. Perhaps a nightgown too. Matching outfits, hehe :)

Pine Cones - Kiefernzapfen
Von unserem letzten Waldspaziergang brachten wir Zapfen mit nach Hause. Es sind Kiefernzapfen oder wie wir hier sagen Föhren. Hier, wo ich lebe, also südlich von Wien ließ Kaiserin Maria Theresia ausgedehnte Föhrenwälder anlegen, um die Versteppung der Landschaft zu verhindern.
Der linke Zapfen ist schon etwas getrocknet und die Samenschuppen haben sich bereits geöffnet. Der rechte Zapfen ist noch frisch und feucht. Ich dachte zuerst wir hätten verschiedene Sorten aufgesammelt, als ich heute den Sack ausleerte. Tja, man lernt nie aus. Schönen Sonntag!
From our last walk in the woods we brought home some cones. They are cones from pine trees. Empress Maria Theresa had created extensive pine forests south of Vienna to prevent desertification of the landscape. This is where I live.
The left pin is already a bit dried and the seed scales have already opened. The right pin is still fresh and moist. First I thought we would have picked different varieties, as I emptied the bag today. Well, you live and learn. Have a beautiful Sunday!

Playing With Numbers - Spielen mit Zahlen

Heute stelle ich euch das Kartenspiel Skip-Bo vor. Meine Tochter tut sich schwer mit Mathe und ich zeige hier immer wieder mal Zahlenspiele, die sie bei diesem Problem spielerisch unterstützen sollen. Die Spiele haben wir teilweise seit Jahren und sind ausführlich getestet und machen auch uns Eltern Spaß.
Skip-Bo können Kinder spielen, sobald sie die Zahlen in der richtigen Reihenfolge von 1 bis 12 beherrschen und 5 Karten in den Händen halten können. Denn man muss nichts anderes machen, als seinen Zahlenstapel in der richtigen Reihenfolge auf die Ablagestapel zu legen. Klingt einfach und ist doch raffiniert und vor allem sehr unterhaltsam.
Today I present to you the card game Skip-Bo. My daughter is struggling with math and I show here occasionally some games based on numbers to support her playful with this problem. The games we have for years in some cases and have been extensively tested and are also fun for us parents.
Skip-Bo can be played by kids as soon as they can count to 12 in the correct order and can hold 5 cards in the hands. Because you have to do nothing else than playing your stockpile of cards in the correct order to the piles which are to build in the center. Sounds simple and yet clever and above all very entertaining.
